New Rumor:

Gamefly has listed that a new Guilty Gears game is headed for the Wii.  This is great news since the Gamecube lacked fighting games and fighting games in general seem to slowing down.  Specially 2D games.

Originally found this story at GoNintendo.com and apparently Gamefly has been pretty accurate about there game posts for the Wii coming true.

I was gonna post this same thing, but I also heard that Game-Crazy originally had this title listed for Wii way back in Oct. '06 and Aksys had formally denied any such rumor in their forums saying "any new game announcements will be listed on our website."

That doesn't sounds like a denial to me. It sounds more like a "no comment".

I'm not a big fighting game fan outside of Smash Bros. I have seen the video of Mortal Kombat Wii though and I have to admit that I'm more than slightly intrigued by the Wiimote controls. I won't be buying the game myself but if someone I know gets it I'd be more than willing to give it a shot.

Me actually interested in a fighting game? The Wii really is magical.

Damn I hope this turns out to be true.  I loved playing the older ones and it'd be great to finally be able to buy one.

Actually this shouldn't come as any real surprise though since the Wii is pretty much going to be the home for 2d fighters.  2d fighters only sell to a small niche fanbase these days, and since the Xbox 360 and PS3 cost way to much to develope for, the Wii is the only system companies can make money off 2d fighters with.

Plus Sony and Microsoft probobly wont even allow 2d fighters on their systems since both companies are obsessed with showing off their realistic HD graphics.

I can die happy if the Wii becomes the home of 2d fighters. If the Wii gets 2d fighters in addition to more DDR love it will go down as my all time favorite console of all time.... Almost sounds too good to be true.

Then prepare to die because the Wii is the default console for all 2D fighters next gen. It's the only console which doesn't require that games run in 720p (minimum) and it leads the Japanese next-gen console market by 60% already. Most of the 2D-heavy hitters (if not all) are Japanese devs, like SNK who already brought Metal Slug Anthology over.

By rule of thumb, if your console is the "default" for any genre of game, it's a good thing. The PS2 was the default for 2D games last gen, even though Sony hated 2D games.

This is one of the reasons why I've very happy Nintendo will be getting all the 2d games this gen, we might start to see more progress in 2d games and maybe even a revival of some kind.

Under Sony's anti 2d policy, only the well known 2d series were allowed to be released in America, and even then companies had to jump through hopes just to get there games approved.  This is one of the reasons 2d gaming died on home consoles because companies weren't going to spend alot of money on making 2d games only to have Sony refuse to allow it's release.

But now with Nintendo, companies have nothing to worry about.  They're free to make as many 2d games as they'd like on the system and can actually release all of their games in North America.  And with them being able to release any game in North America, more companies might start spending the money again on going back into the 2d market since their games have a much better chance of selling now.

I'm curious to see what comes of it as well.

Nintendo never had the reputation of the "safe haven" until now. I wonder how the title will fit them...

Yep.  That is true if 2D fighter does come out on those systems it does make sense to sell them as Marketplace games.  Even on the Wii that makes some sense.  Personally it would have to be a pretty expansive 2D fighter for me to want to plop down full price for it in todays day and age.

Like the ones on PSOne but with every SF games since SF II.

I welcome any and all 2D games, personally.

Since I have Gamefly, I'm more than willing to give every game that comes out a fair shake, 2D or otherwise.

I personally don't care if the game is in 2D, 3D or even 4D. If the game is fun, addictive and engaging its good enough for me.

Hence why I am playing LTTP.

Followup to the Konami rumor:

Konami's 07 lineup

A 3D shooter called "Time Ace" and a pet sim called "GoPets" with online support so you can go online and meet other pet owners, both on the DS.

I guess this is all we're getting for the Wii for now, but in fairness, there wasn't all that much announced in general so four titles ain't bad.

It isn't official, and I didn't want to make a whole new thread on it, but EA is thinking about Fight Night on the Wii.. didn't Omen already comment on this?

Quote

GM: The Nintendo Wii just came out. Are you planning on doing a version for that system with its revolutionary controller system?

MB: We’re talking about it right now. We’re contemplating and we definitely feel there are some exciting things we can do with the Fight Night franchise and the Wii. When you play Wii Boxing it is a very simple experience and I think that is what they designed it to be just to let you know that you can throw punches. With Fight Night we have an amazing simulation of Boxing and so we need to take those Wii controls and tailor it to what the Fight Night consumer might want to experience. We are looking at it right now and I am sure you will something some time in the future on the Wii.

GM: That’s going to end up being a helluva workout.

MB: (laughing) Absolutely. That’s good. We want people to get a bit of workout. If you like playing sports games and are excited by sports it is a good way to give you the best of both worlds.

Did we miss this? Was is posted somewhere else on the site?

EA developing a rhythm based dancing game for Wii
Quote

Random Nintendo has learned that Electronic Arts is developing an exclusive rhythm game for the Wii. While information is still scare, we do know that the game will be an entirely new property.

The currently untitled Wii project is under development at EA's Montreal studio. The game, which reportedly has a 1970s vibe, will have players control dancers by moving both the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. While it may sound similar to Konami's Dance Dance Revolution: Hottest Mix, one of the main differences appears to be the lack of a dance pad for EA's game.

This game was also just referenced in latest 1up Yours podcast @ about 30minutes in.

Shane (1up/EGM) says in passing "well they already announced the microphone for the EA dancing game".

Yes sir I did.  They're trying for 1:1 motion...and that was months ago.  I think there are going to be 6 punches for each side, or something like that.  Unless they do end up with true 1:1.  The real impressive thing was that the wiimote was able to distinguish between a right cross punch and a right jab every single time.  So even early on there were no motions that were missed or not read.

But yeah, don't let them fool you.  The full slate of EA sports will be hitting the Wii.  The best title, believe it or not, might be Nascar, which is supposedly going to be online and work with the headset.  Your pit or whatever will be helping you out during the race through the headset.  There may also be two player co-op, online, or splitscreen through the career mode.

For the record, I don't work for EA or obviously I would be breaking NDAs.. And of course, it's so early on everything could change.  *(that's my disclaimer)*

Yep.  But I didn't see it our hear about what types of controls they're looking for.
