The main difference between MSNBC and FAUX NEWS is that the opinion-people on MSNBC are intelligent. Also, go to FAUX NEWS's site without an ad-blocker on and you'll see just how criminally stupid they are.

I watch the BBC, and CCTV. I like watching both Rachel Maddow and Bill O'Reily. I always liked to get news from multiple sources, just to see how they spin the news. When Glen Beck was on Fox news it was hilarious, because how the **** does that guy have this sort of job? Fox and Friends are a group of people I would like to collectively punch.

I've always had a passive interest in Journalism ever since the Daily Radar vs IGN wars.

O'Reilly is entertaining when he's not spewing his agenda, but you can never watch him for an hour without cringing. Glen Beck is now a jeans salesman, so that should give you an idea of what happens to you when Fox thinks you're too extreme. BBC is a good source too, but I don't get around to watching it enough. Like I said though, MSNBC might be biased too, but at least they are intelligent. Shepard Smith is probably the only decent human being on Fox, MSNBC has been scouting him, but Fox has him by the moneyballs.

TV news sucks. Also finding unbiased news is pretty much impossible. Go to a bunch of news websites, get their rss feeds then use an RSS aggregator like feedly to combine it into one news source. Also always check the source if it is linked and have at least a superficial familiarity of think tanks/research institutes etc.. that journalists will cite.

some useful links:

http://openparliament.ca/ <-keep track of issues and your member of parliament (Canadian federal gov't) most of this is taken from Hansard transcripts and made into a more user friendly format than the official website.

The Canadian Parliament website <- hansard transcripts etc.

edit: found links to Provincial Hansard websites on the BC Hansard website

people from the UK can use this site which is similar to open parliament although, not being from the UK i never used it: http://www.theyworkforyou.com/

shortcut: Enroll in Funhouse University's department of sociology

And then it will be like North Korea. No society has succeeded with something other than capitalism. And there are good media outlets (like MSNBC and some CNN programs).

That really depends on how you define "something other than capitalism". You could easily argue that what China's doing now is something other than capitalism, or some of the countries in Northern Europe. And most of the failures of non-capitalist systems came in countries with a lot of other problems. Really though, pretty much everybody in the world uses some kind of a hybrid, which has proven to be the most stable and successful.

The Soviet Union was tremendously successful for a little while there. They turned a poor, backwards country into an industrial power. Who knows what would have happened if they hadn't had to funnel all their resources into an arms race. I don't know about a utopia, but it could have turned out better than it did.

government that benefits the people is the best type of government

there are two types of governments Functional and Dysfunctional. The system doesn't matter. A monarchy can be a good system if the monarchs make their subjects rich. Democracy is great on paper, but it can devolve into dysfunctionality and misinformation.

Let's examine the historic ratios of failed communist countries per total versus the failed capitalist countries per total.

Basically every communist country got that way because of a revolution, which was able to happen because of the poor conditions in the country. They were predisposed toward failure. That and the smaller sample size would skew those numbers. And like I said, talking about it like things are black and white between capitalism and socialism is stupid, because pretty much every country is a hybrid of the two.

I think most experts agree that communism works in theory, but it has never worked in practice. The only successful communist country is China, and they have largely embraced capitalism and blended it in with communism for a weird mixture.

I would never argue there weren't massive problems with the Soviet Union; I was only pointing out that they had some successes as well. I would, however, argue that those problems aren't endemic to that system and were dependent in the situation at the time.

Like I said, the countries have become communist because conditions were bad enough that the people supported revolutions. Those countries had already bombed. I'm not saying it's great or even that it works at all, but saying it doesn't work at all after a few failed states switched to it and failed again doesn't make sense. If we see successful countries peacefully transition to it (give Scandinavia a few decades) and it still consistently fails, then we know for sure.
