Nintendo Gaming / Finished Eternal Darkness tonight...
« on: April 21, 2003, 05:51:45 PM »
Glad to here that you liked it.  Its a shame though, the game only sold about 500k worldwide before the game went to $20.  I would assume its sold quite a bit at that price.  I love the game, bought it the day it was released.  In my top 5 favorite games on Cube, and in the top 20 for all time.  Great game, no one should pass this game up, especially at the price tag its at right now.

I still say hundreds of years, everything in the game points to it being hundreds of years.  Miyamoto rarely pays much attentiontion to story continuality, but I am sure if he or another member of the Zelda team were asked in an interview to clear it up; they would say hundreds of years.

I think we have to remember that nintendo created WW, with the idea that anyone could pick it up and play.  What I mean is, not everyone has played through OoT 20+ times, if you have no past experience, WW could prove to be quite challenging.  By playing OoT and MM, you are now a pro to the Zelda series, and may find it to be a little easy.  I thought it was challenging, not hard, just challenging.  Cant wait for the seqeul.  Still gott finish the Master Quest, so I guess thats next.

I am pretty sure WW takes place, hundreds of years after OoT.  I dont buy the 2nd dimension either, Zelda sent Link back to regain his lost time.  I thought Ganondorf was awsome in this Zelda.  Link did kill him though, without the power of the triforce, he couldnt withstand that blow.  As previously stated, he turned to stone, and is submerged under water.  Will he ruturn?  I think so, wheather it be a powerful wizard bringing him back, or some other twist.  Either way, i would really like to see a direct sequel to WW also, to much is left up in the air, way more than OoT.  Best Zelda game ever?  I really did have my doubts, and my only real complaint, is that I have beaten it already.  I am sure I played 25+ hours, but it just seemed to short for me.  So much of this game looks like anime, like when fighting Gaonondorf.  I would have to say that Wind Waker is now the greatest game to date.

Nintendo Gaming / Where are the cell-shading naysayers?
« on: April 01, 2003, 03:10:00 PM »
People who arent videogame programmers dont realize just how difficult the cel-shaded visuals were to pull off.  It does look like a cartoon.  The animation is great, its runs steady at 30fps, and as always is fun to play.  I know there has been some debate about nintendo using same game engine for the sequel on Cube, I personally belive that it would be a shame if they didnt use it.  Just like Majora's Mask took the OoT engine and improved on it, the sequel to WW can do the same.

Nintendo Gaming / Zelda Lives Up to Hype and More...

Sorry guys, assumed this was info everyone new already.  But seriously, thats a very small peice of info.  If that ruined the game for you, I am sorry, but maybe you should consider staying off the Hyrule board until you beat the game.  Thats what I did after the Japan version was released.  People were talking about it, and thought that I new more than I wanted to, so I didnt read the Zelda post.  As you pla further into the game, I think you will come to see that you experice will not be ruined in the least from the info you read.  But from now on, I will remember to post -Spoilers- when needed.

Nintendo Gaming / New Zelda Gamecube game after Windwaker?
« on: March 30, 2003, 02:41:48 PM »
We probably arent going to here much on the sequel until E3 or later.  WW just came out, I would think E3 would be the very earliest that we will here anything about the sequel.

Nintendo Gaming / Zelda Lives Up to Hype and More...

As far as difficulty goes, I would say its closer to Master Quest's difficulty level than OoT.  Which is a good thing.  I recently played through a part where there are about 25 enemies, the place where you get the master sword, and was very impressed that the game ran silky smooth with that many enemies on screen.  Very fun.  I love the enemies in this game, more so than the ones in OoT.  Majora's Mask was a good Zelda game, but WW is the true sequel, and delivers in all extents.

One more thing I wanted to comment was, Hyrule is huge!  It acutally takes a good bit of time to sail to differant area's.  At time's it can be tedious, but then again it gives you a definate feel of just how large the land of Hyrule really is.  It's amazing at times, I could swear I was watching a cartoon, such as Samari Jack on TV.  The animation is very nice.  Effect are all good.  You can play this game a few minutes at a time.  Every time I have turned it on, I have played at least two hours, some of which is just exploring, and fighting the old man in Link's village.  I like fighting the Bull enemies also, really strong, but no match for Link's speed and agility.  Very happy with WW so far.

I just got done playing WW for a few hours.  I have to say that its getting interesting.  I think that all doubt has been removed on nintendo decision to make Zelda cel shaded.  It would be a shame if the next Zelda on Cube didnt use the same engine.  I have noticed that on my 53inch TV, the game doesnt look quite as smooth as on a 19inch.  I guess that was to be expected, no big deal though, still looks good, and the animation is awsome.  Does anyone else think that this Link could kick the crap out of Link from OoT?  I mean, his sword moves are crazy cool.  And this game runs at a steady 30fps.  I have noticed a few spirts of slowdown here and there, but nothing to get excited over.  So far, I really like it.  Better than OoT?  Wont know until I play it all the way through.

Nintendo Gaming / Why Is Eternal Darkness Regarded So Highly?
« on: March 27, 2003, 04:39:58 PM »
ED is more creepy than scary.  Its not like RE, where things jump out at you and such.  I have heard that if you have surround sound, its the bomb.  If you have really sat down and played for a few hours, multiple times, you would have beaten it.  My first time through, it took me about 10 hours to beat.  This may be one of those games, either you love it, or you just dont care for it at all.  For me, its one of the best games ever.

I love this game.  I felt that, at least when it came out, that it was one of the first games on Cube to fell really complete.  The camera is damn near perfect, and the controls are tight as can be.  The visuals are very nice, especially considering the framerate.  I notice slowdown like no other, and I can say that this game rarely slows down at all.  I felt the story was good, and completely new to me.  The sound effects are great.  I have beaten the game twice now, and am half way through on my third.  I work 40 hours a week, and have noticed that ever since I graduated from high school that my gaming time has been really cut down.  But Eternal Darkness really is a game that you must spend at least an hour every time you sit down to play it, and must play every, or every other day to be really pulled in.  When I first played, I played for 4 hours on a saturday.  Its an awsome game for anyone who has the time to play it.  And its only $20.

Nintendo Gaming / Gamespot gives WW a 9.3, you agree?
« on: March 27, 2003, 11:49:11 AM »
If it got below a 9.0 out of 10.0, then I think they were on crack.  But a 9.3 is a very good score, maybe its a little lower than most others who have reviewed the game, but they may have payed more attention to its short comings, and tried to weigh those in as they saw fit.  I have played the game for a few hours, and am starting to really get into it.  Cant wait to get home from work so I can start playing again.  I would personally give it a 9.5 so far.  Best game out on Cube?  We'll have to wait and see.

I just picked up Tony Hawks 3 for $15 at Best Buy.  I remembered it having framerate issues, and it does, but for some reason its more tolerable than when I first played it.  I guess for $15, I am a little easier on it.  Either way, if your a semi fan of the series, you will have some fun with THPS3.  If your a huge fan of the series, I would go ahead and pick up THPS4 for the extra few bucks.

Nintendo Gaming / Game's that Lost Money?
« on: February 19, 2003, 04:22:51 PM »
Yea, but thats not profit.  The 3-7 million it cost to make the game, has to be made back in profit.  You have to figure out how much they actually make on each peice of software.  Profit is the only thing that matters, you could sell a million copies, but if you profit margine is only 5%, you didnt accumulate much.

Nintendo Gaming / Thinking about getting a GC
« on: February 19, 2003, 04:13:50 PM »
Yea, I say go get one.  The free game deal is to good to pass up.  Also, pick up Eternal Darkness, it will be the best game you have ever bought for $20.  Its one of my favorites of all time, and I paid $50 for it.  With Zelda coming out soon, its a great time to buy a Cube.

Does anyone know if Nintendo and Silikon Knights lost money on Eternal Darkness?  I know that last I heard, it only sold about 500k copeis world wide before the price dropped.

Nintendo Gaming / OoT and Master Quest Discussion
« on: February 17, 2003, 02:05:34 PM »
I picked up my bonus disk today, and and very pleased with it.  It looks so much cleaner from running in high res, and slowdown doesnt seem to be as bad either.  Master Quest is pretty cool, I have finished the Deku Tree temple, and it was alot differant than in OoT.  After beating OoT 20 times, its kinda crazy seeing everything changed up.  Its a very nice gift from nintendo.....

Nintendo Gaming / OoT and Master Quest Discussion
« on: February 16, 2003, 04:32:08 PM »
Thats true, if OoT had actually been ported to Cube, like RE2 and RE3 were, then it would run the game a 60fps in high res and never even come close to slowing down, but with an emulator, you basically running one peice of software, in order to run another, and good emulators can take a chunk of processing power.  Oh well, from the way it sounds, its not a big problem at all.

Nintendo Gaming / Zelda game after windwaker
« on: February 14, 2003, 02:12:36 PM »
I agree that the next Zelda game on Cube should also be cel shaded.  As previously stated, it would be a waste to discard it after one use.  Just like MM was very similar in look and style to OoT, the next Zelda should keep WW's engine.  I dont know how much they can improve the graphics, being that it already looks as good as some cartoons seen on TV.  I think they should have the second Zelda on Cube ready for launch in 2005, something to release against the PS3.

I cant understand why their would be anyslowdown, its a N64 game in high res, Cube shouldnt have any trouble doing that at 60fps.  Either way, its free, so I guess we cant complain to much.  Looking forward to getting my copy on Sunday or Monday.

Nintendo Gaming / OoT and Master Quest Discussion
« on: February 13, 2003, 04:34:18 PM »
I am curious, for those who have the game, how does it play?  I heard that there are still framerate issues, not sur how, but someone said it can get bad at times.  Also, does the high res clean the game up, or highlight the uglies?  I would really appreciate it if someone could fill me in, I cant get my disk till sunday.

Nintendo Gaming / Eternal Darkness $20 at Bestbuy.(Post good deals here)
« on: February 13, 2003, 04:24:37 PM »
My Best Buy is selling Tony Hawks 3 for $15.  I am going to pick it up in the next week or two.  I was gonna get it near launch, but after renting it, and be fairly annoyed with the slowdown, I opted for Star Wars RL.  I cant say I made the wrong decision, but for $15, I dont think I can go wrong.  I am kinda tied up right now with Metroid and RE3, not enough time for more games right now.  Renting games seems rediculous anymore, for the cost of 3 rentals, you can own a game.

Nintendo Gaming / Splinter Cell enhanced for Gamecube.
« on: February 10, 2003, 04:51:37 PM »
Yea, ports arent usually better than the original in terms of graphics and gameplay, being that it was designed on X-box, we can only hope that it ends up being just as good in every possible way.  At least they are taking their time, and arent rushing it.  It will be a nice game to have for the middle of this year.
