General Gaming / RE: Nintendo's next console in 2005
« on: September 02, 2003, 07:16:23 PM »
Did you even read the article? The "N5" that GMR has pictures of is an artist conception of what they think it'll look like. The specs were even fake and reek of outsider overcompensation (DVD playback, analog and digital AV out, USB, ethernet, etc...).

A lot of boys (and men) in anime are voiced by women. It's pretty common for women to do boys in Western animation as well.

From past experience, those free magazine offers take anywhere from 6-12 weeks to arrive.

i'll agree with Gup on one point -- it's not as bad as he made it out to be. Face it, the GC (and Nintendo in general at times) has an image problem here in the US, and there are some issues i think Nintendo could handle better (ahem, LAN play), so if an editor rags on Nintendo i just brush it off. i haven't noticed any major anti-Nintendo sentiment in the five issues i've gotten, though. Overall a solid multiplatform mag with a piece on old-school, import, or just plain obscure gaming in each issue. i just wish they'd drop the Game Geezer bit at the end of the magazine and add more articles. Then it'd be darn near close to perfect. It's practically a steal at ten bucks though.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Another reason why it may be N5 and have VR

There was also Sega VR, a head-mounted unit which was canned because too many testers got sick after operating it.

If Genki can produce competent AI, then i'm all for AI-controlled teammates. But i think it would be easier to switch control amongst characters, as in Sonic Heroes. The potential for AI mistakes is too great. Looks good though, if not similar to Tenchu. Can't wait to see more of Shinkawa's designs.

Obviously, Caliban, they're afraid you'll copy their jutsu. Duh. [/naruto]

I agree. I've long thought that there should be a "PG" rating to be between an "E" and a "T" rating. I mean, look at the Star Wars games. The movies were all rated PG, but the games are rated "T", which is the same as a PG-13 rating.

i dunno, if you look at PG-13 movies within the past few years, they've moved closer to R movies. i think the all encompassing T rating works pretty well as a P-PG rating equivalent. Content descriptors tell you why they received the rating they did. Off the top of my head, i think the ESRB's descriptors for T-rated games is close the MPAA's descriptors for PG to PG-13-rated movies. i just wish we could decide on one simple system for everything. It must be confusing for parents who have to juggle rating schemes for movies, games, and tv.

Correct. Specifically from one of the Ebichuman episodes.

i can't complain about EQ. i met this girl whose boyfriend was obsessed with the game. Her relationship with him got worse, while her relationship with me got better. Thanks EQ!

« on: August 29, 2003, 07:06:09 PM »
For what it's worth, i though it was a pretty good review. My complaints were that it lacked depth in explaining the game as a whole, specifically gameplay. Regarding the Christian elements of the review, well, as i see it, Christianity to most is very subjective. Even among the various denominations, its followers each have their own take on what's allowed or not within its confines. My mom wouldn't let me play RPGs as a kid, partially because of the use of spirits and magic and partially because of the highly-publicized D&D cults from years previous. i never played an RPG until Final Fantasy 7 (which i got with my used Playstation). Part of the reason i don't practice Christianity today.

« on: August 28, 2003, 08:16:05 PM »
yeah rpglover hit the nail on the head. i'll add to that the fact that the VF series doesn't have the flash of Namco's games, neither in moves nor art direction, save for Goh and Brad.

Mark my words, it'll either be the biggest console in the next generation or the smallest.

i'd suggest checking out http://www.esrb.org/ to get the lowdown on their ratings.

According to their site, "suggestive themes" contain "mild provocative references or materials." This might include seductive poses, usually from female characters, or revealing attire. There's nothing overtly gory about the game as you'd see in Mortal Kombat.

How do you get arrested for something like that? If that was my mom, i wouldn't want anyone to know about that.

I came back and they hooked me up, they're pretty cool

Consider you bought the game the "other day", they're very cool. Glad you didn't have any problems getting your game.

Easiest way is to reply and break one of the rules that doesn't result in an auto-ban. Duh.

(That's a joke of course, although it's a good way to get your thread locked.)

Having worked at the 'stop, i can tell you that it was likely a mistake, and it happens. It's best if you go back the same day though.

When you buy a "new" game from, well, anywhere, make sure that the shrinkwrap along the top is folded in on the top and bottom. If it's not and it has a rough edge to it, it's something they wrapped themselves.

"Bad Dudes"- the president has been kidnapped by ninjas. are you a bad enough dude to save the president?
i think that is word for word the story line in bad dudes- i own that game just to see the intro now and again for a laugh

Gotta love the Duke Nukem-lookalike who spouts such classic lines.

"I'M BAD!!"

believe that would be Blake Stone.

Actually Blake Stone came out some time after Doom if i remember correctly, but it was indeed Apogee. The game i was thinking of was Catacombs of the Abyss. Thanks for playing!

Well actually Castle Wolfenstein was the first FPS, so blame it not doom

Actually, there was at last one FPS before that. The one that first comes to mind was an EGA wonder which escapes me at the moment. i can't even remember the developer, but they were big back in the DOS gaming days. Could be Apogee... must Google it.

While there's several games i don't like, the only game i can think of that i hate would be Tao Feng. The characters' names are extremely generic and the female character designs are diddle candy for boys. The controls are sluggish and way too complicated. Add to this an unforgiving AI and gameplay that's seriously combo-heavy.

i almost forgot Enter the Matrix, which was actually enjoyable at times, though i don't think this was Shiny's intention. While the fight animations were decent, common animations like those for running and climbing looked clumsy. There were parts of the game that were unabashed shootouts, and parts for some stealth, but if you tried to inject stealth into an action sequence or vice versa, you paid dearly for it. There were times when you could shoot an enemy at point blank range with a shotgun, and they'll give you a Hollywood elbow (one which looks like it connected but missed by a mile) for your troubles, sometimes even killing you with it. There wasn't always a clear indication of where to go, despite an arrow which points to your next objective, Crazy Taxi-style. Sometimes taking an alternate path meant avoiding enemies, but usually it meant falling to your death or running into a dead end with an invincible agent on your back. Some areas were scripted, so there was only one way to approach them, but there's no way of knowing that until you've died multiple times in vain, plotting the deaths of Shiny family members all the while. Think you're being smart by sniping a guy in the distance? Surprise! You can shoot him because he's in an area you've gotten to, even though he's clearly within sniper rifle range. The driving scenes were fun at first, but got old quick. The worst moment in the game, was definitely at the end. You have to escape the waves of sentinels in the tunnels. As Niobe you "pilot" the Logos. Note that i use the word "pilot" in the same sense that crap is "piloted" through the sewer system. You really only have to hold the R trigger down and occasionally hit a direction. You can't die. As Ghost, you have to fire upon the sentinels as Niobe pilots, which is dificult because of the twists and turns in the tunnels and also because there's no targeting reticule. So you have no idea where to aim until you fire your stream of infinte ammo, which may or may not have any effect on the swarms. You can actually die here, but you have to literally leave the controller on the floor, make a sandwich, and come back.

It's common for a site dominated with males to have its male members wooing the known female members. i consider it a form of flirting. i prefer to do it in real life though.

i went bald about six weeks ago. i didn't feel like getting my hair cut so i tried doing it myself. Hours later i had a bald head. Aside from how awkward i looked and felt (seeing as how i usually have hair), i felt pretty sexy. i got a few compliments and various women wanted to touch my head. It's too much upkeep and i didn't like the way i look with it (i sorta have a cone head) so i let it grow back out.

One of these days i'll shave it again and become a megalomaniacal maniac hellbent on world domination. You'll all see.

Caffeine can also cause twitching, rambling thoughts, stuttering, osteoporosis (lack of bone density), irregularity of breath and heartbeat and diuresis (increased urine production which can lead to dehydration). i've suffered from all of the above due to insanely high caffeine consumption. It's a serious drug, especially considering it's not regulated in the US.
