Taking a dip into the homebrew waters just got a little bit easier.
A new exploit for the Wii has been uncovered which does not require the use of any Wii game discs, unlike other current methods. The exploit, titled LetterBomb, was developed by hackers known as blasty and tueidj. It uses the Wii Message Board as a conduit to bypass the Wii's security and load the HackMii Installer, which loads the Homebrew Channel onto the Wii System Menu.

Flame Red joins the lineup.
Nintendo 3DS will be available in a new Flame Red color on September 9, the same day that Star Fox 64 3D launches in North America. Currently, the system is only available in Cosmo Black and Aqua Blue. The new 3DS color will be available at the MSRP of $169.99.
This isn't the first time we've seen a flame red handheld from Nintendo: a color of the same name was paired with the Game Boy Advance SP.

The two upcoming 3DS Mario titles may have solid release dates.
Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 may have solid release dates in North America – November 13 and December 4 respectively. MTV Multiplayer Blog ran a story earlier in the day that showed both of these dates, however, shortly thereafter, the story was updated, and the two release dates were removed.

Another RPG is set to arrive on the 3DS VC in Japan.
Heracles no Eiko Ugokidashita no Kamigami is coming to the 3DS Virtual Console in Japan on August 24.
Heracles no Eiko, known as Glory of Heracles outside of Japan, is an RPG that was originally developed and published by Data East. The series appeared on several Nintendo platforms in Japan, including the original Game Boy in 1992. The series has made an appearance outside of Japan only once in North America on the Nintendo DS in 2010.

The DS version will once again be in the hands of n-Space.
A DS version of the upcoming Modern Warfare 3, with "Defiance" as its subtitle, has been confirmed.
Modern Warfare 3 DS will be developed by n-Space, who has had experience working with the handheld conversions of previous Call of Duty shooters such as Black Ops, World at War and Modern Warfare 1 and 2.

Even with sales drops, the system performed well for the month of July.
Nintendo's 3DS system managed to become a best seller in July, according to the recent sales data by Enterbrain.
For the five-week period, starting on June 27 and ending on July 31, the 3DS topped the hardware sales charts with 148,913 units sold. For two months in a row, the system has topped Enterbrain's hardware charts, and in the weeks of July the 3DS managed to have sales of over 30,000 units sold.

The first run of the game will come with a 24 track CD.
An announcement made by XSEED Games confirmed that the first prints of Solatorobo: Red the Hunter will come with a soundtrack CD featuring 24 tracks from the game. Details on exactly how many copies would be printed with the CD have yet to be revealed.

Focus shall be placed on original titles rather than licensed games.
THQ announced that they have laid off over 200 employees. This was done in order to move focus away from licensed and children's games.
The company closed down two development houses in Australia as well as their development teams based in Phoenix. The rest of their development teams have remained intact, focusing on the development of original titles such as the Saint Row games, Darksiders 2 and inSANE.

Unlike WiiWare, royalties to developers are not held until a certain sales threshold is reached.
Games published for Nintendo's DSiWare and eShop services are not required to reach a sales threshold before royalties can be paid to the developer. This is in contrast to WiiWare, for which a minimum number of downloads must be reached before royalties are released.

GameArts' The Magic Obelisk has been removed from the North American Wii Shop Channel. No reasons for its absence have been given by the company or by Nintendo.

Capcom's adventure game, Nazo Waku Yakata gets a paid demo in the eShop.
Last Thursday, Nintendo and Capcom released the first paid demo to the Japanese eShop, Nazo Waku Yakata. The paid demo includes the first chapter of Capcom’s 3DS adventure game and cost ¥200 ($2.55). More chapters may also be under consideration, though they are currently undecided.
Actions like this are worrisome, as they may set a precedent that future eShop demos will follow.
