yeah, "celda" doesnt relate, the same with the controller shock reaction. With those reveals you just see a part of it and for both the answer was the same "wait and see, when you test it in your hands it will be awesome". That doesnt apply to the name, the name is what it is, period, theres nothing more to look forward about it.

'Celda' certainly didn't sell the way a 'realistic' version would have, and it certainly didn't move systems like it either.

And yet it made for a better game, which is all that matters in that case.

With Wind Waker, Nintendo was going with a new artisistic direction that many people didn't understand. They thought the game would be worse off, but it was actually better. Now, Nintendo is going with a new marketing direction that many hardcore gamers don't understand. They think sales will be worse off, but Nintendo thinks they know better.

Not that Nintendo is anywhere near as good as marketing as they are at making good games, but that's not the point. The point is, Nintendo fans don't know anything.

...Or at least, every new direction Nitnendo takes causes an uproar, and said uproars are not good indications of whether Nintendo's new directions are good or bad.

If it was a cooking sim, I doubt they would feel inclined to apologize.
That said, today was the first work day they didn't update the Wii channel in a week or two.  Odds are they did have a story planned.  I wouldn't think Mario.  I would think Nintendo would want to save that salvo for their conference.

Is they fact they are letting so much out, so close, mean they don't feel like having a ton of surprises or does it mean they have more coming that are even more Earth shattering?

Nintendo might be the only company in the world people apply reverse psychology to.

Im not excited about a cooking game, I liked the bit of making the cake in Paper Mario 64, but I wouldnt pay more than $10 for just cooking.

I'd only want a cooking game if it was physically accurate, like the cooking temperature of chicken in the game was the same IRL, the heat applied from various stoves was accurate, etc.

If you could transfer cooking skill in the game to RL, then it's something to be excited about. Ideally, the painting game should be able to do this as well.

Personally I think cooking would work better as a mini-game within a bigger game.  But I'm thinking from a "gamer" perspective instead of a "non-gamer" one.

If they want to make a cooking game, fine.  I won't buy it but if they want to make it, that's okay.  Just don't give me a cooking game and say "okay there's your flagship title" or "there's the new Miyamoto IP, if you don't like it we have plently of cookie cutter sequels for you hardcore gamers".  That's the vibe I get on the DS.  New stuff for the non-gamers, sequels for the hardcores.  I want new Miyamoto games that are made for ME.  I want new games and new ideas made for people who have played games before and require some familiarity with videogames in order to play.  I don't want to see all the new ideas used for cooking games and other g!mmicky junk.

Plus I would hope that a cooking game wouldn't be their best idea for the remote.  I would hope they could come up with something with a little more depth to it.  So it's fine as a supporting title that costs less and pads the launch lineup but not as the big title that is supposed to sell the concept and sell millions of Wii's (new problem with the name: pluralization!)

Ian San,e you're mistaken. Miyamoto ultimately makes games for himself, not for any of us.

No good games for him. I'm almost in the same position. It has been an excellent GBA though, I love my Metroid Zero Mission and Fusion and my chinese cartridge with 166 games .

Cooking by itself would be a little thin, unless the game is insanely robust (Allowing thousands of ingredients).

What I think would be cool though is a restaurant simulator where you play head chef and get to design the menu and prepare all the main dishes. Then get customer feedback and whatnot.

Frankly I don't think Nintendo should be setting out with "X is our flagship title". They should focus on making good games that are deep and replayable and compelling and let the flagship title work itself out.

Yeah, the flagship for the DS wound up being Nintendogs. I don't think Nintendo would have picked it, given the choice.

Whatever sells the most is their flagship, I suppose.

That is a great idea.  I'm not sure I'd be interested in a cooking game (depends on the price, content), but this sounds interesting.

I'm quite sure 1 on 1, or 2 on 2 competition cooking would be fun.  Kind of like those music games.

How about a restaurant game which mimics the game mechanics of Aerobiz for the NES.  You control everything about the resturant, and you incorporate the cooking games into it to.  Most tables served, first course the quickest, who gets desert out quicker.  By all of these mini games, you build a buzz about your restaurant, anabling you to expand your business.
