One thing I've noticed about being an adult gamer that is considerably better than being a kid gamer is that I actually can afford to buy games on a regular basis.  When I was kid I had no job and no allowance and my parents were very anti-videogame so I very rarely got any new games.  Now I buy a new game every few months and frequently buy used games.  When something big like Zelda comes out I can buy it on release day and not have to worry about saving up every quarter I find or hoping to get it for Christmas.

Plus as an adult you have control over what TV you play it on.  When I was a kid I only got to play on the "kids' TV" which was of course incredibly old and crappy.  Now I can buy my own TV and my own sound system, etc.

As for how long I'll continue to play games that remains to be seen.  I'm 21 right now and unmarried so I don't have to focus on a wife and kids.  As a result I'm pretty passionate about games and it remains one of my main interests.  When I do get married and have kids I will have less time to play games so it's likely I won't play them so often.  I don't think I'll stop playing them outright though.  At the very least I'll still continue to play Zelda and likely any multiplayer games that my future kids would want to play with me.  I figure I'll stop playing games when I'll be too old to understand any sort of complicated electronics anymore.  Computers are more difficult to use then game consoles and considering I'm a programmer I'll likely be retired before I find games too complicated.

Glad to hear that then.  With me it would be painful to go to work each day knowing that I am fueling a system which I loathe...  (Kind of being like a guard at a concentration camp)

But I am quite happy for you knowing that you don't mind the work you do.  You will have to let me know when your game is closer to completion, as I want to check it out.

I'm 36 and still have the 2600 and ColecoVision (man, what a shame) in the basement.  First home system was simply the "JCPenney TV Game" - Pong and Hockey (which was Pong with TWO sticks on a side).  Oooh Daddy, if you had the TV Game on a Curtiss Mathes floor model color TV, you were the cat to be reckoned with......

I was hoping some of the older fellas would mention the kinds of games/genres that interest them nowadays (especially those guys - or gals - that have been gaming for 20-30 years).  Haven't found many "Mature" titles that I care for (but then again, after turning 17, R rated movies didn't make as big an impact either, I guess).  I did enjoy ED, but have little use for the RE (Resident Evil or Really Endless) series.  Love Mario/Metroid/Zelda and any good platformer.

Due to going through the teen years in arcades playing reflex shooters, I look forward drooling to the release of a game like Ikaruga.  I'd love to see some 2D love from Konami with new Contra and Castlevania (Port it from PS2, I dont care).  Can't wait for FZero, Mega Man, Wario World and SM128.  I hate to feel those titles make me seem old, but I just don't think the classic game mechanics go out of style.  Anyone else agree?

Well, I don't know how old you would consider me, but I feel really old.  (21 years)

I own 5 GameCube games.
-Rogue Leader
-Eternal Darkness
-Super Mario Sunshine
-Resident Evil 0
-Metroid Prime

I am currently desperately trying to find Skies of Arcadia, and I have Zelda pre-ordered.  If I had the money, I would buy Animal Crossing and Resident Evil as well.

I'm 30 and really enjoy videogames.  I expecially enjoy Nintendo games. At the time the N84 was out I was debating on which system to get: N64 or PS!. Both systems had demos of games you could play to test out each system.   Playstation had a diskload of about 20 games to view and play. Nintendo had one and that one game won me over. The others could not compete. That game was SuperMario 64.  Since that day, I've been enjoying Nintendo.  I have nothing against the other consoles, I just find the games on the Nintendo consoles to be more enjoyable and exciting.

I've had my gamecube for almost a year and have enjoyed every game I've purchased as have my friends.   I look forward to gaming for a very, very long time with no end in sight.

My games:
Super Monkey Ball
Super Monkey Ball 2
Lost Kingdoms
Eternal Darkness
Home Run King
Wave Race: Blue Storm
Batman Vengence
Star Wars Rogue Leader
Luigi's Mansion
Resident Evil
Super Smash Bros. Melee
ESPN: MLS Extreme 2002
Animal Crossing
Super Mario Sunshine
NBA Street  (Favorite)
Stat Fox Adventures
Zelda Bonus Disk
All-Star Baseball 2002 (my only bad purchase)

I am a 27 year old gamer and a proud GameCube owner with no plans to buy PS2 or X-Box. I hate so called "Mature" games. To me, having the need watch blood, guts, and men beating up hookers is very immature. I love sports games, puzzle games, and platformers.

Titles I own:
NCAA 2003
Madden 2003
Beach Spikers (great game)
Mario Party 4
Metroid Prime
Zelda OOT (soon to be WW!!!!)

well I might as well join the list.  I am a 25 year olld gamer married with 2 kids.  The only systems I have ever owned are Nintendo Consoles.  I am having the greatest time ever with my Cube.   The Nes asn SNES days were good but limited as being a kid with no money and only being able to afford rentals.  The N64 days were better in college with  buddies and Mario Kart.  Now I am at my own home with a nice tv and time to play (after kids are in bed).  I love games that challange my ability to control the situation like Monkey ball.  games like GTA got really boring about half an hour into it, just didn't have fun walking around beating old folk.  Oh well Nintendo for life.  Oh yeah also have a 24 year old friedn and 25 year old brother in law that I talked into buying a cube

Currently own:
Metroid
Timesplitters 2
Super Monkey Ball 2
Mario Party 4 (wife got it)
Tiger Woods 2003 (So addictive, 95% done)
NBA Live 2003
Resident Evil 0

I'll write my story also, so that maybe Nintendo gets a picture of it's older gamers.

I'm 29, married and I've always been a Nintendo fan (NES, SNES, N64, GBA and now the Cube). But, I also often buy the other consoles 'cause I want to see what else is there (Atari, coleco, sega master, Genesis and know PS2). My favorite games are always on Nintendo's machines. But, once and a while I have to much money and I need to get more games (and Nintendo doesn't supply enough games!) so I go out and buy another console. That's why I bought last june the PS2 with GTA (I wanted to play that game!). And I must say that GTA is a great game and I'm not talking about hitting on old people. The sript is good and when I have friends over we just play vigilenty missions or we try and get the highest wanted level (fun party game!).

And here's my game list in order of purchase :
Luigi's Mansion - great game, to small
Pikmin - great game
Super Monkey Ball - great game
Star Ware Rogue Squadron 2 - great game
Resident Evil - nice graphics, boring puzzles
Ethernal Darkness - Awesome game, great storyline
---Slow time for Nintendo, so I went and got the PS2---
Super Mario Sunshine - great game
TimeSplitters 2 - Awesome game, lot's of extras
Animal Crossing - Awesome game, just stoped playing after 3 months of everyday play
Super Monkey Ball 2 - great game, I liked #1 better
James Bond Agent Under Fire - boring game, to lineare
Metroid Prime - Awesome game
Curbivore - my worst purchase
Zelda Bonus Disk (Oot &MQ) - great classic

All consoles are great, but not all games.

Well, I am 33 and still enjoy the gaming hobby. Gaming is just a great innocent diversion and stress reliever.  I am married with a very comfortable life at this point. I am a school teacher looking to be an administrator soon. My students think its cool that I can discuss gaming with them once in a while. I have a Gamecube and Xbox, and I enjoy them both.  It is nice to see other people around my age that still enjoy this pastime. My GC games are: SSBM, Zelda OOT reissue, Tiger Woods 2003, Nascar 2003, Blood Rayne, Star Wars, Beach Spikers, Metroid, and Mario Party.

I posted this elsewhere but I'll post it here too:

I'm 28 and I'm a gamer til I die. If anything I'll always play games like Mario Kart, Quake Series, Timesplitters Series, but I'll play any game.  And a bunch of friends and I who are at least 28, get together once or twice a week to play the hell out of Timesplitters 2, and we play Quake 3/Serious Sam a lot online.  The Atari/NES generation of players will never stop playing games.

32 years young...Just took the plunge & bought a GC. I'm more of a pc guy than a console guy, but this purchase scratches a recent itch I've had NICELY. System came w/Metroid Prime (my choice). I also picked up RE, RE0 & Eternal Darkness, along with some accessories. Pre-ordered Zelda WW; went EVERYWHERE trying to find OoT to no avail Still, I'm very happy
'scuse me...gotta go play some MP...

31 year old Nintendo fan here. Married, 2 year old son and another boy on the way in a few months!
Big Nintendo fan. Picked up a platinum GBA SP today at Toys-r-Us along with Castlevania: Harmony of
Dissonance(Metroid Fusion is next). Got the GBA because I'm putting in a new kitchen floor for the wife.
Looking forward to the E3 this year as always. I think Nintendo is gonna have another awesome showing.

Zelda in just a few more days. Woot!

Hello, my name is JP & I'm an old gamer.

Really, I'm just 27 & a Nintendo customer. I love how Nintendo captures the imagination. And I'm very impressed with Silicon Knights. They have taken video gaming to a new level. The only thing I would change about Eternal Darkness is how linear it plays.

Anyways, the games that I like seem to be comparable to reading a good book. Even though Metroid Prime doesn't have a ton of FMV like Final Fatasy games, the story is still there to be read. Eternal Darkness has things that people are still discussing and trying to figure out on certain boards, as a matter of fact, I've recently picked ED up again & it still wows me.

Like almost everyone else that's posted about being an older gamer growing up in the Atari/NES era, my games back then were few. I already have like 13 or 14 games for the Cube, and that doesn't include my preordered Zelda: WW.

Bwahahahahahaha...I got all ye young whippersnappers beat. I have two kids in their early twenties and a third heading into her teens AND I have a three year old grandchild.

Do I play video games? You betcha...currently re-playing Zelda OOT on the GameCube and waiting for Wind Waker.  I too am a Nintendo fan and only own a GameCube at present and a GBA, and an N64. The Snes and Nes are...elsewhere. Actually, the GBA belongs to my youngest, though I 'borrow' it from time to time. Am looking at the SP though and the N64 and GameCube were bought more with the chillblains in mind but certainly I make use of it on an ongoing basis. Helps me relax and wind down and a good way to kill time every once in a while. I find I'll go in binges. Will play for a few days in a row, and then not touch it for a week or so. In that regard, I guess I'm slowing down a bit. Having said that, I suspect the new Zelda will be occupying my time for a bit though my youngest insists she gets to play it first. No problem there, I get to stay up later than she does.

Enjoy the games people.

It's funny. . . we've spent four whole pages saying how old we are (usually over 20), and there are people out there saying that Nintendo is a kiddie system.  While I'm a mere sixteen, I'm still a die-hard Nintendo fan, and while I would buy another system (haven't yet, but would), Nintendo will probably always be my first choice.  I have great respect for Shigeru Miyamoto and everyone else at Nintendo.

Can I just say how heartwarming it is to read this thread?  There's no talk about who's winning this, or sales of that, or ratings of this, or first place/second place.

This is a great thread.  Makes me realize why I love being a nintendo fan.  btw, I'm 21 years old, I started with the atari2600, then moved onto the NES, and have stuck with nintendo all the way.  I will have a Nintendo console as long as they make them, and all I can do is hope they never leave the video game industry, because although it's a little corny to say...

Nintendo has been a huge part of my life.  If they left the video game industry...  it'd be like my brother died...

Nintendo certainly has a lot of great and loyal fans.  I'm proud to be one

Glad to see I'm not in the minority here.  I've been gaming since the Atari 2600 days and have had every nintendo console to date (exception GBA SP).  Nintendo has always been my favorite and probably always will be.  Although I've only had my Gamecube for 3 weeks, I wonder what I did without it.  Oh wait, I played crappy PC games and cursed Microsoft.  Ok, I still do that sometimes, but my interest in PC games has really gone downhill since I got the cube.

30, single, and I've been gaming since Atari.  Although... I did take a decade-long break during my college years and first few years working (1992-2002).  The Nintendo64 and Playstation didn't impress me with their graphics.  Then I saw Final Fantasy 10 in action, and I HAD to have it.  And thus, my gaming addiction was reborn. ;-)

I'm 34, wife is 32, and my daughter is 10.  I started out on an Atari 2600 (minus pong) but then didn't buy another console until the NES came out.  Own a SNES, Sega Genesis, Playstation, Dreamcast, Nintendo 64 (Japanese - I'm American but work in South Korea picked it up on a trip to Japan), Playstation 2, and now a GameCube which I bought the daughter for Christmas past.  We all three play the GameCube more than our PS2.  And my wife and daughter talked me into playing Animal Crossing with them and now I'm hooked.  It looks like I'll have to break down and maybe buy another GameCube since we all three fight over game time and especially since Zelda should arrive shortly.

I would have to agree with the one poster that said the best thing about being older and a gamer is that now we have the money to buy the games we really want when we want them.
