And if import games ever become a reality, I would love to see X, the first game boy game with 3-d graphics.
X was released in Japan in 1992.  FaceBall 2000 was released in 1991.

I am shamed.... :-[

BTW, uncle bob, could you take me under your wing in the ways of gameboy fandom?  Did you know that the NES and the original Game Boy use the same size buttons?  Try it! I know you've got a tri wing screwdriver...

Stratos, it seems you keep coming up with different games to nominate for the RetroActive. Shouldn't you find just one to pick and rally behind? Also I literally just beat Wario World yesterday and I don't know if I'd want to play it again so soon.

I think part of the issue for me is that Jonny never updates the master list on the first page so I never know if a game is accepted for the list or not. If I had a clear yes or no then I could rally behind said game until there was a definitive answer. As it stands we'll never know until it appears in a poll. Also, I just like throwing out ideas of what might work for the segment. I almost don't care what is played because I've decided to play every game that is in RetroActive.

Yeah, just like double dragon.
Double Dragon (NES I'm assuming) isn't really 3D, as the game engine is two-dimensional and it has some tricks to sort of seem like it's 3D. The movement doesn't actually have any depth; you can't move toward or away from the screen, it's only horizontal or vertical movement. Wario World's game engine is entirely three-dimensional, as are the graphics. Though I don't know what point you're trying to make as the two games have nothing in common.

If Wario World were expansive then it just would have been Super Mario 64 with Wario. Super Wario 64. It needed to be a little more unique, and its pseudo-sidescrolling style is what makes it feel like a 3D Wario Land game with a few things here and there to spice things up so it feels like its own game as well. That's just my thoughts on the game anyway.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that Wario World disappoints me.  It's still a good game, but I think it could have been a bit more ambitious in it's design.  It's truly just a matter of the product leaving me unsatisfied,  after this though I feel like I should give it another chance.

And Double Dragon and Wario World have a few things in common. You move in all available directions (regardless of graphical tricks), you jump, and you punch guys in both. :)

Speaking of double dragon, I hope they release the gameboy one that was actually a kunio-kun game but with different graphics.  I had it when I was a kid and it was sweet.

I can see how Wario World could be disappointing, especially if you were hoping for something more grand. My only real problem with it is that it is quite short; it probably took my longer to complete Wario Land II. If I had paid full price for it I'd have likely felt gypped.

If you reduce any game to its basics, you'll find that lots of games have things in common. In Super Mario 64, you move in all available directions, you jump, and you can punch enemies. Lots of platforming games have such elements.

1. Tennis
Probably still the best tennis video game ever. They'd better not do anything silly and colourise it for re-release.

2. Wario Land III
I loved Wario Land 1 and 2 but for whatever reason I never played the next two. So I want it on the machine because it's probably impossible to legally obtain any other way these days.

3. Advance Wars
The sequel upset the balance a bit, leaving Advance Wars an essentially flawless game.

4. The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
I know this has been brought up upteen times in the thread already but it really has to be said; this game is adorable. Everything about it is so disarmingly charming, from Marin to stealing from the shop keeper to Bow Wow to Kiki and that ghost. Did you know I had a partially complete, buggy port of this on my calculator? So cool. It'd be nice if it had scrolling though.

5. Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town
This is, by far, the biggest portable game ever. It's the final evolution of the original Harvest Moon formula. There is just so much **** you can do that Natsume presumably have not bothered to improve it further, instead opting for interesting diversions like Rune Factory and disgusting experiments like It's A Wonderful Life!

I think I had that calculator game. It was pretty impressive. I could never make games that good on my TI-83 though I really tried.

Virtual Boy Wario Land.

No, it's not for GB/GBA, it's the only "portable" game I don't have that I'd care to buy through this service (and it'll save me $70+ on ebay). Otherwise, I'll stick with new downloadable games... Of course, if Nintendo were to get Sega to jump on board with Game Gear games, specifically the ones that Sega never brought to North America which were like, what, all of the good/interesting ones (namely Phantasy Star Gaiden), I'd be at least... okay, not that much more interested, but a little more interested.

I've got VB Warioland.  It's great.

We should have a thread like RetroActive where we all play the VB Wario Land. There are a number of us that have the game.

1) Quarth - It's really fun.  Seriously!

2) Pokemon Trading Card Game - Not going to happen, but in my dreams, I can live on Mars, buy expensive cars and have it my way.

3) Donkey Kong - Growing up, I knew a kid that had this, and I was always deeply envious of his game-having skills.  I need closure.

4) Metroid 2 - Regardless of its quality, I want to play through it.  I always felt like I was only getting half the story in Super Metroid.

5) That Kid Icarus Game - Because.  It's a Kid Icarus game.

1. Mother 3- Not going to happen, but I can dream.

2. Pokemon Pinball- I hear lots of praise for it, but I never got a chance to play it. I enjoyed Metroid pinball, so I'd like to try another nintendo themed pinball game.

3. Mario Land 2- This was the game I wanted when I got my gameboy. I remember that it was a lot of fun, but I never got a chance to beat it.

4. Advance Wars- Never got a chance to play the series, so it would be nice to have easy access to the first one.

5. Pokemon Red and Blue- Yes, they've been remade, but I wouldn't mind playing the very old games just to reminisce playing them for the first time.

Mario Land 2 had a pretty difficult and unique final boss from the typical Mario series.

Also, Pokemon Pinball was a pretty fun game.  The Gameboy had a surprisingly great amount of Pinball games.  I think there was a sequel to Pokemon Pinball on the Gameboy advance...I played that version and I would suggest that is the game to play.

I disagree, I found it to be a bit boring :P and the final boss overly frustrating :P
