General Gaming / Re: Sonic Team cares not for Sonic.
« on: January 17, 2009, 04:36:45 PM »
In all fairness, the Sonic games post "Secret Rings" have been pretty good.

But I do believe Sonic Team needs to take a break from making yearly Sonic games and concentrate on making ONE good effort. You know, like Nintendo does it.

As much as I enjoyed Unleashed they do need to focus on Sonic and JUST Sonic.

I agree Sonic Team should definitely take a break from the yearly Sonic releases and......wait a minute did u just say you enjoyed Sonic Unleashed!?  Na you obviously meant Star Wars the Force Unleashed.......oh wait that was terrible too....ah I know it must've been Jaws Unleashed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDkqZ9px-Dc  ;D

You know I really like the art in this game but all of the gameplay I've seen don't really seem that great.....then again it sort of reminds me of Ico on PS2 and apparently that was a great game.

I'm pretty impressed at what they got so far.....i hope other studios follow their lead.  I especially like those guns that disintegrate enemies.

This was probably being made during the same time THQ started cutting back from some of their other devs like Juice Games.  I think THQ officially ended the Juiced racing series.

Ah lets see they also killed off Helixe, Locomotive Games, Mass Media, Paradigm Entertainment, and Sandblast Games.  All killed off back in November 2008.

Locomotive Games used to be called Pacific Coast Power & Light, the guys that made Road Rash 64 (I had a lot of fun with that game).

Paradigm Entertainment made Pilotwings 64 and Beetle Adventure Racing.

Terrible year for THQ.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: What have you pre-ordered for 2009?
« on: January 13, 2009, 03:41:07 PM »
I haven't preordered anything in a long while either and probably won't be doing so until I get out of unemployment.  I'd find it even harder to even purchase games if it weren't for the fact that I'd gladly eat nothing but ramen, rice, and canned foods.

Hmm i actually really like this series.  It's got a better story, presentation, and use of sound than Final Fantasy Tactics A2.  That review really nails it though, the game isn't really inventive or difficult whatsoever but does everything else decently if not better.  Good review Crimm.

seems like an odd genre for them to be publishing then again they also are publishing TrackMania on the DS, both look good though.

hmm so what nintendo is trying to do is allow me to skip difficult parts of the game by letting the game play itself?  If so that means i could enjoy games like Ninja Gaiden without having to get stuck at parts?  What about like an RPG where you get stuck on a boss and need to grind a bunch before being able to take him down......as much of a punch in the stomach that is for the years I've come accustomed to getting through hard games by myself I think this would be great for the casuals and for the hardcore guys that are just trying to get through those bookcase size backlogs of theirs.

*shakes fist at M. Bison!

at least they didn't copy microsoft's d-pad.

Ever considered quitting gamming and becoming full-time anime otaku?

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

isn't the DS game just a remake of the first Fire Emblem game on NES?  Unfortunately I'm not too interested in it, mainly because the artwork looks so bad.  The GBA ones look way better imo.

I haven't played Radiant Dawn yet, but Titania wasn't good for anything but a meat shield in the GCN game.  Yeah, she was awesome at first, but she has mediocre level-ups compared to lots of other players, and since she was pre-promoted, she took away experience from other characters that really needed it early on.

Has she been changed so much in this second game, or are you guys setting yourselves up for a difficult second half of the game?

I know exactly what you mean, I used her early in the GCN game quite a bit and had the cpu difficulty catch up on my weaker characters.  I had to give all my bonus exp to my weaker characters and then in battle I had to put up a wall of defense for them so they wouldn't die in a single hit or two.  In general you should always lvl up some of the weaker characters, there are a lot of them that lvl up very well in terms of stats.

I still need to finish a lot of backlogged games before i even purchase Radiant Dawn.  Glad you like the game though BlackNMild2k1.

Tournament Fighters on the SNES was pretty good, my friend had the NES one......so sad, lol.  Hey what was the robot turtle called?  Oh and what was that boss character from Turtles in Time in the prehistoric level?  I always liked those bosses, they had the coolest attacks.....cheap but very cool.

I'm enjoying this game so far.  It reminds me A LOT of Mass Effect, to the point where I keep pressing Y to heal myself.  The dialog trees are especially... reminiscent?  I don't want to say "blatant ripoff," but, yeah, you pretty much get three answer choices for questions, one good, one neutral, one evil.  Then you sometimes get answer choices that have to do with your skills, which is similar to the charisma/intimidation in Mass Effect.  Then, of course, there's the whole RPG-shooter hybrid thing going on.

Actually Fallout 1 had pretty much the same dialog tree system and I'm sure it was borrowed from other games so it really doesn't matter.  Oh and yeah I was surprised by a mine too, it was a trap guarding a deserted ammo supply.  Luckily I didn't die but it sure did cripple all of my limbs, ah good times!

I'm not sure how bomberman changed.  I forgot about megaman x, looks a lot cooler I'll give it that.  As for Prince of Persia his latest change, I just don't like.

Anybody else punch everyone unconscious at the vault?  I wanted my first playthrough to be a bit more goody goody, but it seems I've failed.

Well, many people who played an IP for kids when they were young seem to want a grown-up version of the IP when they're in the blood-and-gore age bracket, resulting in games like Shadow The Hedgehog...

Has that ever really worked out?  I can't recall any game character ever going through a transformation like that and coming out for the better.
