Wireless Multiplayer will make a difference.  Know what I like more than playing advance wars?  Playing it against humans.   Wouldn't that be much easier if I could do that over the Internet with my buddies who live 30 min away from the comfort of my own home.  That's what I look forward to the most in Advanced Wars DS (assuming that's in the new Advance Wars DS)

Um that's a bold statement to make, since the PSP isn't out anywhere but Japan yet.

As for Sony charging a Wi-Fi fee, I don't believe that. They don't charge a fee for PS2 games online.

Anyway, this isn't really that bad since I fully expect Nintendo will in fact release an online Mario Kart and they have an online plan. They just need to hurry up, and freaking say something about it.

They've all been done before but they're all the most anticipated games for the DS. So don't go slamming the PSP because they're rehashing "the same crap over and over again". EVERYBODY does that."

"Gamebasher, that's possibly the best Nintendo fanboy posting I've ever seen. Kudos. ;-D"

First of all, Silks, THANKS! I looove getting appraisal´s. So done with that part of my reply, on to the next part:

DS not doing enything new? Are you kiddin´? There is no where that the PSP give you so many NEW ways of playing with the known types of franchise characters in their respective gameworlds as on the DS. And that´s just the start! We haven´t seen nothing yet! Sony and PSP ARE rehashing the same gameplay over and over again, and which has people tired of it after a short time looking to the next game on the short list of PSP games so far on offer.

Also, the DS is far cheaper to develope for, as opposed to the PSP which is a developer nightmare, as it is a portable Ps2 demanding huge leaps in graphical power that drain batteries fast. This means less playtime, and more annoying battery-changes/-purchases, not to mention high-cost original 1. party games that will be scarce - expensive as they are to make and leaving the rest to third-parties who will mostly just directly port their existing games library over to the machine (or just slightly enhancing certain of them in various ways). But that is still nothing compared to DS, and what it will boast as per gameplay innovation in upcoming games. The developers love it, and they will make full use of it´s awesome possibilities. DS winns!

Silks: It's more the potential than the actual stuff delivered so far but I'm damn sure we'll see some quite original games on the DS, though perhaps not from Nintendo. Devs love to experiment and with that many lined up you can bet that at least some of them are allowed to experiment, especially considering the reviewers' attitude of "everything must use the mic and touchscreen". The DS follows what gamers demand (less emphasis on graphics, fresh gameplay) at least in hardware design and has a MUCH higher chance of seeing interesting new titles than the PSP. I doubt they'll sell but gamers don't care whether their games have mass appeal.

The fat that they are the same franchises doesn't preclude the existence of innovation, in addition totally new games like Another code will be coming as well.

what the DS is doing right is offering a fun new way of playing games, too bad many traditional gamers' are programmed against recognizing fun anymore.  the DS is attracting many people who used to play games before they went to 3d; it is resurecting an extinct market.  i too have witnessed girls playing the DS and enjoying it, its communication abilities will take it far in the future with a smaller redesign and more numbers of units sold allowing for messaging.

what it has done wrong is that it is presently doomed to franchise hell and hasn't shown off that key game that uses the stylus that makes the system a must have.

Nemo_83, your Revolution-controller sketches are impressive! Did you find inspiration for it through rumours about it off the internet?

I am happy, though, to hear that you saw people enjoy playing the DS. And I agree that we need to see unique software taking full advantage of the touchscreen. So Ninty´s got work at hand. But I am sure they´re on to it even as I write this, as is more than 100 other developers. I am still preplexed though as to why they launched the DS without  more compelling software. The sales numbers clearly indicate that people are content with one or two games. So why the apparent rushed launch? Perhaps it takes so damn long to make the games that make the difference show?

Something had to fill the space of the face buttons and dpad; I figured that a trackball was worth ditching the dpad and then surrounded it with a wheel.  Ultimately I placed buttons on the wheel and came up with the button wheel lock allowing you to fix the wheel in any position you find more benefitting so it doesn't slip when you pound on a button.  I had read several rummors about a trackball, but it took the wheel idea for me to be sold on it as a posibility.  It all seemed like it would make sense for a system called Revolution.

The most striking thing I felt about the design was the way it radiates from the center where the thumb rests on the trackball rather than creating a mold with parts like shelves, prongs, and bridges and then tacking on the input mechanics afterwards.  I tried to let the form radiate from the center like a shell, similar to the golden mean.

It shall be quite interesting then, to see just how close you are to the actual Revolution controller design, once it is revealed - hopefully at E3 this year!

I downright expect something way cool which´ll blow us all away!

I've been trying to get into their minds, try to think what Nintendo would do.  Why they would call it revolution.  I've been concentrating on the mechanics of the controller, but E3 may come and the whole controller may be covered with touch screen, even the buttons.  The controller may explode into flashes when you fire a gun or lightning strikes in the game.  Or glow red and animate smoke across its surface if the barrel gets hot in the game.  Everything but the joysticks would double function as a big touch screen.  The developer could put any picture or animation they wanted on the controllers.  This would all work well with new output devices in the controller like speakers, buzzers, and hot/cold generators.  The trackball should be clear.

Here is something more, to fuel your speculations on the design of the Revolution controller:

The complete list of the latest "Revolution"-rumours...

Tell me what you think!

Just one thing I forgot: we should probably go over to another area to discuss this matter further, as this is supposed to be only about NDS!
