Pedro makes some surprisingly accurate predictions!
For some, E3 was mainly OK. For others, it was a complete and utter disappointment. To me, it was a mixture of everything. I wasn't exactly blown away by it all, but it didn't infuriate me like other E3 events. Looking back at my Bingo predictions, I actually got many of them right, while others were nothing but pure fanboy speculation.
1. The one I should have thought of more carefully was the Smash Bros. prediction. When I wrote it there were some rumors and speculation about the next SSB being shown off in one form or another. The truth is that the development team JUST finished Kid Icarus: Uprising. That game was in development for nearly two years. It means that it is likely that the developers JUST got around to starting the design phases of the Smash Bros.; it could still pretty much be existing on papers and sketchy drawings, not enough to make a teaser trailer out of. Add to this the belief that it will connect to a 3DS version, and the game might end up appearing either next year or in two more years. Or it could make an appearance before the end of the year. Who knows at this point?
4. My Wii Sports follow-up prediction is a bit of an enigma. If you were to take it literally, I was very off since a sequel was never shown at the event. But if you look at it through another lens, a follow up WAS indeed shown... Nintendo Land. Nintendo Land so far looks to be the pack-in game that shows off the features of the Wii U in the same manner that Wii Sports highlighted the Wii's unique features.
11. Speaking of Nintendo Land, I predicted that a surprise Nintendo first party game would be teased. Well, I was off on it being teased, but Nintendo Land fits the bill of being the surprise Nintendo first party game. It was more than just teased; the whole last half of the show was based on Nintendo Land.
14. The Nintendo third party collaboration prediction was right. Sure, technically many of the Wii U's games were third party. I am, however, talking about Nintendo's team up with Platinum Games. Their name might not be as big as Sega's or Capcom's, but they have gained quite a following thanks to some very crazy (and violent) titles like MadWorld and Bayonetta.
16. The Wii U supporting two GamePads was perhaps the safest prediction on my list. By the time the feature was up, Nintendo had already confirmed that the Wii U would support two game pads instead of just one as revealed at E3 last year.
19. Wario made an appearance in the form of a game that barely resembled a Wario game; it was, however, too early to tell, so that may change by the time it is released.
17. I predicted that Nintendo would show off launch and launch window titles, and I was correct. Pikmin 3, New Super Mario Bros. Wii U, Nintendo Land, and even some third party titles like Assassin's Creed III were advertised as being released either at launch or during the launch window.
23. What surprised me the most was - believe it or not - the lack of a Sega Sonic the Hedgehog title on Wii U. I based my prediction on the fact that Sonic and the Secret Rings was at E3 2006, and was shown as a showcase of the Wii Remote's tilt controls. I was expecting something from Sega, but they could still be working on it.
Overall, E3 was surprising to me for a lot of reasons. A lot was shown, but at the same time very little was shown, depending on how you look at it. It was a show that was either good or bad based on what you were expecting. As these Bingo cards prove, a lot was expected, but not everything made an appearance.
