Does Dementium: The Ward appear to be spookily awesome or creepily mediocre? Find out in this week's Extra Life.
Note: The following is all written in streams of consciousness during my time with the game.
It has moody music and an unsettling introduction. After finding a key and a notepad, I leave the room I start off in and go out until a hall where a weird voice bellows "This is an emergency. Please evacuate the building" over the loud speaker. There's also a weird-looking creature with a meat cleaver dragging a girl on the floor. There's also blood everywhere.

I don't quite understand this picture, but I'm a little disturbed.
The controls are what I'd expect in a first-person shooter on DS. The stylus controls where you look, and the D-pad (or face buttons if you're a lefty like me) moves you around. I just uncovered a flashlight, which is switched on and off by the R button. There's a door in front of me that I need to input a numerical code into to unlock it. After wandering around the area, I find numbers scrawled in blood on the wall. I jot this down in my trusty notebook (DS features for the win) and go back and unlock the door.
Oh damn, there's an alarm! And a cleverly placed nightstick on the ground, followed up by a deliberately placed enemy. He's a zombie-looking character and a few hits from the nightstick makes him evaporate. I also found a map, which looks to be extremely confusing.
The flashlight flickers every now and then, which is pretty damn cool. However, this nightstick combat is kind of awful. I ran into some bugs (literal bugs, not game errors) that are annoying. Luckily health drops are plentiful right now. And now the first chapter is over. That was quick.

The flashlight, and a typical enemy.
I'm on a rooftop to start chapter two. I was about to comment on how the fence rattled when you moved against it, but no, it was just a stupid enemy slowly walking towards me. I might be missing something, but it's really annoying when there doesn't seem to be any possible way to defeat an enemy without getting hit.
And I'm at chapter three. That was quick.
I'm wandering through more halls, and killing more enemies. When the hell am I going to get a gun?
Fantastic, now I'm seeing ammo on the ground. It looks like I missed something.
I'm getting a mild Metroid Prime vibe as I walk past two rooms with creepy creatures in containment units. One of these suckers is busting out soon.
Now there's a toy piano in a room with "DEAD" written in blood above it. Oh wow! Look, a toy piano instruction book. Knowing where the D, E, and A keys on the piano are, I go back and play the DEAD song. Keycard get!
Going back out into a corridor, some freaky-looking head crab things pop out, and then they freaking end me because I don't have a gun. Ugh… I wish I found a gun.
Wait, what? I have to start over the past the half hour of gameplay? Yup, it looks like you have to restart the entire chapter if you die in one. Screw this, I'm done.

I wish I found one of these
Played about 45 minutes until small worm-like monsters killed me and I got sent back a half hour. I never found a gun, and my nightstick was helpless against them.
