Dementium: The Ward

Post-Game

Does Dementium: The Ward appear to be spookily awesome or creepily mediocre? Find out in this week's Extra Life.

Dementium looks like it could use some refinement. It looks good and sets a nice atmosphere, and the controls are about as good as it gets for first-person shooters on a DS. However, the lack of direction and brutality of the checkpoints seems to be absurd. I cut this game off slightly early mainly because I would have had to replay over a half hour of content to get to the same area where I was at about 40 to 45 minutes into the game.

Also, the combat felt off, especially the melee combat. It really bothered me that the nightstick combat felt like a turn-based battle because of the delay between strikes.

I wish I had this gun in Dementium.

I don't think I'll be rushing out to try Moon or Dementium II, but according to Zach Miller, developer Renegade Kid improved on the foundation they laid out in Dementium, which is good to hear. I leave my experience with Dementium without being swayed to the concept of first-person shooters on DS being good, but I understand why people might want to play them.

Zach should be reviewing this soon. Hopefully it's really good.

Did you like the fourth outing of Extra Life? Do you think I was too harsh on Dementium? Will Gamecock rise again? Any comments? Criticisms? Questions? Discuss all that and more in Talkback.
