MSG3 got jacked from Sony's booth at E3
« on: May 16, 2004, 05:39:01 PM »
http://gamesradar.msn.co.uk - Found link of B3D forum

apparently two people broke the display case for the PS2, hit eject and stole the disk playing the MGS3 one level demo.  They then hightailed it out of the convention center and no one was able to stop them!!

edit: typo

That's one of the best things I've ever heard- expect to see the ISO up on the net soon.

Wow... remember when the GCN controller was stolen at the 2001 E3 and eneded up on Ebay?

This is not a good thing at all.  People may be happy for Nintendo because of a Sony major seller code being leaked but it's bad chiefly for Konami.  It's bad for the industry as a whole, I won't go to the lengths to explain why because I'm sure you can put the pieces together.  And lets not forget Konami supports N too.

I don't think it's likely that source code could be gotten from the playable demo, nor do I see how a couple of scamps with a mgs3 disc are going to break the industry

I remember, I think it was last year, some developer had some model figurines custom built based on their artist's descriptions, and their programming staff was using the figurines as a guide to constructing the polygon models of the characters.

They weren't even done using them yet, but they brought the models to E3, and had them in a showcase. Someone pulled a smash-and-grab, and ran off with them.

That sucked. Someone still needed those models. This is just a demo disk. Konami can just pound off another without blinking an eyelid. The only effect of this incedent is that some nerd did something that (as far as he knows) is more exciting than kissing a girl.
Poor people should eat wheat!
I'm about to go punk up some 3rd parties so they don't release games on other hardware, ciao!

so I guess we should just pretend Konami's titles for GBA don't exist and Konami never put any time, effort, or money into MGS:TS?  And Konami is not supporting the DS either right?

You can get alot from a demo disc of a title that is not to be released for over half a year.  Alot more than you can get from models made for a game.  The disc was intended to be played only to a select few, it was not intended to have everything about it including the code used in it to be handed to anyone in the world in this age of the internet.

Right, and that disc will probably only play on a select few machines, too- all those two guys got was basically the disc, since I'm fairly sure they have no means of actually playing it. It's the deed itself that is so extraordinary.

Also, Ian's right- Konami has seriously given Nintendo the cold shoulder over the years. Sure, they support the GBA but it's gotten to a point where you're stupid if you don't. Konami may have put effort into Twin Snakes, but remember that Silicon Knights put in even more effort, and that it was Nintendo that asked for a Metal Gear Solid game period. Besides Twin Snakes Konami acts like the Gamecube doesn't exist.

Gee, forgive me if I don't thank Konami for raking in the cash on the GBA We get ONE decent console game from Konami and Nintendo has to develop and advertise it. Gee thanks, Konami!

i'm not sure if you're thinking it's bad for the same reasons the half-life 2 source code leak was bad, but if so, it's not.  the half-life 2 source code could be used to hack into the game to cheat during multiplayer and other companies could use it the feasibly rip off ideas that valve had.  neither of these apply to the mgs3 demo disc, so it's not that huge of a deal.

Konami could have said no to Nintendo about the Twin Snakes.  But they agreed to let an entirely different company redo an inhouse game of theirs (their biggest inhouse game ever).  They also spent money, time, and effort into the game that they could've spent making their own inhouse games better.  They support the consoles they do because of what's best for their business, not because they want to give Sony or MS games and say haha to Nintendo.  They helped the NES & SNES succeed, without them Nintendo would be less of what it is today with less money to continue to do new things.  It pisses me off when people use the excuse that since they ditched the Cube, they deserve to have bad things happen to them.  This industry is what it is because of all the players, not just one company.

Joe, you're scrounging for a defense, which you shouldn't have to do if you were right. I used to think Konami was getting close to Nintendo, too, but it's starting to appear otherwise. Face it- Konami doesn't really care about the Gamecube. If they were a big supporter of Nintendo it'd be obvious, and the simple fact that there's a dispute proves Ian's point.

It's the reasoning that they ditched the Cube that sucks.  Konami DECIDED that the Cube wasn't worth supporting before it was even released yet they supported the Xbox which at the time was the riskier choice.  Their support could have helped the Cube but instead they gave us nothing and their self-fulfilling prophesy came true.  They said "our games aren't going to sell on the Cube" and then they did everything in their power to ensure that happened.  That's just a total "F*CK YOU" to Nintendo and the Nintendo fans that made Konami the success they are.

I am not scrounging for a defense at all.  I NEVER said I thought Konami was getting close to Nintendo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I never said they were a big supporter of the GC.  They're a supporter to GBA and the DS.  My point is that they could've said no to let a company situated thousands of miles away from them to redo the greatest title they ever made INHOUSE.  They had to spend money, time, & effort, and send Kojima to Canada instead of him working on his inhouse games in Japan in that timeframe.  They were instrumental in the success of the nes and snes and made games for them because it was the best business decision.  Now they're making games for the systems they do for the same business decisions they did before.  They made games for XB because it was the most powerful hardware, it's like when car manufacturers make supercars because they want to see how far they can take their ideas to the limit and gain insight for the future lower models.  They don't go out of their way to make things suck for the GC & I repeat I never said Konami cared about the GC.  You need to stop twisting around what I say and read the things I actually am saying.  You act as if I make absolutely no valid points at all, when what I state is painfully obvious.

And when theres a dispute about something it usually doesn't mean that one sides point is proven, it almost always means that theres a dispute for a reason.

Finally Konami supported N64 and they realized their games weren't selling on the Nintendo demographic.  Their decision to not support Nintendo was not a F*CK YOU to Nintendo, it was a business decision based on prior experience.  You shouldn't put support of one system or another into a personal context its business.
