s-u-p-e-r, i think your response was a little uncalled for.  if you don't have anything worthwhile to add to the discussion, perhaps responding isn't 100% necessary.  popkorn1 has some valid points and he didn't resort to saying "pgc sucks @55!!1".  i don't think childish name-calling is an appropriate response.

Actually, uh, popkorn's reason for disliking  PGC were all rather selfish, arrogant, and shallow. Maybe Ty wasn't entirely justified in his post, but satire can generally bring to light things you wouldn't have otherwise noticed.

Eh, maybe the guy's tastes just changed- I don't see why we should feel threatened he doesn't like PGC anymore. Grey Ninja doesn't like PGC anymore, either, but meh.

Well put.

So, he doesn't like PGC anymore there is really nothing we can do to change his mind. I mean let him get his Nintendo fix from Nintendojo, because we all know thats where the good stuff is.

But seriuosly, Ty's response there is a good example of the MAIN reason i like these forums.  The moderators are hard asses with good sense's of humor.  Ty singlehandedly takes a WAYYY overly melodramatic thread and makes me laugh.  BaPow, thats why I read 'em.

popkorn1, if you are still reading this, I hope it will help you to know that we are aware of all the problems you mention and have been working on solutions for a long time.

Some of them are very slow to come to fruition, like the site's redesign.  I think you will see that this summer, after E3.

The forum community suffered from our technical problems, because the forums are hosted on the same server as the rest of the site.  As our traffic rebuilds, the forums will become more active.  And I am thinking of ways to promote the forums so that new people join the fray, some of whom will bring valuable discussion.

I agree very much about spam against spam, and I'm going to do what I can to stop it.  If you see a thread you think should be locked, just let us know with the forum abuse tool...there's no need to reply in the thread at all.

I think our news coverage is much, much improved from what it was a few months ago, and we're still working on ways to bring it up to the former level of quality and more.  Sometimes we don't get news as quickly as other places because we are not getting the required information from publishers, and I'm trying to fix that right now.  Sometimes it's because we are trying to validate the information.  This has always been important for us at PGC, and it's why sometimes you will see us post news later than other sites even if we found it before they did.  We have a strict policy of finding the original source and verifying its reliability, and this process takes time.  Here is my goal for PGC news: "Usually we post first.  Always we post right."  When you come to PGC and read a news story, I want you to be sure that it's real.  Many of our competitors, though I will not name names and mean them no disrespect, cannot say as much.  Did you see the supposed screenshot of Wind Waker 2 the other day?  That's a very good example of what I mean.

You should use that as the site motto, and even put it under the Planet Gamecube logo instead of Worldwide Nintendo Coverage 24-7-356, just a thought.

I'd say our news coverage has been picking up very well recently. We've taken efforts recently to ensure this too.

I hate to toot our own horn but I'm absolutly sure we will have a kickass E3 again this year. We just flow with the show so well (especially with so many E3 vets on staff). Expect absolutly killer coverage of the big show.

So you have an extra slot then??!  JK

That blows Rick, classes? work? combination of both?  If only the internet could pay all of our bills.

Yes, a combination of both.  One of my classes is VERY intensive, and a single missed class would put me way behind.  I just can't afford to miss the class.  Work isn't as much of an issue, but it factors in as well.

Hey Rick, good luck with school man, we gotta chat...it's been too long.  Hit me up on AIM sometime, I'm always around.

I don't have a heck of a lot to add to this thread, just a couple of observations.

- I think the whole 2003 server problem thing was the equivalent of the baseball strike for PGC, it turned a lot of people off to our product.  The hardcore people always stayed with us but the casual readers decided our site was amateur night and went elsewhere.  I'm with all the other staff members when I say that I think things are definitely on an upswing.  If for no other reason than the fact that I'm back on staff LOL

- Always remember that real life takes precedence over this site for us.  I've known the guys here for a long time and they all bend over backwards for PGC in their free time for minimal rewards.  When one of us does something in real life that causes us to step into the background (like Rick going back to school), you gotta respect that.  The fact that this site has been up for 5 years with the same staff relatively intact is absolutely amazing when you think about it.  Enjoy PGC while it's here, because all good things come to an end.  Even on its worst day PGC is one of the best Nintendo fansites ever.

- As for Forums, just think up some good posts and things will take care of themselves.  Good posts breed good posts.  Lead by example.

later...

just wanted to suggest that if/when it comes time for a new face at pgc, please consider creating a preview page for us so we can see what it's going to look like and make suggestions for changes.  after seeing the new look of gamespy.com and ign.com it seems pretty clear that whoever designed these pages wasn't thinking clearly.  i'd hate to see great content ruined by horrible presentation.

lucky for us, neither gamespy.com or ign.com had all that great content, so not a whole lot is lost.

Not to mention GameFAQs- ugh, the new site design is disgusting. It has good content, too, so it's even worse.

You guys suck. You do realize that it's possible for more than one site to be good, no? As it stands Nintendojo and PGC are the only ones to properly source their articles and such. They've always been the two best Nintendo sites, and always will be. These other newer ones are a joke.
