So who actually liked Geist?
« on: April 14, 2006, 09:46:21 AM »
I thought Geist was totally amazing.  Sure it might look straight out of 2001, but it really had a lot of good things going for it.  Discuss.

(There wasn't any really good Geist topics to dig up)
Yeah, I do play mafia games.

I really liked it, I wish it just got more press then it did.
I hope we see Geist 2 on the Revolution.

I lked Geist, even though I don't like FPS on a console with analog sticks.

I think I will go back and finish it at some point

I like Geist.

It makes a great foundation for future Rev games.

I wouldve bought it, but games around here are expensive, and I'd prefer to spend such big amount in a "safer" purchase like Paper Mario or Fzero because I know I will like those games, while with Geist I don't know.

Looking forward to trying it out come summer...

I think what killed the game was that it took too much to release and even Nintendo kinda ignored it a bit.

Didn't like it.

Flawed technically, and while the concept of play was probably cool on paper, it didn't play out well.

I liked the single player mode... but the multiplayer didn't offer enough depth for my taste.

The game lacked polish though... for a game that was in development for virtually the entire millenium it felt a little rushed.

I didn't finish for some silly design reasons which infuriated me, plus eventually it gave me headaches.

I liked it for maybe 2 hours, then it was just way too repetitive.

YOu know it was a fun game.  I finished it.  I didn't even finish RE4.  Tho I probably put more hours into RE4.

Geist had the framework of a pretty great game.  They just didn't go back and fill it in with Nintendo AAA polish.  I mean there were slowdowns and the graphics were mixed.  Sometimes you'd see great lighting and pretty good textures and other times you'd see fuzzy weird looking guys, flat lighting and dull textures.    The transition effect to becoming a ghost could have been smoother.  The shooting wasn't that polished.  But overall  it was fun.  A great concept that has room to go even further.  If they had the Retro guys polishing up the game it would have been killer.

Also I don't like videogame stories, but I thought Geist's story was well done.

I just think if Nintendo puts out a sequel and gets some AAA polish on it then we'll be in for a treat.  I definitely get tired of fps games where all I do is shoot.  This one mixed things up between the possession thing, shoot outs and boss creatures.  That's why I finished it.  I never got bored.

I played Geist on recommendation (from several people, many here) and was underwhelmed.  The FPS aspects lacked depth and polish, and the ghost/puzzle aspects, while interesting, could have been played out much, much better.
I'd like to see something similar, but with a stronger focus on the ghost features.  Like, maybe a game that was totally ghost oriented, about haunting people or something similar.
The plot was corny, too.
I finished it, but I didn't feel the sense of satisfaction I get from Nintendo games.

(In regards to RE4, which people are comparing it too, RE4 was much better but far too long.  I was ready for it to end by the end of the first disc.  It was the same exact thing for twenty hours, eventually just became flat out boring)

I was under RE4's spell the whole way though.....it takes one helluva game to get me to play non-stop from beginning to end, and RE4 had the stuff!

Still haven't played Geist though.....and actually I have no desire to.

Geist was fun when it didn't throw some stupid boss battle at you. In fact why do games even have boss battles? Boss battles were invented in coin-op arcade games to KILL you, forcing you to put more money in to keep playing. Why do they exist in games we've already payed full price for? I didn't pay full price for a game that I can't complete because suddenly theres a giant mutant boss thing that has crushed my lift and takes about a million rounds of ammunition to it's moving mouth to kill.

Hey, I like bosses.
And the final boss is possibly my favorite part of the game, along with some of the ghost sequences.

That was definitely one of the more annoying bosses.  The worst part for me was that I figured out most of what I had to do, but the graphics were too muddy for me to figure out what my grenades were doing, so I didn't realize the claws were blocking them.  I finally gave up and checked a guide online.  Without a doubt, though, the most annoying boss battle in the whole game was against those blasted spectral forces coming out of the helicopter wreckage.  However, I also found some of the boss battles a lot of fun, especially the giant statues.

I knew going into it that Geist wasn't considered a good shooter, but it was easily worth the heavily discounted price just to experience it.  Actually, I found it more playable than Halo, but that's probably because I'm more comfortable with the controller.  I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel.

If you dislike bosses, give Halo a try. And see how boring games would be without them.

I liked the multiplayer, it was a new experience. However the controls were inaccurate and clunky. I will certainly look out for the (hopefully) inevitable sequal.

I didn't like Geist.

At its core their implementation of the ghost concept was so thinly worked on that it amounted to little else than a sparkling innovation expect in a few rare cases.

With that out of the way, the entire rest of the game was a horrifically mediocre FPS.

I'd like to think well of N-Space despite my heavy dislike for this game though, and believe that with the Revolution not being headache-inducing-ambitious in the development environment, perhaps they'll fare better next game and perhaps they can develop a more complete concept next time as well.
