The early bird catches the worm, you know. Well, you would if you pre-ordered a PS2 too late....
The word (or email) is that Babbages, Funcoland, and GameStop pre-order/reserve/whatever GameCubes as well. Hrm, aren't they all part of the same parent company? (Or at least retailing buddies of some sort. I've always wondered where games traded into Software Etc go, anyway)
I also got this in an email from one of our cooler readers:

And if you don't win, you can always use those batteries for the GB you already own...
NintendoWeb reports that you can enter to win a GBA (and receive it on March 21) with the purchase of at least ¥1000 worth of Panasonic batteries. In Japan, anyway. Maybe you could import the batteries, hmm?
It was announced today overseas that National/Panasonic is beginning a promotion in... Read more...

It's NEVER too early...
...unless my local one is some sort of weird exception, you can put down a mere ten bucks to guarantee yourself a GameCube at Software Etc. XBox, too. Oddly enough, there were XBox ads all over, and nary a GameCube one to be found. Peculiar. Anyway, get out there and guarantee yourself a GameCube without putting down the entire amount of some insane speculative price, dig it?

Hey, Buddy! Got some Yen to spare?
As much as loyalists may complain about some of Nintendo's business decisions, it's hard to argue with the bottom line. According to a Reuters news story, Nintendo is expected to post a nice profit for the period from April to September. Compare this to Sony and Sega and it becomes clear that Nintendo really knows what they're doing in the game industry. Click on the related link to see the whole story or just get the bottom line below.

Nintendo will have to seal the lid after this one!
Although we've pretty much known there'd be a new Metroid title for GameCube since back at Spaceworld, Retro Studios has FINALLY confirmed that info. The company actually had a page for Metroid up right after Spaceworld, with comments on the demo from IGN and other sources. However, the page was almost... Read more...

It looks like ATI forgot to update their controllers for Comedex... Remember to always check online for newer drivers!!!
A flurry of rumors arose recently amidst photos of an unusual GameCube controller that ATI showed at the Comdex show in Las Vegas. It's time to put those rumors at ease. A representative at ATI told PlanetN2000 that the unit shown at Comdex is only a mock-up unit, but he would not comment on the changes... Read more...

Gamespot had a Q&A session with Nintendo VP. click to see what he said!
Okay, maybe GameSpot didn't harass George Harrison (Nintendo VP of Marketing) too much, but they did get him to talk about Gamecube and Gameboy Advance in a recent interview...and knowing Nintendo's general reluctance to say anything about their new systems, I'm sure they had to use some form of coersion... Preorder your GC! I did it!
Pre-order 3 titles and a GC for $499.99. I wasn't going to post anything about this because I thought it was stupid. But after a couple of e-mails and death threats, as well as a few asking if this was a good deal...I decided it was relevant. I just felt it was rather odd since there hasn't been any official prices revealed. But here's the juice.

Come one, come all--and see the freak GC controller!!!!!
As part of its coverage of the Fall Comdex consumer electronics show, Firing Squad strolled by ATI's booth to discover a display dedicated to Nintendo's GameCube. As many of you may remember, ATI acquired Art-X not too long ago, bringing the company in on the ground floor of the console business.... Read more...

Two first from Nintendo: A Holiday poem!!! and it comes with rivalry-bashing!!!
This is twisted. Nintendo has written a little holiday poem. The twist is that it actually bashes Sony a bit. This is something we'd all thought Nintendo would never do. It's not vile or anything, but it is mean. Personally, I love it. I'm glad Nintendo is finally putting up their dukes. This one's for those Crash commercials! We want your opinions, so hit that talkback button and give it to us old skool style.

Only Rare could make a Disney-licensed racing game good!
Okay, fine, it's Mickey's Speedway USA. But when it comes down to it. It's Mickey Kart. Deal.
If you like Kart racing, you need this game. Period. As I said in my Holiday Preview, this game is excellent. I have played through the 50cc and 100cc courses and I am absolutely sucked into this game.... Read more...

Could it be that Rare is working on an online game?! It sure looks like it...
Those sly devils over at Tendo Box (two words!) have found a very intriguing print ad in EDGE, the infamous European gaming mag. It seems that Rare is looking for network experts. Hmmm...if you divide by fourteen and carry the three...oh sh!t, Rare's working on online games for GameCube! Hallelujah,... Read more...

Geez. That Pac series just keeps on going and going and going....
Finally, a break in the wall of silence that is next-gen Nintendo news. Developer Mass Media has announced that Pac-Man will be heading to the Gameboy Advance. They have not yet specified in what form the Pac will appear, classic form or the new form. Or maybe even better we'll get a Christmas Pac-Man game based on that delightful Pac-Man Cartoon Christmas Special. Well anyway, we here at the Planet are sure it'll be great.

See Imanishi. See Imanishi boast. Boast, Imanishi, boast!
Next-Gen Magazine has an interview with Hiroshi Imanishi, Hiroshi Yamauchi's associate, in the December Issue. It's a quicke but it talks about who Nintendo thinks their biggest rival is and it speaks of launch titles. It seems like Nintedo may be acting a bit arrogant proclaiming that GBA is their biggest rival.

The great Shigeru reminds us that Numbers aren't everything...
To say it's been slow in the news department lately might be a small understatement. So when something as nice as this comes along, it makes it that much sweeter. Here are a few tidbits to chew on during the Long Drought. Notice how Miyamoto-sensei says time and again that polygons alone don't make a difference and it is how the entire system works together that will be the true test.
