Metroid Movie

I wasn't exactly sure which section to post this in, so I stuck it here.

Anyway, I was reading the thread on the Zelda movie (in the Zelda section, duh), and, from what I read, the movie is mostly speculation.

But the Metroid movie is not speculation, and I'm sure that alot of people, me among them, are very interested to see how it turns out.

Has there been any news about the movie lately?  Was it cancelled? (I haven't heard anything about it in a while).Live action, or computer animated?

the people who had the rights let them expire, which means they didn't do anything with the rights so as much to make a movie for the period of time they held the rights.  So no movie unless someone else decides to pick up the rights.

That sucks, I had a Metroid movie in my mind perfectly! I remember threads on several boards a while back speculating who would play Samus Aran.

Your right, I don't see a way it could be good, and if anything it would hurt Nintendo by convincing people that the Metroid series is bad (which it is anything but).  I was just curious as to how it would turn out.  I kinda want it to be released in an alternate dimension, and the suddenly I'm transported there so only I could see it and nobody from this world could.

But then no one in that dimension would buy Metroid games!  Oh no!

It'd be interesting to see how it turned out, but they couldn't have made a whole movie on it without ruining Samus, the series, or the movie.  And most probably all three.

Look at the Tomb Raider movie and how well Angel of Darkness is selling, and they're BOTH bad! A Metroid movie probably would be pretty bad, but it would give the next Metroid game a LOT of publicity.

Well Lara is slightly less modest than Samus.  Resulting in more sales.  Poor little Samus.

It's because Lara is hot and people like looking at polygonal boobs.  Samus in in a suit and you have to beat the game to see he out of it.

And Samus could kick Lara's cute little...I mean, kick her sorry little behind!

Image has nothing to do with the popularity of Angel of Darkness and the movie- the series got renewed interested BECAUSE of the movie, which sucked. That renewed interested caused the newest game, which also sucks, to sell well. Not everything is about image, people. This is all about publicity.

Besides, look at that crappy Mario brothers movie- certainly didn't hurt sales of SM64 and there's NO polygonal boobs in either of them.

I think a Metroid movie is a great idea.  It depends on a lot of things, whether it will be done right or not.  It could turn out really badly:  if the makers emphasize the wrong things, like nice fancy camerawork and CGI effects, if they do not pick good actors that take it seriously, if the characters in the movie don't seem like real people, for instance.  The movie should be a lot more than just great action scenes.  (I am afraid that could happen).  It has to have depth, although of course the movie is limited to the story and world from the games.  The story and the characters acting it out have to be serious, you have to care about what's happening.  But, even tho too much seriousness could probably seem overkill, at the same time you can have enough seriousness without going too far with it, because it IS a game-based story and world afterall.  As far as the story itself, who knows - what is mostly important is how it is implimented: the cinematographer, director!, production designer, lighting artist, and of course the screenplay writer are all the most important parts.  Sorry if i'm being long winded!

is it really dead? didnt John Woo grab the rights for the movie? I read in the "Club Nintendo" magazine that he no longer had them (Club Nintendo is like our version here in latinamerica for Nintendo Power), but it isnt the most reliable source to be honest.

It probably won't happen.  But, if it did, I hope they use the Justin Bailey code.
