There has been 38 posts made today (depending on your time zone I suppose) and this will make 39. Not the most prolific day for sure.
Most of those posts were made in the Podcast forum or in the console forum. If you don't listen to the podcasts, those discussions will have little interest to you. As for the console forums, if Project Cars, 90's Arcade Racer or a dragged out awful discussion on a universal game machine in the sales thread sound appealing to you, then you're in luck! If not, you're going to want to run, not walk, out of that forum to get away from the boredom that will numb your skull just from looking at those thread titles.
While I'd like to point the finger at marvel moviefan 2012 for seemingly helping contribute to this problem with his opinions on Star Wars, Steam Machine, and universal machines, (with a dash of Nebraska Agriculture if you know what I mean), the truth is everyone (except me, of course) is responsible for the state this forum is in. There are a lot of people making some pretty boring topics or just continuing some pretty boring conversations because that's all there is to talk about. But chances are most people using these boards just aren't posting anything because they don't feel there is anything worth them contributing towards.
Today's headlines: Majora's Mask 3D preview and Box Boy Review. Yesterday's topics: A new RFN episode, the 2nd Mario Amiibo is a Mario Party 10 bundle exclusive, Family Tennis SP review and, here's where the action is, Retro City Rampage: DX Update coming in February. We are clearly riding a high crest of Nintendo news and high profile releases.
So, if you can't rely on the news and you can't do much with the current topics up for discussion, what can you do? To quote Mad Men, "If you don't like what they're saying, change the conversation." Don't just wait for Zap and myself to create the next great forum thread again and again. Sure, we do it all the time (and maybe someone like BlackNMild2k1 or UncleBob gets lucky once in awhile too) but it gets tiring carrying these forums on our backs. It would be nice if other posters gave us stuff to work with instead of having to do all the work ourselves. I'm scouring everything on this site to find some new inspiration for a potentially comical situation but some of the stuff I'm being left to work with... ho boy. "No. $59.99 for bundle and $49.99 for stand-alone game." That's a real post from today. What am I supposed to do with that? Tell me please how this is conducive to conversation. In a weird meta-sort of way, I think I just showed how. That's how good I am.
Back on track, change the conversation. Post something you feel like talking about or would like to see a discussion about. If it fails to gain any posts, whatever. At least you tried and it was different. Maybe another topic will spark more interest. Post some silly stuff even if it doesn't have much of a point. Just goofing around can also cause others to join in on the fun and get something started that way. If you don't know how to change the conversation to something else from what is currently going on in a thread, start a new thread. Screw mega-threads. If a thread is so redundant that it needs to be combined into another existing thread, that's for the mods to judge. It's been proven on this forum already that we could have 3 nearly exact same topics at the same time and still have a different conversation and feel to all of them. Don't wait for others. Just post what's in your heart. If you post it, they will come.
