I suppose so, but first of all, FE isn't the only game which will be saving information to the flash card and second, I don't mean standard games where saves happen infrequently. I mean games where changes to the stored data are being made constantly, like every second.

I admit, I can't provide an example beyond a real-time saving Animal Crossing, but that would be the best example, where you no longer need to worry about the game stopping to save every time someone enters or exits your town or about losing all your data if the power goes out. Live saving is the only way to do that and such frequent saving could reach the limit on your flash storage, especially if your town is frequently visited by others.

Actually I think that if you use the flash like they are using it know it should last the life of the product.  Now if you use the Flash as a temporary cache for something like say streaming video that requires a lot of rapid writes and you do this regularly the lifetime could be easily halfed.

I agree that it probably won't be an issue with any games we have now.

However, that doesn't take future games into account and that flash memory is more expensive than HDD storage.

The read times on USB 2.0 (which the Wii has) are pretty damn fast. You could load things in and out very quickly without much issue.

If you play FE fast enough (and turn off battle animations) the game will save every second.  It auto saves after every turn you (or the CPU) take.

In that case, it could happen...if you played it that many times, but I don't think it's a huge concern.

Like I said, the pertinent reasons for HDD over flash are cost and space. The erase limitation does exist, but I don't think it could be an issue unless Nintendo does release an AC with real-time saving.

According to G4tv, there may be a reason why Nintendo has not released Duck Hunt and Hogans Alley yet on the VC. The Gun attachment for the Wiimote labeled "Zapper" was listed as a work inprogress back at E3 and may be released sooner than you think.

They also mentioned that it was rumored that the Resident Evil 4 Wiimake and/or RE: Umbrella Chronicles may be the first Wii games to make use of this peripheral.

That would make for some interesting gameplay for RE:UC but I'm not so sure about using the Zapper in RE4 Wiimake. Motion sensing controlling Leon's arm, and therefore his aim, should already adds enough to the gameplay w/o adding Zapper support.

I'd say it's extremely possible that it will be used in Umbrella Chronicles, as the way the game is described makes sense with the placement of things like the analog stick.

RE:Wiimake I don't think so though, based on this page...

http://www.capcom.co.jp/wii_bio4/operation/index.html

Also, I still don't understand how this is going to work with Duck Hunt and Hogan's Alley... are they going to change the code and put a cross hairs on it?  I still don't buy it.

Well they showed a photo of the zapper case and just below it it said

Zapper Style
"work in progress"

But I'm also curious how they are gona make it work. How did the old school NES zapper work?
Didn't it have a camera that would locate the white flash on the screen and thats how it determined if you made your shot or not? Maybe the peripheral has software embedded that changes the way the camera would work.

That's an interesting thought BnM, but then it wouldn't be using the Wii remote's normal pointer function...

Hmm.  Of all the arguments I've heard for how it's going to work (that are usually "THE WII POINTER CAN DO IT DUH!") that holds up the most as possible.  Hmm. Hmm. Hmm indeed.

More likely the emulator would overlay the crosshair.  Program the emulator to interpret the Wii pointer like any other game that uses it, and draw the crosshair on the screen after rendering the game itself.  When you fire, the emulator would convert the crosshair's position into the format the game expects and knows how to interpret before feeding it the data.

Why couldn't it do both? The Eyetoy 2 is supposed to be able to track multiple tagets, so maybe the little "upgrade" that the Zapper may add allows it to track the sensor bar and the flash on the screen at the same time.

But if your playing the NES, SNES, or any games that weren't made specifically for the Wii, you wouldn't need the pointer at that time anyway.

wow, that actually looks pretty good, but might be a little fragile when the Wiimote and nunchuck aren't attached.

I'm guessing that you will calibrate your aim before playing, just like any other modern lightgun game, and once you do, you can't change your seating position or it will mess up your aim again.

This should be easy for the Wiimote, as the mote will send the calculation data at the time of trigger press as to where the actual cursor is (which the player won't see during the calibration) as opposed to where the player sees the aim.

HOTD2 had you fire three calibration shots and basically worked fine after that. The Resident Wiivil will probably have you do the same thing: one in the upper left corner, one in lower right and one center. That gives the game a complete understanding of how large your TV is and where the player is aiming on the X and Y axes (yes, that is the plural of "axis". I looked it up). Once you take three shots, the game can take the three offset values (how far from the on-screen target the cursor was when the player pulled the trigger) to calculate where the player is aiming on the screen at the time, no "flashes" required.

You can kinda use the Wiimote as a lightgun if you sight along the d-pad, but it'll take some getting used to before I adjust to where the gun is aiming since I'm so used to the pointer not actually pointing to the cursor on screen at all.

Is Assassins Creed coming to DS & Wii?

Well according to Kotaku, Gamestop & Gamefly have the DS version listed for a September '07 release and are offering pre-order/rental options, but according to NeoGAF there was a leaked list that also had it listed for the Wii.

I haven't seen this list yet, but as soon as I find it, it will be posted here.

edit: I just saw the leaked list, which is also from Kotaku, but the only problem is that the list was from over a year ago. I wonder how much weight it actually holds.
So for the meantime take this as non-confirmation of Assassins Creed for DS until a more credible rumor pops up supporting the Wii version. Thats what I get for jumping the gun.....

update: Apparently the leaked list(provided by Kotaku above) has been very accurate so far, as many of the games on the list have already been released. Does this add credibility to AC coming to Wii? Maybe, but as with every other game on the list, we'll just have to wait and see.

From game tester land, or, a little birdie told me:

A new FPS from Free Radical is supposedly making waves through the grapevine of the game tester underground.  As you know, EA published Timesplitters:FP (I was testing Madden while that game was being tested in the lan area of the building) So knowing there's still a few friendly connections staff-wise, I am inclined to believe at least some of this.   Apparently Free Radical now have a deal with Ubisoft and they have an exclusive Wii FPS in the alpha stages.  The excitement going around about this top secret game is magnified because some think it's actually Timesplitters 4.

Why is Nascar 08 being held back from the Wii?  I don't know...it was underway with online component and everything.  Perhaps it's scrapped until next year, or perhaps Nintendo doesn't want devs to announce any online enabled games yet?  Either way, I'm surprised.

A famous Capcom classic getting the Wii treatment?  An interesting tidbit out of sunny Capcom HQ, via email. "On **, the primary thinking was to follow the Metroid Prime transition from 2d to 3d, with perhaps some 3rd person spliced in.  It was a quick discussion but intriguing anyway.  Of course **** (name) wasn't supposed to squawk, but yeah, there it is.  But this type of talk is frequent with top brass, and a lot of times nothing comes of it.  But some times...."  Take this one lightly, but it sure sounded like a great idea.

That leaked list was months ago before the Wii was released, then promptly removed.  All the games on the list have come out, or have been announced.  So maybe it is coming out.
