I dunno.  I think Microsoft has forced their games to big large sizes by forcing the games to all be HD compatible.  I don't care about that at all.  I think 32GB but preferably 64 GB with any options to upgrade AND play the games off that upgraded medium is fine.  I do think Nintendo will need to allow downloaded content to be larger.  Perhaps 150 Megs would be fine and don't force developers to do HD graphics for everything.

I bought a 1TB drive, upgraded to a 15-22Mb/sec cable line, and filled up my drive in like 2 days.

If you do not mind me asking, but what could possibly take up that much space?

Nintendo could have the internal HDD bay built into the Wii 2, even if that drive bay is left empty by default. That way users could drop in an HDD of their choice whenever they wanted. As the manufacturing costs of the console go down over time, Nintendo could later bundle in an HDD by default if they so desired. But at least the option should be there from the beginning, because not everyone wants to mess with external hdds dangling around and taking up space.

I have been saying this all along. I would love to be able to drop in any HDD I see fit into my Wii2 and store anything I want and play it on my console. This way Nintendo could not have to bother with manufacutring their own HDD and they help the consumer gain a fairly big storage device and they do not have to hear about storage solutions. Nintendo could also partner with a HDD production compant to bundle their technology with Nintendo's. This way they can make money when the Wii 2 is sold.

They would *never* manufacture their own HDDs. That would require an incredible amount of time and money. Microsoft doesn't make the hard drives in the 360, Sony doesn't make the drives in the PS3. There aren't many companies that actually produce hard drives, the only ones I can think of off the top of my head are Western Digital, Seagate, Samsung, Toshiba, Maxtor, Fujitsu, Hitachi and IBM (though I don't think they make them anymore, if they even ever did).

Actually a quick Google search says I pretty much nailed all of them.

My goodness, what are you people doing with your computers that you need 1TB of space? Wait, I probably don't want to know...

Bootleg GBA games used batteries.... does that count?
It might. It depends on if the statement was more general or if it meant actual commercial products. As far as I know, the Nintendo 64 is the last retail system to use battery-backed saving, and even that was for only twelve games.

IBM to use Cell in next Nintendo System!!?

IBM is working with gaming machine vendors including Nintendo and Sony, said Jai Menon, CTO of IBM's Systems and Technology Group, during an interview Thursday. "We want to stay in the business, we intend to stay in the business," he said.

"I think you'll see [Cell] integrated into our future Power road map. That's the way to think about it as opposed to a separate line -- it'll just get integrated into the next line of things that we do," Menon said. "But certainly, we're working with all of the game folks to provide our capabilities into those next-generation machines."

"The kinds of things you used to be able to do with the Cell you can do in ... [the] Power line," Menon said

No mention of MS though....

Hah, it would be great if Nintendo's next console was called the Nintendo "Power". They could literally bring back the old catch-phrase, "Now you're playing with power!"

Sure sure.. the magazine is titled that. But I'd love to see the next console called that, too. :)

Wouldn't this cause a problem with the backwards compatibility with the Wii/GC? I say that because the Cell processor is quite a bit different technology than the Broadway processor the Wii uses. However, the Cell processor is far more powerful so Nintendo could include software emulation to enable backwards compatibility, which is what the 360 does. The problem with that though is compatibility isn't ever going to be 100% so some games just won't work. Another possibility is Nintendo could bundle in an additional Broadway processor to Wii/GC compatibility, which is what Sony did with their early models of PS3s. But the problem there is it adds to the console's production cost, and everything we know about Nintendo suggests this is a bit unlikely.

But the good news if this is true is it means the next Wii console will be at least on par with the competition, if not even a fair bit more powerful. Using a Cell processor may also make it much easier for the competition to port games over to this system, because that's the same processor the other systems are using. So it should make the porting process simpler, right?

AWESOME!!!.  If this means that Nintendo are finally washing their hands of this "blue ocean" nonsense for their next console, that I wouldn't care at all if B/C was left out.  I still have my Wii, millions of others have one (or more) and it doesn't take up much room.

With the recent turn of events from Nintendo, it looks like my wish has a chance of being a reality.  Come on Nintendo, show us something with some real grunt, with a normal controller.

Well, sinc e the Broadway/Gekko is a PowerPC architecture and the cell tech is being integrated into that PowerPC architecture, I don't think BC will be affected at all as long as the cell integrated Power line is still the Power line. If anything, it would mean that the PS4 will theoretically be capable of emulating a GC & Wii processor as well as being PS3 BC, while the Wii2 will theoretically be able to do things the PS3 is doing while also being Wii/GC BC, possibly even having compatible code with PS3.

This would definitely leave Xbox720 as the odd man out next gen with their difference architecture and Kinect technology.

Basically Microsoft takes Nintendo's place as the on man out, right? Also, there are going to be lots of ports from third parties to the Wii 2 if this chip does happen to appear in Nintendo's next console(Resident Evil 5), which is okay by me as long as they are priced as budget titles.

If Nintendo could get the unreal engine on the Wii 2 then third party support would be a given.
