The "Dolphin" lives on

by Billy Berghammer - 5:25 am EDT

It's true...the Dolphin name will live on with Nintendo's new console, games, and accessories!

One sort of minor but cool thing to note...but the serial #'s for Nintendo's new love have a much deeper meaning...

GameCube: DOL-S-VTA (JAPAN)

GameCube controller: DOL-003

Memory Card 59: DOL-A-MLG (JPN)

Luigi's Mansion: DOL-P-GLMJ (JPN)

Basically all launch items have the DOL as the first three characters.

Honey, I'm home! GC

by Billy Berghammer - 2:02 pm EDT

Louie trashed the place, and theirs s--t all over my keyboard. Not too surprising. Made it home safe, and now I'm Gleaming the Cube!

Damn, it's good to be back, and safely I might add. Special thanks to Northwest Airlines for getting me back in one piece. Also special thanks to customs for letting me get through quickly...and free. Word. Security was pretty tight, and people were rather tense. I think that's rather understandable.... Read more...

by Jonathan Metts - 8:55 am EDT
Source: Various

Pikmin.com is open for business, while NintendoGameCube.com has a new look and new info on the Cube Clubs.

Thanks to Nintendo Pulse, we now know that the initial Pikmin website has launched. There isn't much to it, but you can sign up to receive Pikmin news via email, and you get to hear some of the awesome Pikmin music (though the sample is very short and repetitive).

More interesting is the big... Read more...

Who says official magazines are worthless?

Our fellow website N-Gaming has the newest issue of Nintendo Official Magazine from Europe. The mag contains two very interesting passages about two of the most mysterious games shown at SpaceWorld.

On Mario Sunshine's backpack:

"We’ve since discovered that it is a water cannon, and that it will play a central part in the game."

I'm coming home Louie!

by Billy Berghammer - 8:34 am EDT

In about 14 hours from now, I board a plane home for PGC's world headquarters! Woohoo! Louie, you better kick the chicks out of there and clean the place!

That's right...I'm almost out of here. It's been an absolutely wonderful trip...but my final mission was accomplished on this trip, and I should be on my way home tomorrow. Keep me in your prayers that I get home safe. Boarding a plane right now isn't at all that appealing. But I think I'll be okay.

GameCube selling like hotcakes GC

by Billy Berghammer - 8:27 am EDT

Despite a rather small launch, the GameCube is flying off shelves. News direct from Japan!

I visited a few game shops today and witnessed a LOT more GameCubes selling. Almost more than what I witnessed during launch. Sure launch was a little smaller than I had anticipated, but I think since the word has gotten out that Nintendo has launched a system....people are buying it up.

I'm personally looking forward to seeing the numbers. But people are down with the NGC.

Controller shortage in Japan? GC

by Billy Berghammer - 8:22 am EDT

Well, it could be my fault really. I only bought 1.5 million controllers. Nintendo should have planned ahead!

It's true. GameCube controllers are hard to come by here. With two out of three games having four player possibilities...what did you expect?

I wouldn't be surprised if there's some sort of mark up on import controllers in the near future. That's not to say Nintendo will have more available soon. They better be well stocked for the rest of the world!

ATI gets branded on the GameCube GC

by Mike Sklens - 8:38 pm EDT

It seems that ATI wants to remind players that it's because of them that the GameCube has such fantastic graphics.

In a pretty bold move, Nintendo has placed the ATI logo directly on the GameCube unit itself. The logo appears on the front of the cube in the lower right hand corner. It simply reads "Graphics by ATI." Though this isn't exactly the latest news we thought that we'd repost about it and give you a picture of the logo directly off of Billy's GameCube.

Steven Kent on the Slow Launch

by Justin Nation - 3:46 pm EDT
Source: MSNBC

Steven Kent writes up his own thoughts and perspective on the launch and its lack of overwhelming enthusiasm. Oh, and it has some quotes by some weirdo...

Steven Kent, the mainstream press's favorite Nintendo evangelist (or is that only?) has written up his summation of the Nintendo launch. While he tries to paint the positives there is certainly a hint to the odd lack of people going wild when compared to most major hardware launches and Kent, too, comes to the point many have cited: A lack of Mario makes for a lack of interest.

BBC puts in a summary of the GameCube launch and the war ahead. Complete with comments by a special someone...

Though the Japanese GameCube launch may have not been as frenzied as hoped the media hasn't hesitated to give it some attention. Even in Europe where the GameCube launch has some time to go from now there's some positive coverage by the media as evidenced by this article... complete with a few quotes from a mysterious stranger.

Our readers over the big pond can now enjoy one of the biggest GBA releases yet.

European Nintendo fans are used to waiting forever to get the good games...and sometimes titles never show up at all over there. GameCube in Hand... Time For Rest GC

by Justin Nation - 4:43 pm EDT

Well, the time of the Japanese launch has finally come and gone. Get Billy's tired but happy thoughts...

Just got off the phone with Billy. He has what he came for, he's happy it is all over, and he's dog tired. While you'd think he would immediately try to plug and play he actually is contemplating a soothing shower and maybe a nap. Of course once he's got his second wind he wants to send in the pictures he took while in line and we'll try to have a collection of them up soon.

Exclusive: Take 2 sequels for GameCube! GC

by Max Lake - 1:04 pm EDT

“Take 2” has never been such an appropriate name for a company…

We’ve recently heard from Justin Anderson, one of our pals downunder, who has a very cool report! Several GAMECUBE games from Take 2 popping up on release lists for PAL countries next year. Although this is unconfirmed, it seems a good indication of what Take 2 may be planning for GameCube. The games are:

Denis Dyack Comments on RE Announcements GC

by Jonathan Metts - 12:50 pm EDT
Source: Silicon Knights

The president of Nintendo second-party Silicon Knights and creator of the upcoming Eternal Darkness offers his thoughts about Resident Evil on GameCube.

While covering the Resident Evil announcements at ungodly hours of the morning, one of the questions we asked ourselves was (somewhat jokingly), "What will Denis Dyack think of all this?" On one hand, he's developing what could be considered a competitor to the RE series...on the other hand, we know him to be a big fan of Capcom's survival-horror games.
