Dragon Quest VIII Remake Announced For 3DS
The last DQ holdout has finally come to Nintendo platforms, as Dragon Quest VIII will release in Japan on August 27.
Western gamers originally saw DQVIII release in 2005 on the PlayStation 2, and the new version promises two new companions, voice acting, an orchestrated soundtrack, new story elements and StreetPass functions.

The summer will bring some major Splatoon updates.
A free update for Splatoon is coming in August that will bring more key functionality to the multiplayer.
The update will add friend matching to all multiplayer modes, allowing you to force matches with friends on the multiplayer modes. In addition, players will be able to create eight-friend matches with the player’s choice of maps and rules in addition to the normal game rotation.

Finally, a chance to tell Nintendo you want voice chat.
For the first time ever, Nintendo will be holding a beta for a game.
Announced in today’s Splatoon Direct, the beta, dubbed Global Testfire, will run May 8 from 11 p.m. ET to 12a.m. ET, and May 9 from 7 a.m. ET to 8 a.m. ET and 3 p.m. ET to 4 p.m. ET. This demo, downloadable from the eShop today, will give early access to the Turf War mode. The beta is on the eShop now and Nintendo will take feedback from beta testers.

Nintendo is getting into the theme park business with the help of Universal Studios.
A press release sent out to coincide with Nintendo's financial results announced the alliance, which will see "spectacular, dedicated experiences based on Nintendo's wildly popular games, characters and worlds."

A couple of major recent digital releases have been patched to fix ongoing issues.
Mario Kart 8 has been patched to version 4.1. In addition to "bug fixes and improvements" possibly related to issues of save file deletion, the patch unlocks Mirror mode and 200cc for those who haven't cleared 150cc in its entirety yet.

Featuring a bat and a chameleon in desperate need of pants.
The game previously known as Project Ukulele now has a title, protagonists and a price for its Kickstarter backers.
Yooka-Laylee, the project announced a few months ago by the ex-Rare staff at Playtonic Games, is a 3D platformer starring Yooka the chameleon and Laylee the bat. Yooka can use his tongue as a grappling hook, while Laylee can fire sonic blasts and fly short distances.

A Splatoon Direct will air on May 7 at 10am ET/7am PT/16:00 CET, on various Nintendo Twitch channels, YouTube and Nintendo's website. The only thing promised so far is "new gameplay details" for the upcoming title.
