I think Neo is right I think I heard that the Saturn was in fact more powerful than PSone but it was so hard to program for that it didn't really matter.

So hence the hardware was crap. Take a game like Smackdown VS RAW 2007 for PS2 - for a current gen game it looks absolutely incredible - it looks better than probably 95% of Xbox 1 games, but it took THQ 5+ years to acheive that kind of beauty on the system, mainly due to the PS2 being so damn difficult for developrers to get everything they want out of it.

Tecmo's whateverhisfirstnameis Itagaki, who was an excellent developer, said he himself would program for Saturn over Playstation to this day.

He also said he likes making his team work on difficult consoles and he'd appreciate if the PS3 was more difficult to use than the PS2.

EDIT: oops, I think that was Kojima, not Itagaki. Perhaps his goal is just to make 95% of the games not use the full power of the system so when his games do everyone lauds them for their great graphics.

The fact that DS has conquered backwards world shows that Nintendo is on an unstoppable roll.  Sony and Microsoft should just give up now.

Edit: although in all seriousness, I think Nintendo's willingness to follow through on less-popular systems like N64 and GameCube is one of the things that separates it from Sega (i.e. hardware failure): it shows the consumers that they can count on Nintendo's support right to the bitter end, even if the third parties drop out.

Sega Master System kthx

Although I concede that they did pull the plug on 32X, Saturn, and Dreamcast early.. but that was after supporting multiple "less-popular" consoles for quite a while.

Nintendo will own everyone forever.

Hey, Tingle actually did pretty well.. And Square is acting so dumb - after months of ragging on Nintendo to up their DS shipments in time for FFIII, they themselves undership the game.

I am amazed at how much Nintendo is dominating Japan right now. Wii has Japan, especially after how Sony screwed up the launch so badly. Anyway Tingle RPG did pretty good, though I was half expecting it to be the next big sleeper hit that sells 1mil+. Heh, guess I was wrong.

especially considering that the online part of the game is so broken that Sega has taken it down and won't put it back up until like early 2007.  I don't remember where I read this so sorry, no linkie.

Actually, IIRC, Sega realized Nintendo had dominance over the American market, so they sold marketing rights to teh SMS to Tonka.  I agree Sega did pull the plug early on many of their systems.  I believe another reason they failed in the long run would be due to their emphasis on hardware.  It's easy to point to the Sega CD, and the 32X, but many people don't know many of Sega's other blunders, including: 2 Genesis redesigns, the Nomad (portable Genesis), the X'eye/Wondermega (Genesis/Sega CD hybrid), and the CDX (PORTABLE Genesis/Sega CD hybrid) among others.

Great news - now hopefully it holds steady and it didn't just spike because of the DS Lite and Mario.. Speaking of Mario, what do you think its worldwide figures are? If it's 3 mil in Japan and 1.2 mil here, it could well be at 5.5 - 6 million worldwide. That's amazing; it's only been out a few months..

Microsoft must be really disappointed with the 360 though - this is its top market and it still isn't really selling much at all.

I think DS Lite will pick up the minute the Black and Pink versions are released.  I personally think Nintendo will follow the colors of RAZR phones(well, I guess white instead of silver is different, but from now on).

Actually, I'm suprised there isn't a pink ipod nano or video yet.
