Female Translation vs Male Translation - True or Not

WTF is wrong with you man!?
Actually, that sounds about right...
I agree with one, but not the other
I wrote a paper on that in College!!
Sounds like a Lost in Translation Theory?

My Translation Theory
« on: May 13, 2014, 05:39:10 PM »
I was having a debate about a female, and brought up my Female translation theory. To this she said I was "womanizing" to which I corrected her to say she thought I was being "chauvinistic", even though I followed it up with my Male Translation theory as well.

Female Translation Theory: When a male starts talking, there is a certain type of woman, that will take in everything that he is saying, but in their mind they will replace almost all the words with what they wanted to hear, or what they thought you were going to say...

so upon revisiting the conversation, the topic may be the same, but the recollection of debate is very different than what happened. Context is often removed as well as meaning.

Male Translation Theory: When a female starts talking, there is a certain type of man, that will take in everything that she is saying, but at some point start to zone it out and either replace it with a "blah blah blah" or effectively tune it out to nothing more than a faint background noise.

so upon revisiting the conversation, he has no idea what the hell you are talking about and will probably defend the stance that you never said that.

Now that is not to say that only a female can have the female translation, or only a male will have the male translation, but generally, that is how I've seen it paired off, with a cross translation here or there.

Does this sound like something accurate, similar to something you've heard before, completely off-base, or just mildly amusing to hear as you've never thought or heard about it before?

I can attest that my wife exhibits those traits when we argue, but is more likely to clearly interpret what I say otherwise.  In those moments, her goal is to hear what she wants to hear when I speak so she can continue fighting so she can "win" the argument.  Usually best to just stop fighting and walk away for a while to let her cool down, at that point.

On the other hand, the male translation theory only applies when I'm trying to do something (clean, play video games, get work done), and my wife tries to hold a substantial conversation while I'm in the middle of something.  it's not that I'm trying to ignore her, it's just that I'm already heavily engaged in something, and I'm terrible at multitasking if I'm actually heavily engaged in something, so in those cases she just comes out sounding like the adults in peanuts.

nobody ever hears me when I speak so I always look like I am talking to myself. It gets annoying but I think your theory makes some sense.
Trying to be a better person, honest.

I was reading an interesting piece in my English class from an older woman who says the problem with females today is that they focus on being "right" over going after what is best and this can hurt the successes of women overall. This fits my wife in a lot of ways. I feel like I am a hostage negotiator and eventually can talk my wife down to a calmer, more logical state and then she will agree with me. She just wants to feel her voice is heard.

They have done scientific studies that have proven that guys are not true multitaskers like women can be. If they are focused one one thing, like a TV show or a book, they just DO NOT PROCESS a person talking to them. My wife thinks it is just an excuse but it is very true. If I am focused on something I will sometimes realize I am hearing a voice but the words do not form in my head. Women, because of how they are, tend to assume this is an active choice being made because they regularly choose to ignore things and are more wired to multitask properly.

The most important thing it to try and understand each other's language and meet each others needs in the middle.

What's funny is that I never studied any of that, it was just a topic that came up randomly, and I decided to post my thoughts on the issue. It was all off the top of my head. No random study necessary, anecdotal facts are all I need.

This whole thread is sexist, and you should all be ashamed of yourselves.

That being said, it's totally true.  I hate when I'm in an argument and try to show an example of what's going on only to be accused of accusing or putting words in mouths.  The purpose behind my words being lost and only a weird mutation of them remaining.

And I totally have trouble focusing on a conversation while doing something else.  This almost always leads to me "getting distracted" and the lady getting frustrated and not talking, which causes me to be bored, creating a vicious cycle.

I honestly have considered for a good 10 years now recording every conversation I have and sending it through voice recognition software for a transcript every night.  It is pretty regular where people have said that I said X when I know I said Y and it leads to problems.

Have you ever watched the UK show Black Mirror?
I just watched both series (3eps each). It's a series that dives into the future implications of technology on the social aspects of our society. It's described as a The Twilight Zone style show.
There is an episode where most everyone has implants that record your every waking moment. Everything that you see, everything that you hear is recorded, whether you realized you saw it & heard it or not. You can also play it back for others to see.... allowing you to relive moments, or dwell in them for eternity.
They quickly delve into the darkside of this (as that's what the series is mostly about. Technological idea of today becoming the focus of our not so distant futures.) and you can see how this might go wrong. It's a very interesting series. You should check it out.

If that interests you then I would recommend that you give the movie The Final Cut a watch.  Very much the same principle.

I'll have to find it and give it a chance.  Is it on Netflix?

I've done something similar but with other people's conversations. I like to stay informed.

I've seen that movie before a long time ago, maybe I'll watch it again to refresh myself.
