That's right. One of the six 3D Classics is Urban Champion and not something good.

Urban Champion is coming out as a 3D Classic in Japan on July 13 for 600 yen.

The simple one-on-one fighting game originally came out on the Famicom in 1984, and the NES in 1986.

It is the third 3D Classic to come out in Japan after Excitebike and Xevious. So far, six 3D Classics have been made. Only Excitebike has come out in North America and Europe.

Talkback

James was mentioning how Star Fox 64 3D should be labeled 3D classic. I'll say this shouldn't... it's not classic, just old. I understand the effort it takes to port these games into 3D and we should expect the early games first, but seriously, Urban Champion? They didn't even re-release that one for GBA in Japan.

Really? When this game was released on Virtual Console I think it was pretty much panned has being a terrible game, are they gonna charge people to play it again in 3D?

You think their be more care in the choices made for these.  I rather have LoZ as a 3DS classic.  Allow me to have mulitple items mapped.  BAM Insta-Improvement.

It could be worse -- THIS could have been the free 3D classic when the eShop launched and not Excitebike.

That is true.

Why do they think we want to play this? Did it sell really well on VC? I hated it the first time on NES.

I figure either Nintendo knows that Urban Champion is shit and is re-releasing it early because they know there is no chance in hell the game will sell alongside a better selection or the person in charge of this and the VC is clueless and doesn't know that is widely considered the worst game Nintendo ever made (aside from maybe DK Jr. Math, which is probably next).

Whatever happened to the phrase "to report, not decide"?

Aside from the abstract, it's reporting. If you noticed, our abstracts usually include our closest examples to snark. In this case, Urban Champion is so unbearably bad that it was worth making a pithy comment in the abstract.

i really gotta question Nintendo logic. Why waste money and time on this shit ? Is it popular in Japan or something? It's not like 3D would really make it neat looking either

I like Urban Champion and I cannot lie.  I'll be the only one, I guess.  Liked it back in the day, too.  Though, the Nintendo game I would love to see in 3D is Popeye.  Rights nightmare?  It was apparently on mobiles, but either it's been pulled or it didn't make it to the iPhone.

DK Jr. Math is better than this, by far.

That said, Urban Champion was re-released as an e-Reader title - and thus is awesome.

So its been on NES, eReader, VC, 3DS Classic.  Besides NES anyone see a trend here.
