Nintendo Gaming / The Wii Box

Hey Guys,  Just wondering and it is a stupid topic but how come the Wii box is bigger than the Gamecube box?  Isnt the Wii suppose to be the smallest home console that Nintendo has ever made?  Wii Remote and Nunchuck are not that big...

Nintendo Gaming / RE: LAN Parties
« on: October 10, 2006, 09:43:11 PM »
yeah LAN parties are awesome!!  I just went to a HALO LAN party the other day and it rocked!! Not just because the game is good but because the interaction between all these people in the room talking smack.  I wonder if developers even think about this type of connection anymore besides for the DS and PSP.  Chances of Nintendo having Wii game that have Local LAN support seem to be slime to none.  I would say Farcry, Red Steel or MP3:C would have a chance to support this.

Hmm I wonder if they were connected by Local LAN or WiFi connection.  Maybe it was connected through local LAN since they didnt mention anything aboute wifi during that time...anyhoo good observation on that.   Having a local LAN party would total kick ass, think about it Mario Kart LAN, Super Smash Bros LAN, that would rock .

Hey Guys, Has Nintendo mention anything about local LAN connection?  I know they spoke about the WiiConnect24 and how you could connect to others over the internet, but what about hooking up a few game locally for a LAN party?  Wil this work the same way the DS local LAN works or will it be supported at all?

Nintendo Gaming / RE: So what does everyone think of the 250 price tag?
« on: October 04, 2006, 04:36:53 PM »
Just a thought,  While at Circuit City, browser for some new electronics just for the heck of it, I overheard a potential consumer speaking to a customer rep, asking, "why this brand is cheaper than that brand if it does the same thing".  So you get the idea that a lot of people that don't normally pay attention to tech look at the price and convert it into "quality".  If its too cheap, they might question themselves...,"why is this cheap, might be because its cheap quality"  In this case maybe the 50 dollars less then an x360, which currently has a rep for bad ass graphics and latest cool tech, is a psychological marketing approach.  Rep, "The Wii looks awesome exterior wise, it has a cool remote!!" Mom, "What about the graphics?" Rep, It's not that bad, it doesnt have the raw power for the x360, but it has other features to make up for it!  Mom looks at the price of x360 core pack, looks at the Wii's price.  Mom, thinking to herself, "yeah it's only 50 dollars cheaper, must be as good...plus I would be saving 50 bucks"  Mom: okay I'll take one!!  Big win for Nintendo!!!

Hey I'm just saying...

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Studios acquiring other studios
« on: October 02, 2006, 04:01:25 PM »
That's right Kairon!  I see you really keep track on Nintendo Developers.  I guess you do see my point.  Acquiring for the sake of owning a studio with a name doesnt produce to much in the long run.  As you mentioned HAL's SSBM director Nintendo building a team for him to work with is something that a lot of studio should see as strategy.  Get those talents, forget spending 23million on a studio for name sake.  I know there are advantages and reason behind these purchases somewhere...but if it were me.  I'd build a team for a Guest-talented developer thats proven.

Im not trying to pick on Rare, I'm just trying to make a point.  As Kairon pointed out, if EA were to buy Maxis without Will Wright in the package, what kind of deal will that get.  I guess my issue is that getting a studio just for the name is absolutely troubling.  Rare Kameo, is not as great as it could have been,  It's not garbage its not great, its like the little the little bear's porridge, somewhere in between.

Hey Guys,

So Just found out today that EA bought out DICE, and Foundation 9 got the Shiny (popular for Earthworm Jim, Enter the Matrix).  These are all cool mergers and purchases, but what does a studio alone offer?  Just the name...I mean look at Rare.  That's a huge name in the video game industry but after being bought out by microsoft, what have they produced.  I guess what I'm saying is that, maybe companies should invest in talent.  Buying the studio alone doesnt grant a great product if all the talent left the studio, which is Rare's case.  Studios should focus on getting the " Jordans, Iversons, Kobe, Shaq"  That's my feel for it.  I'm not saying the talent that DICE have left or the Shiny but that alot of buying and selling is based on the name brand.  Is it to buy the public out?  I don't know...what do you guys think.  Btw heres a link Shiny Get
