I mean just look at all of these wonderful posts made in the past few hours:

Well, what was the last post?

With how my Link one went I have a feeling that if I get the charizard one I'll end up recreating a scene from Pokemon: The First Movie.

Ok then, and the person who made that post is... oh right it's me... that's awkward.

There has been 38 posts made today (depending on your time zone I suppose) and this will make 39. Not the most prolific day for sure.

Most of those posts were made in the Podcast forum or in the console forum. If you don't listen to the podcasts, those discussions will have little interest to you. As for the console forums, if Project Cars, 90's Arcade Racer or a dragged out awful discussion on a universal game machine in the sales thread sound appealing to you, then you're in luck! If not, you're going to want to run, not walk, out of that forum to get away from the boredom that will numb your skull just from looking at those thread titles.

While I'd like to point the finger at marvel moviefan 2012 for seemingly helping contribute to this problem with his opinions on Star Wars, Steam Machine, and universal machines, (with a dash of Nebraska Agriculture if you know what I mean), the truth is everyone (except me, of course) is responsible for the state this forum is in. There are a lot of people making some pretty boring topics or just continuing some pretty boring conversations because that's all there is to talk about. But chances are most people using these boards just aren't posting anything because they don't feel there is anything worth them contributing towards.

Today's headlines: Majora's Mask 3D preview and Box Boy Review. Yesterday's topics: A new RFN episode, the 2nd Mario Amiibo is a Mario Party 10 bundle exclusive, Family Tennis SP review and, here's where the action is, Retro City Rampage: DX Update coming in February. We are clearly riding a high crest of Nintendo news and high profile releases.

So, if you can't rely on the news and you can't do much with the current topics up for discussion, what can you do? To quote Mad Men, "If you don't like what they're saying, change the conversation." Don't just wait for Zap and myself to create the next great forum thread again and again. Sure, we do it all the time (and maybe someone like BlackNMild2k1 or UncleBob gets lucky once in awhile too) but it gets tiring carrying these forums on our backs. It would be nice if other posters gave us stuff to work with instead of having to do all the work ourselves. I'm scouring everything on this site to find some new inspiration for a potentially comical situation but some of the stuff I'm being left to work with... ho boy. "No. $59.99 for bundle and $49.99 for stand-alone game." That's a real post from today. What am I supposed to do with that? Tell me please how this is conducive to conversation. In a weird meta-sort of way, I think I just showed how. That's how good I am.

Back on track, change the conversation. Post something you feel like talking about or would like to see a discussion about. If it fails to gain any posts, whatever. At least you tried and it was different. Maybe another topic will spark more interest. Post some silly stuff even if it doesn't have much of a point. Just goofing around can also cause others to join in on the fun and get something started that way. If you don't know how to change the conversation to something else from what is currently going on in a thread, start a new thread. Screw mega-threads. If a thread is so redundant that it needs to be combined into another existing thread, that's for the mods to judge. It's been proven on this forum already that we could have 3 nearly exact same topics at the same time and still have a different conversation and feel to all of them. Don't wait for others. Just post what's in your heart. If you post it, they will come.

A good portion of the US is also in a giant snowstorm. They're more worried about if they'll have power or how they're getting to work tomorrow.

Or, y'know, they're actually PLAYING GAMES. *gasp*

The person asked a question and I answered it. What was I supposed to do, like, not answer it? I didn't see you or anyone else offering up an answer.

None of this seems any more mind-numbing than a conversation about filling up the catalogue in an Animal Crossing game...

I knew it! You're getting revenged for being banned all these years ago.

Whoa! What's the ambush?! I didn't use any names. How do you know that post is yours?! It could have been anybody's. Maybe it was my own. I was just using it as an example to make a statement and as the spoiler showed, finding a way to make it do something I was claiming was hard to do and that is make a bigger talking point out of it. That post turned out to be all good. Look at how much more conversation and posting it has caused already.

As for what you are supposed to do when someone asked a question, the correct thing to do is to tell them to get lost, drop dead and go suck an egg or some such variation. There's plenty of answers one could give that could be used as a building block for more outrageous answers. Or there's always the craAaAaAazZzZzZyyyy approach in which you just directly give the person the proper answer they are looking for. So, for instance, if someone wanted to know the price of a game, you could post an answer which states the actual price for them. I don't know why you'd be paralyzed as to how to respond to another poster asking a question and be wondering what to do. Maybe it's just something that comes from experience. Maybe as you get a few more posts under your feet on these forums, you'll be more able to handle these situations without having to ask about what to do. But don't worry. We know you're still new to these forums so as long time posters understand it takes awhile to learn the ropes. Glad to help you.

And what's with the feeble attempt of trying to claim a Animal Crossing trading thread as boring? I notice that one such thread created by someone on these forums named "Khushrenada" (hope I'm spelling that right) happens to be the second biggest thread in replies and views in all of the Matchmaking and SmackTalk forum's sad history. Clearly, hundreds, thousands, millions of users, (No, wait. Thousands was right the first time), find that topic very interesting. Just because you are .000000001% of the population who finds it boring does not mean that the topic is not interesting.

Er, well, I was using the universal "I," just, uh, defending whoever might have made that post in question. Not saying it was me.

I didn't use any names either when I mentioned the Animal Crossing thread. And despite the number of replies, it's had like, four people total who posted in it. Clearly the work of spammers. And I don't think you spelled it right, pretty sure it's "Krushenada."

Don't you hate it when you make big posts and someone just replies with a few lines?

Oh well, then. My mistake. I misunderstood how you were saying that.

I always make that mistake. However, I'm well aware there are other Animal Crossing threads in that forum. That's part of my point in stating that filling up a catalogue is clearly an interesting discussion since there are many others on that topic. I just used the Kruchramada thread as it is the first thread shown in the forum with recent replies so I figured it was a good example of my point. I didn't look into the thread that much so I can't comment as to it's content so I'm not going to debate you on something with which I haven't done any research on there.

Not really. I just take it to mean I'm more knowledgeable about things and therefore have more that I can say on a matter than other people. We all have our strengths and weaknesses and I guess I just have no weaknesses.

This goes back to what said in the other thread, but you asked a good question what is crossing the line? I seriously want to know what do people want in a discussion. I make every attempt to contribute to threads that are interesting to me and I end up turning them into arguments and I don't mean to. Especially when Mop it Up is involved we seem to disagree on everything even when I think we are trying to get along.

I am asking a genuine question because as you know I seriously lack people skills and its easy forget there are people on the other sides of those usernames. I sometimes read what I write and cringe, what the hell was I thinking. Then I stop by this place and remember that people are inconsistent. As controversial as this might be I would actually move for removing the funhouse entirely. It has caused more trouble than it is worth, we can have joke posts in General chat as long as we keep it respectable but when you have a sub forum where pretty much anything goes and that is where most people hang out it kind of corrupts the users who do frequent this site. Then there is the mafia game stuff that used to take place in the funhouse because, as far as I can tell, that is what the funhouse was supposed to be a place for forum games and it has turned into an anything goes, look at the most popular thread its all about giving people a hard time over their mistakes. No wonder newbies don't stick around they see their comments show up here and get scrutinized outside of the normal reactions people make in the appropriate threads.

the problem isn't what goes on inside the funhouse its that people don't turn it off, they get this idea that how people act in there is how they should act everywhere and it spills over. Its hard to tell who is being serious and when until someone blows up or loses their cool.

What's the difference between General Chat and this forum? Topics seem to be random and/or with purpose on both lately.

I am not entirely sure but once upon a time the Funhouse used to be a place for forum games and general goofing off. Then it turned into a place for Mafia games and all other games died out so Mafia was spun into its own forum and General chat was basically where the funhouse posters went to avoid their posts being lost during the Mafia take over. Now the site has paid the price for that earlier chaos. Also the Funhouse used to have a leader, some dude named superty he left apparently and with his absence the place has lost its purpose. Or so the legend goes.
