LAN Parties
« on: October 10, 2006, 09:12:06 PM »
Hey Guys, Has Nintendo mention anything about local LAN connection?  I know they spoke about the WiiConnect24 and how you could connect to others over the internet, but what about hooking up a few game locally for a LAN party?  Wil this work the same way the DS local LAN works or will it be supported at all?

The only mention I have heard at all of LAN is During one of IGN's video demos of Wii games (I believe BWii and Mario Soccer at Leipzig) Fran was playing the game against some else across the room who was on a different wii.

Hmm I wonder if they were connected by Local LAN or WiFi connection.  Maybe it was connected through local LAN since they didnt mention anything aboute wifi during that time...anyhoo good observation on that.   Having a local LAN party would total kick ass, think about it Mario Kart LAN, Super Smash Bros LAN, that would rock .

yeah LAN parties are awesome!!  I just went to a HALO LAN party the other day and it rocked!! Not just because the game is good but because the interaction between all these people in the room talking smack.  I wonder if developers even think about this type of connection anymore besides for the DS and PSP.  Chances of Nintendo having Wii game that have Local LAN support seem to be slime to none.  I would say Farcry, Red Steel or MP3:C would have a chance to support this.

I'm convinced Halo's popularity is based on the fact that it is popular over a lan. Game enjoyment increases by the amount of local players participating. I.E, Gauntlet with four players = 400% more fun.

I'd hope so. LAN gaming is so much more enjoyale than online gaming. Online gaming is only acceptable because it's so convenient.

To me it goes LAN gaming,
Single Console Multiplayer Gaming,
and finally
Online Gaming.

To me, it feels void of any real human interaction when you are home alone talking to an online person.  LAN and Single Console you have direct interaction with the losers you are beating...or beating you.

At the NYC event, BWii was hooked up multiplayer by an ethernet cord.  I actually asked if it was communicating wirelessly and the rep showed me the cord.

LAN's better because for the most part you don't have to interrupt the game to interact with your competitor.
