Camelot's already on board - howza bout they drop this Golden Sun nonsense and get crackin' on a franchise that'll bring in mucho dinero?

Frozen:  Actually I think this would be a great idea...but I think Nintendo and Square need to partner up together to do it.  Something akin to Kingdom Hearts with Nintendo characters would be awesome.  I mean the Mushroom kingdom alone could easily be 10 hours of unique game play.

Zelda could be a few awesome dungeons and Metroid would be killer too.

Now throw in Star Fox, Donkey Kong, Some Kart racing, Kirby, Advance Wars, Fire Emblem, Golden Sun, Pikmin, and more and you have yourself an insane game.

Yeah, Square did a great job on Mario RPG, Squeenix should be able to do great with all the franchises.
If it played the same or at least similar to Mario RPG, it'd be great. Ness should front line though.
OH BETTER YET!!!
It should star Captain N, that way the tie-ins would make sense, and it'd be kinda like Kingdom Hearts only Nintendo and not Disney. Ness could be his main sidekick.

I'd rather we have a fresh, i.e. not turn based like the GB incarnations, Pokémon RPG, a good Super Mario RPG, or another Earthbound then them trying to produce a RPG around the Smash Bros concept.

Only if Intelligent Systems do it, because Paper Mario is the only RPG I can tolerate.

I still think an Action RPG would work better.  Do it a la X Men Legends and have 4 player cooperative mayhem in action RPG style.  Yeah, I'd go for that.

I couldn't see SSB RPG done any other way, frankly.

I think this would be a pretty cool idea if done right.  I really like what Square did with Super Mario RPG so if they could do that good of a job again I'm all for it.  One thing I really like about Super Mario RPG is that it plays like a turn based RPG but the battle system is very straightforward and easy to understand for someone who doesn't play a lot of RPGs.  I can't really get into Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi because they feel like they're designed for people who don't like RPGs.  Super Mario RPG is designed more for someone who WANTS to like RPGs but often doesn't because of stupid little things like random battles, a whiny emo storyline, a complicated battle system, etc.  Paper Mario is like a Mario game turned into an RPG.  Super Mario RPG is like an RPG with Mario characters in it.  It's hard to explain but it nailed it perfectly for me.

I find action elements in RPGs SUCK because they just remind me of how much better the game would be if it played like Zelda.  The slower pace of a turn based RPG and the ability to stop and think about your next move is the whole point of RPGs.  They're games you beat with your brains, not your reflexes or timing.  Once you start having elaborate timed attacks and active time systems and stuff like that you're basically combining the worst of both worlds.  You're merging the slow pace of an RPG with a requirement for action game skills.  The game is too slow for action gamers and requires too much action game skills for RPG gamers.

I would be fine with Camelot or IS doing it provided I liked how it played.  They're talented devs so I don't doubt their abilities at all.  Though if the needless blather talk that made me give up on Golden Sun is a standard trademark of Camelot then keep them FAR away from the project.

An SSB RPG would rock, but Nintendo and the developer would have to work hard in order to make it work and stand out. The least they want is Kingdom Hearts comparisons. Namco X Capcom  did a pretty good job of doing it's own thing without drawing comparisons.

I hope Square does make another Ninendo RPG either Mario or SSB based. After all, Square does seem to like the console.

Arbok: There will be no more EarthBound games. The team announced that after Mother 3 they were done with the series forever. (Mother 3 was released for GBA in Japan a couple months ago.)

Yeah it is. While the game does feature some really well known characters (Ryu, Ken, the Tekken characters, Megaman etc.) it also features some really obscure Japan only characters. Plus I read that if they tried to bring it over to the US there would be licensing problems between the two companies, and that the only way they could release the game was if another third party released it in the US.

That's very strange.  Why would Namco and Capcom be perfectly fine playing nice in Japan but not in the US?  Logically you figure they could just say "yes we can use each other's characters for this game" but there's probably some sort of legal mumbo jumbo that prevents them from doing something they both consent to.

why is that a problem? paper smash bros would rock and everyone knows it. I hope theres a paper mode for brawl, that would be simply awesome.

This could be hilarious fun.  My first reaction was ugh, but then I thought about it and it could be so fun and stupid and awesome.
Nintendo would have to make it.  Intelligent Systems or some developer like that.  If Square-Enix did it, I'd literally vomit.

Yeah, no Square-Enix development.

A X-Men Legends style action RPG would be...interesting. Especially since all the Nintendo guys have a unique and varied moveset.

That's what I thought too. It could be either that or Sony's strict policy of no 2D games on the PS consoles and handhelds...

Now that Bandai and Namco have merged, I might guess that the licensing issue might be there if there are any Bandai (now Namco) characters.  (I'm sure I could be wrong, but I imagine it could be kind of like how Takara owns Transformers in Japan but Hasbro does in North America.  So to bring over a game like Dream Mix TV World Fighters (or whatever that game is called), you know, that Hudson/Konami/Takara take on Smash Bros. which includes characters from all those companies - including Optimus Prime and Megatron - would require Hasbro's consent as well.)

And even if it's not a Bandai/Namco thing specifically, there could be some other obscure Namco or Capcom character who is important in the game but is someow legally confusing as to who has the rights.  I'm sure if they only had popular, worldwide-known characters that have had games on either side of the Pacific there would be no problem bringing a game with them over.

Is that for real?  I hear it all the time.  Even if I don't agree, I can understand them wanting to discourage 2D games on the eve of a new system when they're trying to push 3D graphics and high resolution and whatnot - but if it's a truly strict policy that stops 2D games on already-established systems like the PS2, than that is totally dumb.

But wait, why do some games like Hyper Street Fighter II (and other 2D Capcom fighters) end up on the PS2?  Can Capcom get away with 2D games more often?
