Finally, Major League Baseball has been called up from AAA.
After a few failed revivals and a year off, Major League Baseball is headed back to Switch.
MLB The Show 22 will come out on Switch April 5 - the same day as PlayStation and Xbox consoles, and five days after the intended Opening Day of the MLB season (the sport is in a lockout as of press time which may delay the season's opening). A digital deluxe version with access the preceding Friday will also be available.

Is it possible to do a Professor Oak Challenge in a game where Oak himself is still a half century from being born?
Prominent games we missed last week: Banjo-Kazooie getting added to Switch Online for Expansion Pack subscribers (for some reason), a trivia game literally endorsed by the publishing company that brought us For Dummies books. However, the real dummies are the people who propelled the North American release chart to a record 66 releases, which is why there was only one notable game from the shadowdrops.

Night Of The First Day (267+ Hours Remain)
The Switch Online Expansion Pack will meet with a terrible fate next month.
In a press release announcing the launch of Banjo-Kazooie on the Expansion Pack, Nintendo also confirmed that February's NSO+ title will be The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. The 2000 release will be the second of the two N64 Zeldas in the pack.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga - a LEGO retelling of the trilogy of trilogies in the unfathomably popular sci-fi universe - has finally received a release date of April 5. The game was originally announced during the last Microsoft E3 press conference in 2019 for a "2020" release.

Somehow not the biggest Microsoft-related gaming news of the day.
The bird and the bear are about to drop into the Switch Online expansion pack.
Nintendo have confirmed that Banjo-Kazooie will be available in an update to the Nintendo 64 app this Thursday (January 20). This will mark the first re-release on a Nintendo platform for the 1998 platformer.
Although Paper Mario launched last month alongside a Genesis update, no game has been identified for February.

The Switch had another monster December in the US, according to the latest sales survey released by the NPD Group.
All monthly sales based on the period of November 28 - January 1, and based on revenue unless noted. Third parties can contribute digital sales on the eShop though Nintendo themselves do not participate.

Some more over-the-top grappling action with a unique history has finally nailed down a release month for Switch.
A new trailer has been released for Action Arcade Wrestling, which previously released on Steam and PlayStation / Xbox consoles: the Switch version is due in February. The over-the-top wrestling game is claiming 60FPS performance in handheld mode, even with ten performers in the ring, and offers a cel-shaded art style.

Switch Online is continuing to offer game trials, and the next one may sway you toward a game in Nintendo's New Years sale.
North American Switch Online subscribers (Expansion Pass NOT required) will be able to play Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker for free this weekend. Unlike most game trials which provided a few day's notice, the trial period for Captain Toad will begin tomorrow at 1 p.m. ET and run until 2:59 a.m. on January 21.

In like a lion, out like a... whatever the hell Kirby is.
The "spring" release date for Kirby will actually be quite early in the month.
Nintendo have confirmed the fully 3D adventure will hit on March 25, with digital pre-orders now available. Players will have to rescue the entire Waddle Dee race.
2 player (local) co-op will also be available, with the second player controlling Bandana Waddle Dee.

Good news for fans of Japanese rail sims or shooters.
A couple of games whose localization was in question have suddenly appeared on the North American eShop.
Japanese Rail Sim 3D: Journey to Kyoto and shooter/slasher Radirgy Swag both released today in North America: Rail Sim is US$49.99/$64.99 while Radirgy Swag is $19.99/$24.99. Both titles are listed as published by Dispatch Games.
