Your Perfect E3 Conference
« on: May 10, 2005, 07:37:41 PM »
Ok.  Here is the question.  What do you want Nintendo show for their pre E3 Show.  How do you want the conference to go?  What is the feel you want the conference to take?

Here is mine.

I want Nintendo's conference to be focused on the future of Nintendo and the myths that people have about Nintendo.

Starting with the Gamecube I want Nintendo to focus its conference on gaming for older market.  How Nintendo is a system for the older market.  Talk about the games Zelda, Giest, and Fire Emblem.  Don't just show video while someone talks, but have someone playing the game while the speaker is talking, and have him incorporate occassionally the video images with the speech.  At the end of speech transition into the DS and what future DS games can be enjoyed by older market gamers.  Really focus on changing the image of Nintendo.

Second break the myth of Nintendo no supporting online gaming.  Bring out the guns with the DS and have a DS Hotspot brought into the conference room.  Give away a few DS prices and then allow those people among others to play new DS online games that they downloaded from the Hotspot.  These are sample versions of other games coming out.  Again talk about the future of Nintendo and online gaming.  Present DS games that will take full advantage of this in video form while also showing someone playing the DS with the media.  Tranisition into speaking about the Revolution and the online plans for the revolution.

Near the end of talking about Revolution online support, bring the lights down and crank one huge presentation video of games coming out for Revolution.  Spot light not only Nintendo games, but also 3rd party games coming out for the Revolution.

Bring lights up and continue talking about the future plans of revolution.  Finally tell the media that "We have one last surprise for all of you."  The Nintendo gamecube demos shown early weren't played on the Gamecube, but was played on this.  (Pulls a curtan away from the Revolution console  (They don't have to show the controller.))

Allow media pictures and brochures of the Revolution and game stills.

- Zelda trailer that shows some new stuff, but not enough to be too much
- Pokemon XD trailer
- Geist trailer spotlighting the improvements since GDC
- Reggie pimping out the DS' lead over the PSP
- Reels of new DS and GBA footage
- Reel of Rev footage (which includes surprising 3rd party support) ended with Mario 128 footage

Pretty much standard...Online stuff goes in there I guess, but to me that's boring stuff that'd make less time for game footage!

- Very specific details regarding their online strategy
- At least one Cube game that we have never seen before.  Just some cool title that no one expected to end the Cube with the bang.
- A game that sells me a DS.
- Enough information about the Rev that everyone is excited about it, not just Nintendo fans but everyone.  I'm talking like the day after all the game sites are talking about how cool the Rev is.  So I want info and info that's worth getting excited about.

After I see that conference I want to be excited and confident in Nintendo's future.

Revolution Partnerships, developers on board, video clips, maybe Hideo Kojima, Shinki Mikami, Cliffy B, and Shiggy all on stage talking about the future of gaming.

No need for specs really, or the controls, and i dont need the Revolution Playable. I just want to know that third parties are back in the saddle....

New Nintendo DS games, Street Dates on Ninendo-Live and the compatible games..... and possibly Mike support?

Zelda and Mario 128 trailers since both might be the last great titles on the console.  No spoilers though

Thanks for the comments everyone.  Keep them coming.

Individual thoughts:

Ian:  I think the game that will end Gamecube in a huge bang is Zelda.  It seems Nintendo is pulling all the stops on that game and going to make it perfect.  Oh, and E3 should have a game to sell you a DS, but then Sony should also have you a game to sell you a PSP.  Hmmm

Bill:  I expect any and every game that will be for Gamecube to be playable at E3 so I really don't need to see tons of videos of it at the conference.  Which is why I was wanting more interaction and information.  Let the media capture their videos later at E3.

Also, I would much rather have Pokemon XD and Mario pushed back to Revolution and start Revolution launch with Mario 128 and the Pokemon online RPG we have been wanting for awhile.  Ok I know Pokemon XD probably won't be online, but if they pushed it back to Revolution they could atleast add an online battle mode, or tournament mode.

I want Reggie to BREAK A WALL then enter the stage through that, then KICK A CAMERA and BAM footage of lots of new GC and DS games for 5 minutes. Then Miyamoto and Iwata ride on to the stage on Karts, Miyamoto throws a banana peel in front of Iwata and Iwata spins out, then they both get out and start playing Mario Kart DS Online against 6 other people in 6 different countries. Then the stage goes dark... the spotlight shines on something in the middle of the stage, it's the Revolution, it floats up into the air and then hovers around the crowd, then it flies up above everyone and projects a light down on the entire room, holograms of Mario, Luigi, Wario and Yoshi are all of a sudden jumping around the stage, then LINK comes out of nowhere and slashes them all with his sword, it's then revealed that this is a new Super Smash Brothers game. Miyamoto then runs up to Link and does a flying kick, and it actually connects with him and Link goes flying off the stage. He then proclaims "I AM NOT RINK.. BUT I DID KICK HIM", then Iwata claims "I AM MARIO", the crowd is confused and in awe, then Reggie beats his chest and everyone cheers.

Then... alright i'll be serious.

- A new Super Mario game is shown for NINTENDO GAMECUBE
- Nintendo DS online is very easy to use and is demonstrated
- New GC games are shown, and they rock
- Donkey Kong Jungle Beat 2 is shown, and it's for either GC or Revolution, I don't mind
- Nothing regarding a new Gameboy is even mentioned
- GAME FOOTAGE GAME FOOTAGE GAME FOOTAGE, I want trailers of Pokemon XD, new Super Mario game, Geist, Revolution games, and whatever else they have

I want to hear that they're not going to leave me with a ten-month wait for Revolution with only one or two new GameCube games.  Revolution in the summer of 2006 would be good, and plenty of details about it should be unveiled, minus the big "secret", if that's necessary/possible.  I personally think Nintendo and Sony should both be taking Xbox 360's early launch seriously, and should be aiming to release a bit earlier in 2006 than they might have planned.

They should also show us that DS is going to have a lot of excellent software this year, and give a demonstration of online play.

Beyond that, I'm not too concerned.  A couple of new GameCube games would be very good, I'm not done with my Cube yet.  I don't want to hear anything about a next-generation Gameboy, but I don't mind if they announce an upgrade to the GBA, I think it's popular enough to sustain another enhancement, but the handheld focus should be on DS.
That's my opinion, not yours.

A perfect E3 for me would involve one thing and only one thing.  Atlus has to commission Nippon Ichi to create an Ogre Battle game for Revolution and update the old ones a in a compilation.  Like DXify the games and mesh them together for a 400 hour gaming experiance. I'd die.  Ogre Battle>*.

Ok so it'll start with the whole room doused in a red light ok? And then a silluette of Che Geuvara's face will appear on the wall. Slowly that face with morph into Mario's in a similar pose. And then there will be a loud call "Join the Revolution!"
BAM!
Lights come out, rocking music starts and out comes Reggie, FIST in the air, to the cheers of the weak journalists below him. As he steps into center stage they'll notice that his fist contains a PSP. He'll then SLAM the PSP into the floor. As it lays in 400 pieces on the ground Reggie will boom "Someone pass me an Xbox 360!" Then out of no where some cock dressed in one of those Master Chief suits comes out and Reggie starts fighting him and of course it's no contest, Reggie wins.

Then it turns out that the rockin music was coming from Wolfmother who come out on stage and do their thing for about 2 minutes. Of course their lead singer is donning the cape that he always wears except for the Perth Big Day Out.

Next to come out is Shiggy.  He'll be all like "I'm having a lot of fun!" This combination of fist from Reggie, music from Wolfmother and shiggy jsut being there withh stun, hypnotise and entrance the entire audience.

And then they get down to business and Iwata comes out with a revolution and they glorify it and show a huge demo reel that leaves at least four journos passed out and another two having to leave because they've soiled themselves.
Games shown on the Revolution will include but not be limited to:
- A revamped Advance Wars: Under Fire, titled "Revolutionary Wars"
- Pokemon XD, now renamed Pokemon Net
- Super Smash Brothers: Fist, which will see a modified Nintendo lineup and 3rd party characters.
- Lylat Wars (to be renamed Starfox in PALand)
- Metroid V: Revolt on Brinstar
- Pilotwings
- DaYS: Into Dreams
- Various generic 3rd party games.
It will be announced that revolution will be playable with actual controllers on the show floor and that the first four games I listed will be online, at launch ('cept Lylat Wars), for free. Upon hearing this, various male attendees will ejaculate without have even made contact with their wangs.

Reggie will then announce that they will move on, afterall "We're not a one trick pony, or a Halo console for that matter."

Out comes DS. Mario Kart, New Mario Brothers (which doesn't look rubbish,) Advance Wars, Another Code, Nintendogs, Metroid Hunters, Castlevania, VFX Battle all that bang wiz stuff. Nintendo talk about how easy online will be. Then they show us brand new unannounced DS games. These include:
- Legend of Zelda: Hyrule at War, complete with touch screen battles
- Pokemon Quartz and Opal
- Earthbound
- Half Life: Isotope + Counter Strike
- Shinobi: Subtitle (2D)
- Tekken Online
- Touch Pikmin

Then finally they'll pull out a Cube and start showing all the games we pretty much know about. Geist, Zelda, Donkey Konga, Crappy Baseball games. They'll slip in a few surprises too but all these surprises will share the characteristic of being Konami games, ported and enhanced on Gamecube. Of course everyone in the audience will simultaneously ask "But why the about face?" Reggie will simply respond with "I kicked some arse." As he says this the video screen behind him will have written on it "(Sexy) Iwata slept with the right women." Reggie will also mention Revolution being backwards compatible with Cube. A new bongo game will be unveiled alongside a more complete looking Odama, Double the Fist: The Game. One more game will be shown, it will be named Silver Moon. They will talk a little about their dogy Baseball offering and state that they've created a whole new development studio devoted to making a decent range of non Mario franchise sports titles to completely and utterly humilate EA Of course this sports range won't include a soccer title because Konami will be giving us all PES updates.

Procedings will then begin to unwound. They'll crap on about GBA sales a little and Wolfmother will rock faces.

Everyone will leave the stage but the video screen will stay on. A humming and dim glow coming from the screen will keep the journos, eager to leave and masturbate, glued to the spot. After 30 seconds it'll explode into life showing one last revolution game. It wont have a title and the footage will be selected to confuse people. But, one thing will be made clear; it's a mario game, co-starring sonic and they will both return to their roots albeit in 3D and do it gloriously.

As the jounalists file out, a slight spring in their step now that they're pathetic lives have been given a glimmer of joy, The Internationale will play.

EDIT: I keep editing this to add stuff.

Atlus doesn't own Ogre Battle.  Square Enix current owns Ogre Battle and they more or less are sitting on it.  I agree that Nippon Ichi would be a good choice though I prefer if they worked on Tactics Ogre.

You guys have certainly got imagination, I'll give you that.

As for myself:
- Nintendo announces the whole online direction is a big elaborate joke.
- Reggie invents a new catchphrase.
- Nintendo shows off plenty of new games I want to play.
- Nintendo shows a NEW franchise, maybe an FPS.
- A tiny little bit of Revolution info, maybe a teaser.
- A series of full-fledged kickass games on the DS to convince me to buy it.

Edit: Wow, there seems to be a lot of pent-up sexual aggression in here.

Revolution lots of it, and DS, maybe even more of it. And Reggie would devour something.

But to make it perfect....

Nintendo would announce that they have bought all rights to the Nekketsu series of games ( River city ransom for us Americans) and will be ressurecting the series like a wonderous pheonix.  They would announce a crazy 3-D fighting game akin to powerstone set in the Nekketsu universe.  This game would be the evolution of the rom classic Riki Kunio.  It would feature a ropbust character creation system, and allow you to play as all the classic characters.  It would feature some form of online.  The graphics would be similiar in style to the old games, but much more manga/anime.  It would be cel-shaded, but feature immense amounts of gore.

Next they would annouce a Nekketsu sports series for the DS.  It would include a soccer game, a hockey game, a basketball game, a baseball game, and a track and field game.  They would all be natural evoilutions of the established nekketsu sports line.  The bottom screen would have a similiar feature in each game, it would be used to play on the spot calls, choose who to pass to, and special moves.  In the soccer game it would give detailed weather reports.  For the track and field game it would be used to do various rubbing action to perform a task.  All would have gratuitous violence.

Finally they would announce a MMORPG called "Return To River City"(Return to Nekketsu High for the Japanese).  This game would have an extremly robust character creation system, so complicated that every single player could look differently.  The gameplay would conist of taking over part of a city and having your gang hold it.  You could join a gang, be a free agent, or just mess with everybody.  It would have open ended gameplay akin to GTA, and would also have just as expansive of a single player mode.  This game would be a launch title for the Nintendo Revolution.  It would have a super slick anime cel-shaded look, and also have kill bill amounts of gore.  It would be a launch title and the Flagship online title.

All of these titles would be playable, and and the Cube and DS games would release within three months time.  The Nekketsu series would be Nintendo's way of staying franchise centric, showing something new, having a cartoonish exterior, and having something super violent on thier hands.  And with Nintendo at the helm the series could finally rise from mediocrty.

Also, if you don't know what the Nekketsu series is google it.  Sorry for all the text...
It may be simple, but it ain't easy.

The beatles song "Revolution"
You say you want a revolution
Well you know
we all want to change the world
You tell me that it's evolution
Well you know
We all want to change the world
But when you talk about destruction
Don't you know you can count me out
Don't you know it's gonna be alright
Alright Alright.

and Nintendo Vp George Harrison Comes out and shows off the sexy design of the revolution.
Then reggie comes out and plays some game footage for the new system

Miyamoto comes out and then announces his new game that was top secret

Sotashi Tajiri comes out and shows off a new pokémon

a developer reel plays with devlopers raving about revolution

Iwata talks about DS and Gamecube and Rev

Then miyamoto returns to show of Zelda

I'm pretty much in agreeance with everyone else on some points.

-Show me the Rev, and lay down about 60% of it to me. Some game reels, the name, the design, the SECRET (if it doesn't involve the controller), online plans, and who's on board to develop for it so far. No controller necessary...for now.

-Show me playable footage of Zelda.

-Show me that Geist doesn't suck. I'm not entirely convinced yet. But that's probably more geared towards the showfloor.

-Show me Pokemon XD. No net play necessary since it'll be a full fledged RPG I'll have enough to work with. But the memory data BETTER be compatible with the eventual Rev sequel with online play (which in turn, would be compatible with the DS. ZOMG.)

-Show me Mario 128, and tell me why it'll be the greatest Mario game of all time (I'm looking at you Reggie).

-Show me the next round of DS games. I don't own one so I want to be mighty impressed with the innovation.

-Show me how the wireless online works in some detail.

-Tell everyone how Meteos kicks Lumines ass left and right.

-Show me something new that I couldn't possibly guess. Hopefully a new franchise, or an old one that hasn't been whored out to death yet (Punch Out, Earthbound).
Oops pow suprise!

Show us the Revolution, the controller, and have someone playing it.

Who knows, maybe they'll pull another Zelda this year and show us something completely unexpected. Since half the gaming world expects there to be no Revolution at all, that would be quite the surprise.
