ARMORED CORE 4 360 2000
ARMORED CORE 4 PS3 1400
A 360 game sold more than the PS3 counterpart?  Unheard of.  (Although, the sales are so low does it even matter?)
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Sorry guys but I need to rant at the PSP again. Last weeks Media Create hardware

1. NDS   -    97,369
2. PSP   -    96,159
3. WII   -    84,530

DS has about a million games in the top 30, even Wii has heaps, PSP has basically no games there ever, yet it sells like this? I flat out do NOT believe it. If this is the case then PSP is the worst thing to EVER happen to the videogame industry. Sony has to be paying off someone to make up these numbers, or even further paying people to buy PSPs in a scheme to get Monster Hunter 3 to be ported to PSP. I do not believe the piracy numbers are THAT high, and that so many people are willing to invest so much in that ugly piece of crap just to play NES games. Lowlifes buying it to watch porn on is a possibility, but aren't there a million cell phones that can do that too? Could PSP be $5 there? This is the most dodgy thing i've ever seen. 3 in 4 new PSP owners are buying NO games with it. Can ANYONE explain it? We have to get to the bottom of this

I wouldn't underestimate the piracy element. Also, doesn't Japan have some TV adapter, phone adapter, and a GPS thing for the PSP? Maybe  people are buying it for those reasons, and to surf the net. Maybe even type up business reports and do spreadsheets on it too. *shrug*

I guess another possibility is that Sony is buying its inventory back and reshipping it so that it inflates the numbers and makes the PSP look like a successful system, when actually it isn't. Or maybe they are just reporting shipments instead of sales figures again... *shrug*

Japan has a rather large used game market. Not that PSP owners are buying any games to return to then be re-bought as used, but some of the old games may be getting recycled through all the PSP owners, until all 30 copies of whatever has sold has been owned at one time or another by every PSP owner.

Also don't forget that all the PSP Phat owners are also upgrading to the PSP Slim so that they can use the TV-Out option.

TV-tuner, GPS, phone adapter, Piracy, etc etc. have already been mentioned, but I can't think of any other excuses.

Maybe Sony is having some sort of mail-in rebate where you buy one PSP Slim and get on for FREE.

Well DS can do most of that stuff too, and there was a DS redesign as well but it still sells lots of games. The used game market is an interesting point I never thought of and could explain it.

But used games can't be the explanation, because that would be just as applicable to the DS (as well as all other systems). That is, unless PSP owners are more likely to buy used games and then return them than owners of other systems.... but why would that be?

I think BlackNMild is right... people are still upgrading their PSP Phats. But if that's the explanation, why are they bothering to upgrade and still not buy games? Something is definitely fishy here, and given Sony's past dishonesty I wouldn't be surprised if they've been fudging the numbers up somehow.

PSP Slim has TV-Out & PSP also uses Mem-Sticks to hold photos, videos, movies, games, music, etc. etc. etc.
With your now upgraded PSP Slim you can now display all of that on your Big Screen TV for all to see.
Why would you need to buy games?
You probably already have them all on your mem-sticks along with all our other media that you care to use your PSP for.

You have to admit the PSP is especially prone to piracy because unlike other systems you don't need to chip it or anything. All it needs is a firmware thing. Aside from that, the PSP is already piracy enabled. The portability factor is also great, because now you can take your pirated games with you on the go.

Another reason why we shouldn't underestimate piracy, is because it is extremely widespread. Almost everyone who has ever touched a computer has pirated something at one time or another, even if it was just an MP3. So its not like this would be limited to just a handful of computer geeks living in their parent's basement. Even grandma and grandpa know how to pirate these days.

Media Create doesn't have NSMB on it at all, but here on Famitsu it is lingering on at 24 with a piddly 7,500 sold during the week. Whichever source is correct, I fear that game's reign of terror has come to an end.

BOth sources are as corrct as the other, jthey just track slightly different sources more accuarately.
But I'm sure NSMB will get another Big boost from the next big game that draws people into the stores.
(Japan is playing SSBB as we speak, maybe a few DS's were picked up along with NSMB... or maybe not)

Now that NSMB is waning in popularity it might be a good time for Nintendo to start considering NSMB2. A 5 million+ seller in Japan alone absolutely warrants a sequel.

ATTENTION. I have found a clue as to why the PSP sells so well in Japan yet has very little game sales. From, of all things, an interview with Hiro Nakamura:

Quote

Were you able to check out what's new in games in Japan?

I found some PlayStation 3 titles in Japan that I'm looking forward to. The Thousand Day War looked really good. They also had a lot of interesting Nintendo DS stuff, which made me want to use my DS more. In Japan, if you have a PSP, it's more than just a gaming device. You can download all of this stuff. In America, you don't have that. And in Japan you have so many mobile applications that we don't have here.

This confirms the DS was just a fad, and that people in Japan have finally realized the touch screen was just a gimmick. Took them 4 years, but better late than never, I suppose.
