I'm sure I've stated my views of GSN a few times in the past on this board. But it's been awhile and reposting the same thing over and over hasn't stopped Ian Sane, so why should I hold back?
Basically, from 1997-2002, Game Show Network was at its peak. It was full of classic games and shows. Black and White Password, Password Plus, To Tell the Truth, What's Your Line, Richard Dawson Family Feud, Match Game 72-79, 80's The Price is Right, recent Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. It was a plethora of great games shows along with the lesser ones like Joker's Wild, Tattletales, The Newlywed Game, Hollywood Squares.
However, then they began to start making their own game shows and acquiring more recent stuff like the Regis editions of Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?, New Family Feud, 1 vs 100, Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader, Deal or No Deal, etc. They let the real, classic and good game shows go to the wayside. I know it's a money thing as it is probably cheaper to air those than the classic stuff (which blows my mind) but the quality sucks compared to them. The only original program I ever like of theirs was Lingo. That one actually got it right.
Once in awhile, they would even slip in an episode of The Gong Show which I thought was amazing. It was my type of humour. Alas, the channel soon slid into mediocrity about the time they stopped airing The Price is Right and Lingo came on. But for awhile, Game Show Network was all I needed. I'd come home from school and just watch it straight or record shows during the day and watch them later. I was a Game Show Junkie.
