I still don't understand what happened to FFXII. I'm sure there's a logical explanation, maybe a shortage or industrial sabotage or another Godzilla attack or something.

Those are JPN only numbers, right? Last I saw, both Lumines and GTA: LCS were in a million-range.

Japan numbers... and Lumines is nowhere near a million. About 200k in Japan, don't know about the US, a bit higher I think. GTA is over a million worldwide.

With Mother 3 on top, Nintendo is clearly betting on the wrong horse.  DS should be tossed in the garbage and Nintendo should release a new version of the GBA, pronto.

maybe its just that the consumers have decided they like the lite better, and its in greater supply.

Seriously, why would anyone buy a regular DS now?  I guess it may be a little cheaper, but the Lite seems to be superior in almost every way.

It's possible some smaller places have stopped carrying original DS altogether in favor of the Lite. Like how after the SP came out it wasn't too long before a lot of places stopped having original model GBAs.

Or the Lite is now in greater supply that they don't need to substitute the original DS when out buying.

Also GBA SP and GBM sales went up almost as much as DS went down, thanks to Mother 3.

wasnt Nintendo's plan to make the DS discontinued eventually and make the Lite  the official version?

I thought they were going to keep both versions alive... Maybe they are putting their focus on manufacturing DS Lites and are just trying to meet demand... Once the sales start to slow down (if ever) they will have more DS'.

I doubt it, considering we are still seeing GBAs sell at this stage in the game after the GBA SP being on the market for such a long time.

I think they've said the DS Phat will be gone by next year, though I could be mistaken.

There's no point to keep making both the DS and the DS Lite. My guess is as soon as the US version launches (or Euro), then production of the standard DS will completely end.

Seeing as how they're the only way you can play GB and Color games, and the GBASP is still the all-around best portable ever, I'll have to disagree.

If Nintendo made the DS right, you would be able to play all GameBoy games on it, and not just GBA games.

lol

The GBA may be the best current way to play old GB & GBC games, the GBA in the US is competing with the DS, not complimenting it.

Err... if the DS didn't play GBA games, then wouldn't it be directly competing with the GBA/SP?  The fact that they both play GBA games makes the GBA/SP the basic model and the DS the delxue model...  Some people will look for a GBA, find the DS and get it because it plays GBA games.  Others will get the GBA, then decide later to get a DS because they already have a collection of games that'll play on it.
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.
