Nintendo Gaming / RE:Do you regret getting RE 4 on Cube?
« on: June 29, 2007, 11:56:22 AM »
I'll try the quick 180 turn to see how it goes.

We are talking about the game.  I would appreciate it if you don't try to attack the person.

Now, about the shooting while moving, I didn't complain about that.  It's only natural to be able to move sideways.  For example, to enter into rooms without compromising yourself.  There are ways to improve controls, and RE 4 plays unnaturally sluggish.

I've tried the Cube controls.  The camera visibility is better on the Cube controller.  The aiming is better on the Wii remote.

For me, the bad side is that I cannot feel in control.  You struggle to get to position him and you struggle in trying to survive.  No quick 180 degree turn, no strafe.  Leon is clearly not a trained operative at all.

I will wait for RE: UC because I hear it's a light gun game.  I'm never picking up the conventional RE games again.

I finally got Resident Evil 4 on Wii and the one thing I regret is having to have bothered getting it.  I can now understand the issues and I don't know if the Cube version helps.  So all I can say is I regret getting the Wii version.

To RE4 cube owners,

I was wondering, with Resident Wiivil coming, do you regret plucking down the cash for the Cube version?  Would you buy the Wii Edition knowing it's a Wii port of the game you once owned?  If you are, are you expecting the controls to enhance or detract?

You have a point there.  I just really hope we see something like Jade Empire on Wii... that would be excellent.  Maybe LucasArts' secret Wii game might turn out to be an rpg, but that's hoping for the unlikely.

I think it's very clear the library on CRPGs isn't very healthy on Wii.  SoV, I'm afraid is not a solution... even if the game was recommended by every gamer in the universe, my lack of a hot spot prevents my Wii from ever touching online.

I do wish that Nintendo would allow people to download and pay through PC... transfer them via SD cards into the Wii... but piracy looms where the PC is accessible.

I'll adjust, thanks ShyGuy.

Yes, I do mean a more D&D sense of things.  And exactly not "watch pretty cutscenes..."

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Bootleg DS games on eBay?
« on: June 11, 2007, 08:02:12 PM »
I reckon bootleg DS games do come with their own game boxes, so it's not a real solution.  The labelling is a bit shoddy on bootlegged ones so that's your best bet on figuring out if they are selling fakers.

It's funny because I have Excite Truck and Godfather.  Excite Truck is really a crazy racing game, and it's their to satisfy that.  Hmm... it does seem like RPGs aren't very plentiful on Wii...

Yeah, CRPGs like NWN... so far, we've both hit upon Marvel Ultimate Alliance which well... I don't think I want it.  I guess we'll have to wait for E3 to hear some stuff coming.

On driving, I'm trying to shy away from NFS: Carbon.  The previous NFS games weren't exactly to my liking.  The Indy game might be interesting, but I don't want to drive in a loop.  Tracks like Hockenheimring or Spa Francorchamps would be a huge plus for me.  I was thinking of GT Pro Series, but it looks so much like Automodellista...

On Hajime no Ippo, yeah I'm also looking very closely at the title.  I would think it has some possibility of getting a US release... (IGN has the US title listed in the game section, but that is hardly an official confirmation).

Okay, I think I should be clearer.

I was hoping to find an RPG for Wii made by Western developers.  I see a lot of stuff like Fire Emblem and they aren't my kind of stuff.

On #3, Hajime no Ippo is the boxing sim that is going to hit stores in Japan around July, I think.

Here's a Japanese video trailer on it.

Nintendo Gaming / Finally succumbed to the Wii, some questions
« on: June 11, 2007, 02:59:56 PM »
It was long, but I finally slapped the money for one.  Last time I checked supplies here were okay, but were quickly disappearing which is no real news.  Interestingly, both the US and Japan Wii systems are appearing on stores.

I have some games, not a lot I reckon.  I have some mixed reactions from the games but some of them I really like.  And going back to those GC games are really cool.

Question is...

1.  Are there any decent WESTERN rpgs around?
2.  Are there any driving sims on Wii?
3.  Is Hajime no Ippo getting a US localization?

Thanks a lot!

General Gaming / Gamecube Preservation Guidelines?
« on: April 03, 2006, 04:21:19 PM »
Hi,

I got my Gamecube fixed and was informed that the lens is about to conk out.  I will probably have the lens replaced when my GC finally breathes its last.

I would like to ask you forum users for guidelines on how to keep the machine humming along.  This goes before and after the replacement.  I'd like to see my Gamecube lasting as long as my DC, which is still active since 1999 .

What's the best way to clean the lens?  Do you even clean the lens at all?  Storage tips... ANYTHING to keep my GC alive.

Question...

Is the plugs and slots the same as the ones on the GC?

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Revolution vs XBOX360 vs PS3
« on: May 18, 2005, 04:58:42 PM »
Honestly, I think PS 3 is still the machine to beat... I'm not buying it though.  Xbox 360 is going to be a very good multimedia appliance and the PS 3 is going to be about games, the games that are known to come out on Sony's flagship and nowhere else...

and I have had rants on GC before... but seeing what Rev is about... I'm having my reservations... I want to see more of what it's all about.  Go Revolution!

It maybe a confirmed fact, but anything can happen from now until Revolution finally releases.

And...

my gamecube is back from the dead.  Now to scout for games...

Gotta question too on maintenance... how do I clean the lens?

stevey:  try to get Ninty to repair it... that is... if they actually notice you.

Everyone:  getting it repaired.  I'll pick it up today and see if it actually works.  Haven't touched it for ages.  Cross the fingers and hope for the best.

I thank you for all the responses people.  Right now, my stand against the next gen consoles.  That also covers Rev.

I'm contemplating on emulators... but as always... it's frowned upon and it isn't working well anyway.  I don't know... maybe I'll have to fly to Japan soon.

Yes, I've heard of that.  We'll see when Rev actually comes out.

I love Nintendo for the quality of their software.  I'm just really pissed at my GC and perhaps, at this misfortune.

I'm sorry... what I meant was 'next gen' console...  sorry for the misunderstanding.

You know... it's okay.

Japan is the one covering the Asia area.  Unfortunately, the only way to reach them is through this web-based form, and apparently, it's in Japanese... what little Jap I know tells me the form applies only in Japan.  Nintendo US has better means of communication... and I was at least hoping they'd help me find a way to contact Japan.  Obviously, they don't know anything.  And trying to contact Japan has turned out to be a crummy deal.

It's all in the past.  I have an orange paperweight.  And honestly, getting a new console is furthermore out of my vocabulary now that I have experienced what's it like to buy expensive games and cannot play them.

JPN GC and in the Phil... I don't care if GC isn't the top console here... I love it.  Now that it's a paperweight... hmm... not sure.

Hi guys.  Nice to hear all of your gamecubes work.  Mine still doesn't.  The only answer I get from Ninty US is to contact Japan.  That's because I'm based in Asia.

Japan tells me nothing.  Wow, my gc sits pretty on the table and all I can do is look at it.  Bah.  I'll see if I can find one to buy soon.

Well, everyone has their own experiences with each machine.  Yes, bad eggs, that I can swallow.  But to have Nintendo ignore me everytime I give them a yell about it isn't.

Buying a gamecube... very straightforward, and something I'm not sure I want to do.  I'm gaming off from my pc... although seeing I've spent so much good money on GC games, I feel sorry.  I don't know if I want another one... and have that bog down again.  I sold my n64 in anticipation for the next gen machines... maybe it wasn't a bright idea at all.

My experience of the gamecube has ranged from good, to okay, to bad, and now this... paperweight.

When I had my n64, I never had a problem about hardware stuff conking out.  NEVER.  And with the then, next gen consoles surfacing, I had simply stuck with my nintendo nose and bought myself a GC because of the games it had.  Little did I know that my love for Nintendo would come biting back in full force.

Okay, some games didn't live up to the hype, some did... and I absolutely love my list of GC games... it's just annoying that barely half a year since I bought the system, the games get harder to start up, sometimes having those read problems midway through the game.  I have heard of the lens misalignment stuff, and that I do not dare touch my GC and pretend to be some expert.  By the time my GC reached 1 year old, it was finished.  Nothing would read up, and I had tried to get hold of some Nintendo help, only to get the cold shoulder.

After stuffing it in a corner, one day, it miraculously worked.and I played it for a half a year more before it gave up yet again.  Sending e-mails and a postal mail to both Nintendo US and Japan have proven futile.  Absolutely the last console I will ever buy... I'd still want to play my old stuff here.

If anybody can help my stupid paperweight... any info would be nice.

The irony of having my n64 last 5 years without a hitch and the gc stupidly dying just barely 1+ years old... what frustration!
