If it's just for trimming and converting, GIMP is a better choice since it cost nothing.

As for trimming and converting, I like using IrfanView.

If you "right click" on that picture, and look at the "properties", you'll see that it's 728 x 90 pixels.

That's much too big. You need one that's less than 64 x 64.

Think "a little bit shorter", and then make it square.
