The main difference between MSNBC and FAUX NEWS is that the opinion-people on MSNBC are intelligent. Also, go to FAUX NEWS's site without an ad-blocker on and you'll see just how criminally stupid they are.

You know, I have no love for FOX News, but I equate those who use "FAUX News" to those who say "M$"... :(

It's catchy, UB, but I'll refrain if it offends you. It just works so well because of what they present though.

It doesn't "offend" me, per se.  Just like "M$" doesn't "offend" me.

It's just... it stopped being clever a long time ago.  It's like *that* joke, you've heard your buddy tell a thousand times over... and it was never very funny to begin with.

NBC News is the polite face of the real force, MSNBC. NBC News is simply MSNBC with its shirt tucked in. MSNBC is the revealed id.

And then it will be like North Korea. No society has succeeded with something other than capitalism. And there are good media outlets (like MSNBC and some CNN programs).

I watch the BBC, and CCTV. I like watching both Rachel Maddow and Bill O'Reily. I always liked to get news from multiple sources, just to see how they spin the news. When Glen Beck was on Fox news it was hilarious, because how the **** does that guy have this sort of job? Fox and Friends are a group of people I would like to collectively punch.

I've always had a passive interest in Journalism ever since the Daily Radar vs IGN wars.

O'Reilly is entertaining when he's not spewing his agenda, but you can never watch him for an hour without cringing. Glen Beck is now a jeans salesman, so that should give you an idea of what happens to you when Fox thinks you're too extreme. BBC is a good source too, but I don't get around to watching it enough. Like I said though, MSNBC might be biased too, but at least they are intelligent. Shepard Smith is probably the only decent human being on Fox, MSNBC has been scouting him, but Fox has him by the moneyballs.

TV news sucks. Also finding unbiased news is pretty much impossible. Go to a bunch of news websites, get their rss feeds then use an RSS aggregator like feedly to combine it into one news source. Also always check the source if it is linked and have at least a superficial familiarity of think tanks/research institutes etc.. that journalists will cite.

some useful links:

http://openparliament.ca/ <-keep track of issues and your member of parliament (Canadian federal gov't) most of this is taken from Hansard transcripts and made into a more user friendly format than the official website.

The Canadian Parliament website <- hansard transcripts etc.

edit: found links to Provincial Hansard websites on the BC Hansard website

people from the UK can use this site which is similar to open parliament although, not being from the UK i never used it: http://www.theyworkforyou.com/

shortcut: Enroll in Funhouse University's department of sociology

That really depends on how you define "something other than capitalism". You could easily argue that what China's doing now is something other than capitalism, or some of the countries in Northern Europe. And most of the failures of non-capitalist systems came in countries with a lot of other problems. Really though, pretty much everybody in the world uses some kind of a hybrid, which has proven to be the most stable and successful.

BBC is usually a decent news source.

The Soviet Union would have become a utopia if it wasn't for that pesky Ronald Reagan! We just need to try it again!

The Soviet Union was tremendously successful for a little while there. They turned a poor, backwards country into an industrial power. Who knows what would have happened if they hadn't had to funnel all their resources into an arms race. I don't know about a utopia, but it could have turned out better than it did.

I sure don't see a lot of countries succeeding with capitalism either. Unless the rich getting richer at the expense of our planet's well being is success in your mind.
