I've been smited nearly 10 times today, which is just sad. I don't care about the score, mind you, but it's just depressing to me that someone has the time and energy to devote to that. Maybe if I got rid of the karma system that person would find something less horribly pathetic to devote their energy to.

Perhaps. I do realize that if every poster applied it, the forums would probably be even more quiet than they can be right now. Even I make joke posts and threads as well for fun. But even if you applied that advice 25% of the time, you'd probably get a lot less of a hard time that you get now and hopefully make you more selective of when you post. Meaning that instead of posting everywhere and on everything just because you'll can, you would instead be more selective and only post if you thought what you were going to say was a really good point, help further discussion or would be considered really funny by other people. Quality not quantity.

i've also heard that tier lists are bad for variety in tournaments...
