Apparently the game is finally (or at least 99%) finished, special people have got their hands on early copies, so we should be getting more info/impressions soon.

I wonder if those special people who have early copies are able to play them on-line...

I hope the system is up in time for reviews.  It's not really fair if reviewers can't actually play one of the game's big selling points.

Who exactly are they going to play?  Each other?
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

If they hold the review until a day or two after release then there will be tons of people.

"If they hold the review until a day or two after release then there will be tons of people."

Of course a review isn't so useful if you already bought the game.

Though like any of us are going to wait for a review anyway.  The most I'm going to do is look at the score and make sure it didn't get a 3 or something.  Is the game broken?  No?  *runs to the store*

Is there any source of information that states whether Battle mode will be available online? It seems like such a silly thing to not include. Where was this information originally posted, and is there a chance Battle is still going to be available online?

It is not, because the team didn't have enough time to implement it...

That's ridiculous. The team surely has been planning from day one to implement all modes online. How can they not have enough time, especially if they got one of the modes to work? Is there a source on this, or just heresay?

If this is true, my anticipation for the game has been greatly diminished.

Yeah, unfortunately Battle Mode in Mario Kart DS will merely be "better" than previous ones, with the inclusion of online play it'd be EVEN BETTERER! Alas, we must settle for better.

It cracks me up when people have no respect for developers, especially with a game like this.  Nintendo is FORCING them to have it done by christmas, as it is incredibly important to their livlihood...

Hell, it's quite possible Nintendo had to have a meeting where the TP team and the MK team both asked for more time... they obviously couldn't delay both...

Deadlines are a bitch.  They stress me out and all I create is educational software for a limited audience... I can't imagine if I had millions of scary fans ready to kill me if I missed a deadline.

No online battle mode stinks, but I can't really complain when Nintendo is finally going online and doing it for free.  If this was a second or third-generation online game for them, then I'd be ticked off.
That's my opinion, not yours.

I can live with no online battle mode because this is the first online Mario Kart game so it's not like they're removing an existing feature.  If the Rev Mario Kart has online battle mode and then later a future Mario Kart doesn't then I would be upset because they removed the feature.  And at this point I would consider no online battle mode for the Rev Mario Kart to be totally unacceptable.  But for now we're still getting a big jump up from what previous Mario Karts gave us.

I thought it was made pretty obvious a good while back when the announcement was first made that battle mode wasn't included because of the potential lag issues involved.

Why is Baby Park a returning track?  That was the the dullest level in DD!! by a wide margin.  It's just not fair that the person in last place can take out the first in first with a green shell because he's been lapped twice.

EDIT:  Added additional spoiler tags to make Pale happy.

My theory whenever something dull makes return appearances is that in reality it's the pet project of someone and they thus shove it down everyone's throats to try to pass their idea off as something worthwhile.  It's like that one horrible song nobody likes that for whatever reason makes every hits collection or box set or live album the band ever releases.  So maybe that track is like the favourite track of some big Nintendo developer.
