jason: Dunno about the monster (I suppose you refer to the modified cutscene?) but Gamespy says the game benefits greatly from lacking FMVs, especially during combat. Also they're using the first one's combat system all the way through.

Total DS hardware = 209,274
Total PSP hardware = 36,943
209,274/36,943= 5.7

Nintendo whooped Sony's ass by nearly a 6:1 ratio

Sadly if you compare the Gamecube weekly to PS2's, Sony whooped Nintendo's ass 22:1

Although 1492 (Gamecube sales) was the year Colombus "discovered" America...maybe America will discover the Gamcube this week. What the Hell am I talking about?

I was referring to the monster at the end of the scene where the cyborgs or whatever they are (the big guy and the little girl that uses magic) escape from that base (it's been a LONG time since I played it). The last monster has a giant penis-shaped protrusion coming out of his groin that's almost the size of his entire upper body. It's not apparent from the view during the battle (from the angle you can't tell if it's a protrusion of just his torso), but when he dies he keels over and you get a really good view of it umm... flopping.

Seems like without the FMV the games would be much shorter, but I guess that's why they're giving you both games. I'm considerably less interested in the FMV for the sequels since they changed KOS-MOS's appearance so much from the original game.

And lets hope it will finally catch up to PSP in sales... considering it's been outselling DS for over 2 months now.

They've changed everyone's appearance. Shion looks like she just escaped from Final Fantasy.

Japan seems to only go for one system as the market leader, with everything else significantly behind. DS has started to pull away now and is the clear handheld market leader. It's going to be interesting to see how PS3 and Revolution can co-exist.

Sneaking? I ran around and made the biggest pile of dead guards possible.

You can play the game however you want, which includes coming up behind a guard and choking him to death, which is eerily satisfying in a way that it shouldn't be...

That's true, and it's all I did when I played any of the MGS games, but it gets incredibly boring incredibly fast. Plus about 70% of the game is wasted on cutscenes where they use top secret military terms like "the X button" or "press select".

Yeah, TONS of cutscenes, but it could get pretty funny in some scenes.

Yes but that still requires sneaking until you are close to the target.

You can actually circle them until you're behind them, then choke them, or for a surefire method, punch them down, and stand behind them as they're getting up.

Two of the top 5 games of this year are "non games". Two of the top 5 games are online, and both are made by Nintendo. Four of the top five are portable games. Four of the top five are Nintendo titles. 8 million portables were sold versus just over 2 million consoles.

And there are people who still insist the Japanese market isn't changing.

But... but it's not the Japanese market that's important here. Well maybe it is, but what's actually important is the US market... I mean, the US console market. Yeah. That's what Nintendo needs in order to survive.

The reason the japanese market is important is because unlike the US videogaming has been in decline for a while now. And Nintendo is primarily a Japan based company. I'm sure if they fail in Japan they could fail in the US and Europe.

And the other reason sales of the DS is important is because the DS symbolizes a major Nintendo strategy plan and that is that you get a bigger audience when you offer new and unique games that appeal to everybody. The DS is a phenomenon thanks to this and could do great wonders with the Revolution if done right.

Plus most of Nintendo's key third party developers are Japanese as well, so they make the bulk of their games primarily for the Japanese market, and then import what they think will sell in the US after the fact.

It's clear that they realize that, in the US, you can sell a console based on insecurity alone.

With no doubt many games which will turn the Rev into a gun/sword toting experience, the console has huge potential to become insanely popular with the older crowd in a hurry.

The controller doubles as the handle of a sword or gun. Doesn't get much more mature than that...

Good point.

Unsanctioned 3rd party games could become miiiighty interesting with the Revmote...
