NeuroSky is one of the many companies developing a brain-computer interface device, controlled by Electroencephalography (EEG, or brainwaves). Unlike their competitors, NeuroSky’s device relies on a single electrode, which touches the forehead and is attached to a headset. Their technology is set to be incorporated into a number of applications including a Star Wars-themed “Force Trainer” toy, a PC interface (a demo developed by Square Enix was on display), and a DS input device.
The DS application called Memory Planet is being developed by A2M, and is designed for kids with Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Kids must relax in order to control the game, with the game interpreting EEG signals to check for a relaxed state. Unfortunately, A2M was unwilling to let us post their demo video due to the game’s early stage of development.
