The Japanese Splatoon Twitter account has announced a massive content update for August 6, with the update landing on August 5 in North America.
According to a translation provided by @Cheesemeister3k the update will include new weapons and items, as well as private matches and a new tag team match function.

The best use of a bucket since Mario and Wario,
A new Japanese commercial for Splatoon shows some upcoming elements for the shooter.
In addition to showing the Rainmaker mode, the commercial shows a gun in the style of a gatling gun, as well as a paint bucket being used to spread paint. The gatling gun was found in previously mined data, but the paint bucket appears to be new.

The Wii U service never lived up to its potential, anyway.
The TVii service is no more.
Nintendo announced today via Miiverse that the Wii U’s forgettable TVii service will be discontinued in North America on August 11th, 2015 at 3:00 PM PST. The app has been sitting on North American Wii U systems since shortly after launch. The service was delayed in Europe for years and eventually cancelled.

A new Meta Knight statue from First 4 Figures has been revealed. Pre-orders for the new collectable will go live on July 28th on First4Figures.com. Further information, such as pricing and edition size, will be revealed at that time.
Meta Knight is the second statue First 4 Figures has produced in the Kirby line. Previously the company has released Sword Kirby in both the Standard and Exclusive variants.

Along with a sale and a new version
Some major changes are coming to Elliot Quest, with the first of them hitting next week.
The first will come down as an update on July 30, when the game will add support for Miiverse journals which appear to launch July 29, and 20 Miiverse stamps. The update will be accompanied by a 15% off sale in both North America and Europe.

I suspect the E-Liter will be popular here, what with all the camping involved.
The newest Splatoon stage comes tomorrow night, and is well timed for summer camp.
Camp Triggerfish will launch squidkids into bases separated from the rest of the map by water and a series of bridges. Turf War matches will see floodgates go down with a minute left on the clock, while ranked matches will see the gates down at all times.

Multiple sources are showing a 2016 release for the crowdfunded successor.
Multiple retail outlets are now showing the physical version of Mighty No 9 with a 2016 release date.
The following websites have updated their release dates for Mighty No 9 to "December 31, 2016": Amazon (both US and Canada), GameStop, EB Games, GameFly, Walmart (US/Canada), Best Buy (Canada). As of press time, Best Buy's US site and Target still show the game with the previous September 15 release date.

Breakin' bones in the streets.
This week is surprisingly loaded for Nintendo systems in North America. Even if you put aside Donkey Kong Jungle Climber, there's 2.5 major 3DS games in the form of 3D Streets of Rage 2, Dragon Fantasy (complete with crossbuy!) and the controversial New 3DS exclusive Binding of Isaac Rebirth. Yes, the game we thought would never come to a Nintendo console is coming to both of them (in theory).

Moray Towers is about to become hell on Inkopolis
The weekly Splatoon weapon update will hit tonight at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT and will bring a couple of modifications to existing weapons.
The Neo Splash-O-Matic is a color modification to the existing Splash-O-Matic, but packs Burst Bombs as the subweapon and an Inkzooka special for long-range blasting.

A long-standing relationship brings new ideas to the market.
Nintendo has teamed up with the video game development school Digipen to open a studio in Singapore.
DigiPen Game Studios will start out working on smaller titles, with the aim to bring some titles to the eShop later this year. Some game funding will be provided by Singapore's Media Development Authority.

Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire players in North America and Europe will get a second crack at a Mythical Pokémon.
Diancie, the Rock/Fairy typed legendary Pokémon, will be available via a internet Mystery Gift from Friday July 24 to Monday July 27. It will come at Level 50 and will earn its Mega Stone if you bring it to a Pokémon Center after receiving it.

Japan is going to have another million seller on the 3DS just in time for the holidays.
A NicoNico livestream last night announced that Monster Hunter X will release on November 28 in Japan. The game runs on the Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate engine and will feature elements brought from 4 Ultimate like the Palicoes, but will feature more action elements and finishing moves adapted from the Asia-only Monster Hunter MMOs.

The Angry Video Game Nerd will return to Nintendo consoles.
At the 2015 SGC presented by Screw Attack, developer FreakZone Games announced that a second round of adventures of the Angry Video Game Nerd has entered development. The first game came out on Wii U and 3DS earlier this year, and the sequel is confirmed for "Nintendo consoles" as well as other platforms.
