Lindy Toggle: On

Sandwiched between our two E3 prediction shows is this fresh slice of regular RFN lunchmeat, featuring New Business and Listener Mail segments. The game discussions kick off with Jon's highly anticipated, minimally informed impressions of Super Mario Galaxy 2. Greg has the scoop on a Japanese demo of Ghost Trick, and he catches up with Kojima's overlooked DS game, Lunar Knights. James has a pair of Eastern-style games with Disgaea DS and Muramasa: The Demon Blade. Jonny caps the segment with the final week of his PS3 monopoly, with muted praise for Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time and first thoughts on God of War III.

What's the best Castlevania game for series newcomers? This seemingly simple question is debated with the usual aplomb and long-windedness, along with your queries re: Fragile Dreams, the downside of knowing too much about the gaming business, and the differences between Yamauchi and Iwata. (It would have been much quicker to discuss their similarities.) Be sure to listen all the way through for details on our new contest related to the mysterious post-Drunkcast incident!

We're always looking for great Listener Mail to read and discuss on the show, so please send your questions or comments! (We really love seeing your praise and feedback regarding the show itself; however, in the interest of time, we may edit your letter to be read on the podcast.)      Credits:

Jon is coming back before E3, don't worry, but our friend Andy Goergen stopped by to fill the big man's shoes this week. As a member of the NWR Newscast crew, Andy is well equipped to discuss the big show. But before that, we have to let loose on yet another massive dose of New Business. Mister Goergen starts with Galaxy 2 and a gem from yesteryear -- Godfather: Blackhand Edition. Jonny remains stuck in PS3-land and is rather displeased about it, judging by his comments on Little Big Planet, PixelJunk Monsters, and a withering post-script on Heavy Rain. James returns us to the Wii with enthusiastic impressions of Trauma Team, while Greg reports on Bit.Trip RUNNER, a game that might be too difficult even for him.

This show includes only Part 1 of our E3 preview, but we still filled a whole segment just talking about DS, DSi, and especially 3DS. We make bold, idealistic predictions on unannounced features, launch windows, and the first games that Nintendo will show on the handheld successor. Also: can DS/DSi have one more great E3 showing? We answer that question and tease our Wii speculations, which will be developed further on next week's episode!

We're always looking for great Listener Mail to read and discuss on the show, so please send your questions or comments! Hey, there's this Mario game coming out. You may have heard about it. With prodding from the rest of us, James manages to say very little about it for over twenty minutes. (In other words, there are no "spoilers".) Jon's out this week, but our friend Michael Cole, otherwise known as M.C. TYP, reports on his experience as a Final Fantasy neophyte playing through the unlucky one. He drops some knowledge on Def Jam Rap Star. That's still TYP, not Jon. Jon is out this week. What a shame!

Both Greg and Jonny have a lot to say about 3D Dot Game Heroes, the PS3-exclusive Zelda tribute that every Nintendo fan should play. Jonny has also been percolating thoughts on Heavy Rain (though he completed the game after recording, so listen for an update next week before you take his recommendation to heart).

Your spectacularly astute emails lead us to analyze the Galaxy 2 hype train, the meaning of "gimmicks" in games and hardware, and the prospects and appropriateness for voice acting in the new Zelda. Please keep sending more of these awesome questions and ideas!

It's a five man cast for the duration of this week's show, as current and former RFN hosts Jonny Metts and Karl Castaneda both call in from the Sunshine State of Florida. New Business is nonetheless brisk aside from James' extended impressions of the unsettling Fragile Dreams, as the crew covers some classic Sonic, the faux-classic 3D Dot Game Heroes, Assassin's Creed 2, DJ Hero, and more.

Next, it's onto a marathon catch-up session of Listener Mail as we field your questions on such diverse topics as our favorite side-scrollers for Wii, storytelling in games, the merits of a portable Smash Bros., Nintendo's preoccupation with the Japanese market, and which was the bigger affront to civilization: RFN Episode 103, or the Drunkcast? Finally, Karl gives us the scoop on the next edition of Reset Button, and a tale from the past is exhumed against Jonny's wishes that may just be too dreadful for public consumptionÂ…

RFN is up to no good, starting with a brisk but full New Business. Jon is back to give us the run-down on Monster Hunter Tri, which he says is much better than the demo would have you believe. Jonny sings the praises of Picross 3D, Greg explores the puzzle/strategy/RPG genre with Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes, and James laments that ATV Quad Kings isn't bad enough.

The remainder of the show is all about Metroid II: Return of Samus, the latest game you selected for our RetroActive feature. Ardent fan Zach Miller (of the NWR Newscast) joins us to cover every exhaustive detail of this handheld curio. The game has its defenders (Jonny) and detractors (James), as well as plenty of fans stuck in the middle (Greg and Jon), and all are represented on our five-member panel. Remember, the discussion lives on in the dedicated Metroid II RetroActive forum thread! This segment was so much fun that we ran out of time for Listener Mail, but we'll catch up next week, so keep sending those great questions.

After taking a week off, we're back and supercharged with James Charlton subbing (on very short notice) for Jon. New Business, unusually packed with Nintendo goodness, includes a full run-down of Sakura Wars from James Jones (JJ), followed by Greg's thoughts on Red Steel 2. James Charlton (JC) catches up with NyxQuest and Spirit Tracks, while Jonny revisits Metroid Prime 3 and is pleasantly surprised by Bioshock 2.

In Listener Mail, we answer your great questions about Link's future occupations, DSiWare backwards-compatibility on 3DS, connectivity between Wii and DS, handheld-exclusive franchise sequels, and an in-depth look at (eek) our personal lives. Plus, all the requisite Jon-bashing you've come to expect whenever one of us is absent.

We start with a couple of program notes: the next RetroActive game will be Metroid II: Return of Samus, so dig up your old copy or check it out for the first time! Also, we'll be off next week, but look forward to a special bonus podcast instead.

New Business rockets into orbit with Final Fight, the Zelda-clone Darksiders, Cave Story, a Castlevania comparison, and the stark weirdness of Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey. Oh, and cooking.

The latest batch of stellar questions in Listener Mail begin with a reference to The 7th Guest and an exploration of live-action video in gaming. Could this 90s fad still be alive? Next up, we take bets on Metroid: Other M having selectable difficulty levels and partially revisit Episode 167's feature discussion on gaming difficulty. Then, it's time for dancing as we comment on Wii Fit's step program and recommended alternatives. The final email is in fact three separate questions, but we focus on a request to go down the list of Nintendo's "internal" development teams, noting what each is making now and what we expect from them in the near future. This is surely one of the longest email answers we've ever had on RFN!

The show launches directly into gaming talk, as James tries to discuss the new expansion for Dragon Age while the rest of us launch derailing attempts the whole time. Jonny wraps up No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle and expresses disappointment in Ghostbusters, also for Wii. Pokemon SoulSilver is a mostly fresh experience for Greg, but it's also a launch pad for us to suggest reforms and maybe a total reboot for the franchise. (This was recorded just before the Black/White versions were announced -- maybe our dreams will come true?) The final bit of New Business is Weapon of Choice, an Xbox Indie game that Jon is loving these days. Somewhere in there, we also investigate Nintendo of Europe's resurgence and lack of synchronicity with Nintendo of America.

Despite a long, meandering New Business segment, we didn't skimp on Listener Mail in the second half of the show. It starts with a request for interview memories, which is naturally dominated by Jonny's favorites over the years. Eliciting the most discussion is a complaint about Wii-exclusive games that don't leverage motion controls. We also get a Shout-Out for Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes, an appetizing puzzle/RPG hybrid from late 2009. Finally, we once again discuss Virtual Console, from recent additions to better ways of marketing the existing library. Thanks for all the fantastic letters!

Be sure to vote in our latest RetroActive poll, Game Boy Edition! The winning game will be discussed on an upcoming episode (maybe two) of RFN, and as always, we'd like listeners to help develop the discussion. This may be our best line-up of nominees yet, so vote now and play along later!

We're back from PAX and ready to talk about more video games. Greg kicks it off with last year's (or in Europe, this year's) Silent Hill reboot, while James finally explains what the hell is going on with Infinite Space. Jon busts out Cho Aniki Zero, and the jokes flow like... you know. New Business wraps with Jonny's thoughts on WarioWare DIY Showcase and the first few hours of Final Fantasy XIII.

After the break, we clean out the closet with some final (and I mean final) thoughts on PAX East, including Greg's perspective from across the pond. Then it's on to Listener Mail, with an extensive discussion of the Nintendo 3DS. How will 3D affect game design? What other features will the hardware include? What should we expect for online support? We don't have any answers, but that's no hindrance at all!

Podcast Discussion / RetroActive #12 Poll -- Game Boy Edition
« on: April 04, 2010, 01:27:32 AM »
Note: All of these games will play on Game Boy Color, original Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Advance SP, and the Game Boy Player accessory for GameCube. None will play on the Game Boy Micro or Nintendo DS/Lite. Only Metroid 2 and Pokemon Pinball are compatible with the original Game Boy (Fat/Light/Pocket/Super).

Metroid 2: Return of Samus (1991)
Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00002SVEM/ref=sr_1_1_olp?ie=UTF8&qid=1270356981&sr=8-1&condition=used
eBay: http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m38.l1313&_nkw=metroid+2&_sacat=See-All-Categories
This unusual case of a numbered sequel released on a handheld lives up to its title, with numerous improvements and additions over the original NES game. This is the first appearance of elements like the Spider Ball, Spazer Beam, save points, and crouching. Players only familiar with the first and third Metroid games will be surprised to find that this black and white, handheld game clearly bridges that gap and in fact looks and feels much more like Super Metroid. The game structure, however, is unique within the series, as Samus explores deeper and deeper into SR-388 to drive the Metroid species to extinction but finds the creatures have mutated into increasingly dangerous forms.

Pokemon Pinball (1999)
Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000031KJL/ref=sr_1_1_olp?ie=UTF8&qid=1270357385&sr=8-1&condition=used
eBay: http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=pokemon+pinball&_sacat=0&_trksid=p3286.m270.l1313&_dmpt=Video_Games_Games&_odkw=metroid+2&_osacat=0&bkBtn=
Arguably the most successful Pokemon spin-off game, both in sales and quality, this is an excellent and accessible pinball game with one major twist. Playing well offers chances to capture Pokemon and build up your Pokedex, just like in the RPGs. This feature, and all the mechanics supporting it, bring a longevity and depth to Pokemon Pinball that is rarely found in the genre. Note that this black cartridge will run on the original Game Boy (in black and white) or Game Boy Color (in full color). The game has built-in rumble powered by a single battery, but this feature is entirely optional and doesn't work well in the Game Boy Player.

Bionic Commando: Elite Forces (1999)
Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00004R9HX/ref=sr_1_1_olp?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1270357866&sr=1-1&condition=used
eBay: http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=bionic+commando+elite+forces&_sacat=0&_trksid=p3286.m270.l1313&_dmpt=Video_Games_Games&_odkw=pokemon+pinball&_osacat=0&bkBtn=
This overlooked action-platformer, developed at Nintendo Software Technologies, is more sequel than remake to the classic NES game. The level designs are nearly all new, and the characters (including a new female commando) have new moves. They'll need them, because this GBC exclusive is extremely challenging, just like its predecessors and successors.

Wario Land 3 (2000)
Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00004S99X/ref=sr_1_1_olp?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1270357931&sr=1-1&condition=used
eBay: http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=wario+land+3&_sacat=0&_trksid=p3286.m270.l1313&_dmpt=Video_Games_Games&_odkw=bionic+commando+elite+forces&_osacat=0&bkBtn=
Although the previous game in the series was re-released as a dual-mode cartridge near the GBC launch, Wario Land 3 takes full advantage of the hardware as a GBC-exclusive game. This sprawling platformer features a non-linear world map, multiple level exits, upgradeable abilities, and brilliant puzzles. As in WL2, our anti-hero is immortal -- enemies either knock away coins or transform Wario into a variety of altered states that can be simultaneously annoying, useful, and hilarious. Both in technology and game design, this may well be the most ambitious GBC title from Nintendo before the platform was pushed aside for the Game Boy Advance launch.

Metal Gear Solid, a.k.a. "Ghost Babel" (2000)
Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00004LC81/ref=sr_1_1_olp?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1270358415&sr=1-1&condition=used
eBay: http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=metal+gear+solid+game+boy&_sacat=0&_trksid=p3286.m270.l1313&_dmpt=Video_Games_Games&_odkw=wario+land+3&_osacat=0&bkBtn=
Though sharing a name and some elements from the PlayStation MGS, this handheld game is entirely original and is considered canonical within the Metal Gear franchise. It is played from an overhead, 2D perspective like the original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, but incorporates more modern controls and features from the 3D revival. Famously, MGS for Game Boy spent years as the #1 best-reviewed video game among all platforms at GameRankings.com. It is currently #12 and the highest ranking handheld game on that list.

Here it is, the Drunkcast in all its raunchy glory. Several NWR staff members gathered in a hotel room, turned on a recorder, and let the alcohol flow. The results did not disappoint. Despite the obvious chaos in this episode, there is still plenty of substantive content on the second day of PAX East. You even get a round of New Business from everyone present! Listen as the jokes get dirtier and the laughs get louder over the course of this nearly two-hour podcast.

Also, be sure to check the subscription feed for a bonus episode later in the week, an hour of Jonny, Mike, Karl, and Lindy playing Magic: The Gathering. It's a little inside, for long-suffering fans of the show, so there won't be a stand-alone podcast article. If you've been listening to RFN for the past couple of years, it should be quite entertaining.      Credits:

Our live podcast debut is less than a week away, but we hardly skimped on gaming content to bring you this stuffed episode. We start with the disappointing, ostensibly free demo of Monster Hunter 3 Tri. Jon's all about God of War III, James is slogging through the inexplicable DS version of Ragnarok, and Greg has a new Japanese VC game (extra obscure this time). Jonny praises Mass Effect 2, slams the localization of Sky Crawlers, and then joins Greg in analyzing Castlevania: Rondo of Blood.

Listener Mail kicks off with a Shout-Out for Blizzard's 16-bit gem, The Lost Vikings. We also answer your letters about hatin' on decent games, quality co-op adventures for the whole family, and rampant speculation on the status of Dragon Quest X for Wii.

Heading to PAX East in March? If you can stand to miss part of Chris Kohler's panel or Wil Wheaton's keynote, please consider attending our own panel, Radio Free Nintendo: A Live Nintendo Podcast for Grown-Ups. Jonny, James, Jon, Karl, and Mike will be in person to discuss Nintendo games and take your questions, directly from the audience! There are also plans to have a social gathering with RFN fans that weekend -- check the forum thread for details. If you can't make it to PAX, don't worry! We plan to record everything for the podcast feed.

We're always looking for great Listener Mail to read and discuss on the show, so please send your questions or comments! (We really love seeing your praise and feedback regarding the show itself; however, in the interest of time, we may edit your letter to be read on the podcast.)      Credits:

Podcast Discussion / Radio Free Nintendo: Episode 187

On this deadly episode: numerous fatalities in Shiren the Wanderer, killing tornadoes and bears in Disaster, and the gaming crap we'd like to euthanize.

As the universally acclaimed leader in Ironically-Fascinated-by-90s-Hip-Hop Nintendo Podcasts, we predictably celebrate the 187th episode of RFN with the ridiculous theme of murder/death/kill. Jonny's New Business kicks it off with his lengthy and detailed impressions of the morbidly fascinating Shiren the Wanderer (for DS). Like little Mikey chewing so much Life cereal, the host is pleasantly surprised by this bizarre and obtuse RPG. In other New Business: James can't get enough BioWare, Jon catches up on Torchlight and plays more Disaster: Day of Crisis, and Greg is blessedly current and on-topic with Picross 3D.

With Jonny out of the way for the second segment (scheduling conflict, or something more sinister?), the rest of the crew lowers the axe on all the things in the gaming industry that need to die in a lively feature discussion. Industry analysts, corporate jargon, unskippable tutorials, and babbling enemies are just some of the victims of this violent purge before we rediscover our sentimental side by answering a distinctly nostalgic trio of Listener Mail questions to close out the show.

Roguelike fans and anyone else familiar with Shiren DS... please help. I am truly fascinated by this game and have already enjoyed a lot of things about it. But I feel doubtful that my current play style will ever get me to the end or let me see the coolest parts. There isn't much useful at GameFAQs.

Any hints, strategies, item tricks, etc. would be greatly appreciated. I am doing Fay's Puzzles to learn more about the gameplay and collect some bonus items, but most of them are pretty useless.

I got very discouraged today when a Katana and Walrus Shield (both of which I had upgraded through multiple adventures) were lost. It seems like this game provides interesting, albeit slow, ways of building up your character and increasing your chances, but then it throws some random death squad to take it all away. I'm fighting the sense that my skill/strategy don't matter, because I will not be able to keep playing if the whole game is just arbitrary.

To give an idea of my progress so far: I've rescued the girl whose parents own the storage center; I have opened the restaurant and gotten sick there; Gaibara is still working on my reward jar; Pekiji is somewhat useful but still asks for rice balls and rarely attacks the enemy; I have been blinded by the girl in the forest. The farthest I've been is to the last town, where I could have proceeded past the "point of no return" but thought it wiser to turn back and keep building up.

A full, and fully awesome, Listener Mail segment includes your questions about fixing Wii Music, Virtual Console Arcade vs. Xbox Game Room, the spectrum of emotions in gaming, and the value of DSi XL.

It has been an exciting week for Nintendo fans, with release dates and new details for Mario, Metroid, and many other games. Thankfully, Jon is back to help us process it all. He also dishes out impressions of Disaster: Day of Crisis, has an early look at Mega Man 10, and some final thoughts on Super Mario RPG. But wait, there's more! Jonny talks up No More Heroes 2 (with Classic Controller), Greg has guarded praise for Muramasa, and James wraps up Miles Edgeworth in this dense New Business segment.

After the break, we announce the winner of the Game of the Decade poll and briefly discuss those results. Thanks once again to everyone who voted, nominated, and organized this lengthy but fascinating process! Then we finally catch up on a portion of your Listener Mail. It starts with a couple of gushing letters that were so kind and eloquent that we had to read them on the air; one also leads to some thoughts on our plans (or lack thereof) to be professionally involved in gaming. Next is a more substantive discussion of Metroid Fusion, with detailed criticisms but also some praise and appreciation for the game that revived 2D Metroid after nearly a decade of dormancy. Finally, a counterpoint to all the congratulations -- one reader expresses great disappointment in our recent elevation of Majora's Mask over Wind Waker, and we respond as best we can.

Jon couldn't make it this week, but luckily, Michael "TYP" Cole was available in his place. TYP spent the previous weekend at Jonny's place, so they have a veritable buffet of games to run through during New Business. James has first thoughts on the Miles Edgeworth game, and Greg catches up on Flower. We only had time for one email this week, but it's a Shout-Out for the forgotten GBA game, Ninja Five-O.

The majority of this episode is consumed by RetroActive #11, the long-awaited discussion of Super Mario RPG. We dive right into the meat of the game, including a lot of what happens in the second half (so if you're still playing, there may be spoilers). We also read a ton of your comments from the forum thread, with some great observations and conversational boosters.

As of this posting, you still have a few days to vote in our Game of the Decade poll -- don't wait! And be sure to check out Zach Miller's cool artwork for the feature.

Recording this episode was some of the most fun we've ever had making Radio Free Nintendo. We think you'll love the finished product just as much. Before the big feature segment, we have a reduced New Business with Big Bang Mini, Blaster Master: Overdrive, and the amazing free shmup, Genetos.

James missed the first half-hour, but he's definitely present for the gigantic conversation about Game of the Decade. We start with the final round of nominees and then launch right into deliberations. Needless to say, it was a real challenge cutting a list of 20 amazing games down to just a handful. Emotions ran high as we made several Sophie's Choices in this process, but we tried very hard to avoid negativity. Even when games had to be cut, we sent them off with praise. The final result is a short list of incredible games, and thankfully, we didn't have to choose just one in the end. That task goes to you, in fact. While the poll has started, we strongly encourage you to hear this episode of RFN before voting or even looking at the final selections. Not only will you experience the drama of our methodology, but you will hear many great stories about these games and perhaps rethink your position on them.

Next week, we'll finally do RetroActive: Super Mario RPG! Leave your comments and join the discussion in the dedicated forum thread.

Nintendo Gaming / Blaster Master: Overdrive
« on: February 08, 2010, 10:37:02 PM »
...is amazing. I just played for three hours with hardly a break. If you like Metroid-style action games, this is the best 1000 Wii Points you can spend. Overdrive is NOT a remake of Blaster Master; it is an all new sequel. It keeps the essence of gameplay, in both tank and overhead sequences, but all the content is new. New maps, new enemies, new upgrades, new weapons. There are also some much appreciated modern features, like save points and an auto-map straight out of Super Metroid.

The tank sequences feel exactly like those in the original Blaster Master, in terms of physics and layout. The main difference is that your weapons and hover are now limited only by an energy meter that automatically refills after a few seconds. Gone are the consumable sub-weapons and deviously rare hover packs. Hover can no longer get you higher than a regular jump, but that's where the grapple hook comes in. That's right, Overdrive combines my two favorite game mechanics of all time, flying and grappling, with a Metroid-style world full of exploration rewards. There are health and energy upgrades all over the map, some requiring a lot of skill to reach, not to mention the right tank abilities.

The overhead sequences, while intact, barely resemble those in the original game. That's a good thing! You can now shoot in eight directions, and holding the B button (under the Remote... not entirely comfortable) lets you strafe at the cost of some walking speed. You have three different weapons available from the very start of the game. There's the standard gun, a weaker homing weapon, and the powerful but slow grenade launcher. All three can be upgraded separately up to level 5, with each level bringing faster and more powerful shots that even look cooler. You still lose a weapon level when hit, so it pays to be careful and dodge enemy shots. This classic element makes boss fights particularly tense, as the more you get hit, the more difficult it is to win.

While Overdrive is still challenging overall, it is nowhere near as hard as the first Blaster Master. Enemies frequently drop health pick-ups, and with the save system, dying is not a severe punishment. It's also easier to find your way around each area, thanks to the auto-map. Most of the overhead areas contain at least one permanent health upgrade in addition to weapon pick-ups, so it's worth exploring every cave. (The original game had many dead-ends and practically worthless, yet dangerous, overhead caves.)

I should also note that the graphics are fantastic, and the music is quite good. Each area has a different song, and while some are better than others, they all sound better than that remix you heard in the trailer.

[Edit: fixed the game's subtitle... thanks, Neal!]

James is thrilled to finally have his Xbox back, but he's also been playing the Symphonia sequel and reviewing Glory of Heracles. Jon gets a special delivery and opens it live on the air, while Greg delves deeper into that one clone of Jet Force Gemini. Jonny brings it home with first impressions of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, plus the Zelda-esque Assassin's Creed 2.

After the penultimate round of nominees for Game of the Decade, we launch into your Listener Mail. There are suggestions for Wii Player's Choice, worried speculation on the recently teased Metroid: Other M, and a robust chat on inactive Wii owners who aren't buying M-rated games.

Podcast Discussion / Episode 181: March of the Muscles
« on: January 31, 2010, 11:50:00 AM »

This episode is narrated by Morgan Freeman.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rfn/20866/episode-181-march-of-the-muscles

We've got the whole crew this week and, with the exception of Greg, we all went on a very special journey. But first there's the usual New Business, as Greg recounts finishing four games in the span of just a few days, James and Jonny pick up the Nintendo material with Tales of Symphonia 2 and Silent Hill, respectively, while Jon buys a sequel to a game he barely played two years ago. Before the segment ends, it's the moment everyone's been waiting for as we tackle (pun intended) Muscle March in a vudu-sponsored round of hilarity.

After the break, you'll hear four more Game of the Decade entries, this time with a handheld theme. Zelda, Wario, Metroid, Mario, and Luigi further complicate the upcoming verdict. In your Listener Mail, we ponder which early Wii games could benefit from MotionPlus remakes, what should happen with game reviews to reach a larger audience, and why Nintendo is more committed to physical interaction than emotional interaction.

Don't forget to play along with us on Super Mario RPG for RetroActive! Leave your comments and join the discussion in the dedicated forum thread.

Podcast Discussion / RetroActive #11 Discussion: Super Mario RPG
« on: January 29, 2010, 04:55:11 PM »
Please use this thread to discuss our next RetroActive game, Super Mario RPG. It is available on Virtual Console for 800 Wii Points. Note that we'll be pulling quotes out of this thread to be read on Radio Free Nintendo during our on-air discussion of the game. Comments made here will help to direct the podcast conversation, so please ask and discuss anything about the game that you find interesting!

One more note: due to our established familiarity with SMRPG and its considerable length, we are allowing for extra time for everyone to play deep into the game. Feel free to write about your early impressions, late-game spoilers, obscure side-quests, and overall thoughts on the entire experience.
