So, did anyone notice in those spanish videos it appeared that setting up the wifi connection was done in game?  This is kind of a bummer if you ask me.

Well, we've had this discussion in one of the wifi threads... but it's frustrating to think that Nintendo won't include some sort of WiFi set up firmware update to the DS.

Anyone who uses truly random WEP keys knows what I'm talking about.  By doing it in the game, every time I set up a new WiFi game for the first time, I will have to enter a random 10 digit string that I will have to look up on my router.  I mean, it's kind of a hassle, and I think it's a sign that we will never see any sort of firmware update for the DS, because I can't think of a better reason to do it than this.

I'm happy to play my games, but also bummed we will never see the actual unit with full online integration.  The odds of getting a browser just went down a bit.

Edit: On the plus side, at least it appears that the game will store multiple connection options.  I travel between at least 3 wifi networks regularly, and I like the idea that I can put the info for each in there once, and not have to re-enter every time I move around.

Who cares about all that WiFi mumbo jumbo?  Unless my eyes deceived me, BLOCK FORT has returned as a battle arena in this game!

I have no idea how the DS works, but couldn't the game write the connection details to the DS's flash memory or something like that? Then the details could be used by all games.

Does the DS even have flash or some kind of NV memory?

I guess that is possible...  I'll hold out some hope but I don't think it's very likely.

DS has flash memory or it couldn't store your settings.

Settings are lost when you pull out the battery. I guess I can't say for sure that that means the DS entirely lacks non-volatile memory, but it isn't using any now. It does still have re-writeable storage for settings, but I have no idea how much.

So is there any word on WPA support? If there's only WEP I'll have to use my PC as a temporary AP. WEP is simply not secure for a static network.

J1: Hey this is a long line
J2: ....
J1: Whats eveyone in line for?
J2: I don't know
J1: Why are you in the line?
J2: Well everyone else is in it, so I decided to stand in it too.

They had better bring back the blockfort from MK64, that was my favorite one, followed closely by the three level with the platform under the hole in the center.

Well it should because one of those tracks you have under new tracks isn't new as it was in the SNES Mario Kart, so that makes it not new....

Thats what I was referring to, I stated it as if they knew it had to be done or I would get mad, as if I had any influence over Nintendo

because they are dumb.  My comments really doesn't fit with what I quoted, really anways.

But really, if it's going to have a similar name, then they aren't doing anything to give the idea that it is new.  It's like make a new Zelda game and each one called just Legend of Zelda, no subtitle or anything... or something.

Must... resist... videos...

So when the game hits and we all want to organise online games with each other, are we going to do that in this thread or start a new Wifi thread? Maybe eventually when there's enough wifi games out there can be an online gaming seperate forum? *shrug* Oh well, we'll figure that out later I guess, it's gonna be fun.

I am so pumped for Nintendo Wi-fi Connection. I purchased a new wireless router recently and reserved Mario Kart DS today.

I think that a separate forum would be the best. Maybe with automatic threads created for each day for improved organization (Ex: "Mario Kart battles for 11/14/05") and announcements for official tournaments. Then within the daily threads people could just say, "Anyone on for 6:00 PM PST?" and match up like that.

One month is so far away...
Thanks for listening.

We should definitely have a weekly thing similar to Planet Trivia...but the WiFi connection is pretty retarded in the way we can't make our own servers.
