I too am sick of people bashing games.  Everyone CRIES for more titles, and when Nintendo delivers a wide range of different genre's we bitch??!  Thats just stupid.  I don't want 6 mario platformers.  I want 1 or 2 great ones, and then mario golf, tennis, party, etc.  I LOVE DDR and I will be swallowing up ANY rhythm game than nintendo delivers on my console of choice.

Ok, things are starting to make sense.
I guess Donkey Konga is definitly the Namco game since Namco has made some drum games before. What probably happened is Namco was already planning a new drum game and simply convinced Nintendo to allow them to use DK characters in it to help it sell. Nintendo itself is still of course making the "2D meets 3D" DKC platform game that Miyamoto mentioned.
And, come to think of it, there already was an updated version of the original DK arcade game shown at E3 LAST year which I'm sure will eventually be released. If I recall correctly, it was actually a GBA game and simply used the Gamecube through the connectivity feature to design levels.
Maybe Nintendo will just convert it into an entirely GCN title and include it in a collection with Miyamoto's rendition of Pacman or maybe as a pre-order bonus for one of the bigger DK titles or something.
So, yeah, that's three entirely different Donkey Kong games we have to look forward to.

Konami actually would have been a better choice to make a DK music game. Just take a stroll into the arcade, and i'll betcha that all the music games are made by Konami. There's a drums one, a guitar one and a keyboard one, and bloody hell, you look like a damn pro when you play the super-mega-hard ones!

The updated "DK Arcade game" was Donkey Kong +, where you could make levels on the GC, then play them on your GBA.  However, Donkey Kong + disappeared for a while until it re-emerged as Mario and Donkey Kong at this year's E3.  It was only playable on one GBA, so it's unlikely the game will be out for a while.

Donkey Kong + was only a GBA version of the Super Game Boy game Donkey Kong(also known as Donkey Kong '95). Nintendo seem to have transformed this simple rehash into a completely new game.

I can't believe how many Nintendo hardcore fanboys are actually agreeing to this idea...I think this just burries Nintendo further into the hole, and I 'm not surprised why they are doing so bad. Nintendo needs to quit doing these "fresh" and "unique" ideas and stick with what did well for them in the past. In my opinion, I think they are tarnishing Donkey Kong's image even further...and when my friends see this game they'll laugh their, you know what off.

And why are they targetting the Japanese market? I believe they are having trouble in the US and Europe...they seem to be clearly second in Japan. They should really focus in those areas.

well if hardcore fanboys like the idea, and your suggesting nintendo not do it, by that simple deduction your saying nintendo should ignore its hardcore fans and keep rehashing whats worked in the past (ie endless sequels) im sure nitendo (isn't namco making this?) is capable of making more than 1 game at a time, so before you get your knickers in a twist, just wait for more information on this particular game AND a different nintendo game to come out for you to like.

how can some people be so close minded :\

For the record, Nintendo is second in Europe as well. There are indeed a few European countries where the GameCube isn't selling well, but overall the GameCube has sold more units than the X-Box.

You are just joking, aren't you?  Geez, I hope so.

God forbid we have a diverse and fun selection of games on the Gamecube!  Wouldn't that be horrible.  Heck, I might buy this game just to spite you whiney bitches.

How is making a filler niche title going to burry Nintendo? This ISNT the DK Plataformer, just another game with the DK
franchise... Even so, the DK Plataformer wont be the title to bring back Nintendo back to number 1.... More "mature" titles like
Geist, stuff from Silicon Knights ect will do that instead.

Why do you guys care who's "#1"? It doesn't make anything any better.

Come on, you guys have to admit that this sounds like a Play-Skool toy idea. Playing konga drums with "Donkey and friends"?   I honestly can't imagine myself sitting in my room and playing this thing.

Maybe you're just not familiar with how these kinds of games work.
It's not just some pointless, toy for kids where you just bang on drums.
These kinds of games are all about rhythm and are usually very challenging and require a lot of concentration and skill.
I doubt the drums will be required either. Like Samba De Amiga it will probably be playable with the standard controllers too.

My sentaments exactly, even if this game is getting lower scores than Superman 64 I would still buy it just to spite them all as well.

But that is probably just because I'm very spiteful.

This game is going to bomb bigger than superman 64.

I think Iwata commented on it, making this game official.
