the mk video was sorta an acting artists demo reel, it is not produced by the mk people. Just a bunch of actors getting together to make **** they thought was cool. Thats at leas what Michael Jai White says on IGNMovies

If you guys are interested, we got some Eyes-On time with the game at the show. Sneak Peek. If you have any questions feel free to leave a comment for Jason, he'll be able to let you know about the demo better than I will because I wasn't there.

The general consensus from him was that it was really awesome looking. A lot of the concepts from the Vs. series were applied, including tag-team matches and rampant juggling. This, of course, was in addition to the core concepts of Mortal Kombat, particularly special moves and fatalities.

So...Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection releases on Tuesday (XBLA and PSN)...there's a pretty good chance I'll be getting it for both (even though I have a JTAG'ed 360 that plays MAME 0.72 perfectly, and thusly I already have all of these games on the 360) to play online, but at the same time I kind of don't want to because if you go on YouTube, there are some pretty insane players for the older games, pulling off crap that nobody knew about almost 20 years ago. Also, I already bought MK2 for PSN and UMK3 for XBLA ($10 each), so I think I should get MKAK for free, since it only costs $10. Oh well, just wondering if there were any old school MK freaks like myself that are excited for this.

I would assume that most people who want these games probably own them already since all 3 games have been on XBLA and PSN for years. It's a good deal for those who don't though and enjoy the 2D games. I was never much of a MK fan though, always found it to be inferior to Street Fighter.

The existing ports are pretty awful, you can't even configure your buttons on the old ones and they don't have any good features or anything as far as I remember.

The question I have is, will it use GGPO? If not, why the hell not?

Mortal Kombat was never released on XBLA or PSN, MK2 was never on XBLA, and UMK3 was never on PSN. I don't know where you got that information from. Maybe you're thinking of Midway Arcade Treasures 2 (for GameCUbe,  Xbox and PS2), which had MK2 and MK3. MK2 also came with MK Shaolin Monks, MK1 came with MK Deception Kollector's Edition (Xbox, I think UMK3 came with the PS2 version)...but only MK2 was ever on PSN, and only UMK3 was ever on XBLA.

It's listed as a PC release as well. It'll definitely be worth getting. My old copy of Trilogy doesn't have online play. :)

Maybe decent sales will persuade Warner Brothers to push out a PC port of MK9 as well.

Of course everyone with get the PC version...my assumption is that if I buy the PS3 and 360 versions...then I've earned myself a free 3rd copy.

I can't wait for tomorrow! This will be my first time playing an arcade perfect version of MK1 on a tv. I just really hope that they let you change the button layout unlike UMK3 on XBLA, because I want to use my SFIV controller with this like I did MK 2011.

Wow, that's pathetic. I imagine it's something that can be fixed though. UMK3 was made "ported" by a different company on XBLA back in the day, and I never had any problems with it online, played just as well as local multiplayer.

Yeah, I don't really remember old UMK3 being that bad when I played it online either. There's no excuse for this **** anymore. Eurgh.

I can understand people being mad with lag or slow down but when people are nitpicking about the uppercut sound not being the exact same as the arcade then that's a little ridiculous. I tried the trial version on XBL and from the limited amount that you can play it seemed to play fine but I'm curious about the process it took to put this together. Two of the games were already on online capable systems so why are there horrendous problems now?

I'm reading a thread about it on another forum and there's apparently a number of pretty horrible sound/emulation bugs. It sounds like they half-assed the whole thing. It's a real mess.

Meh. Just get a JTAG'ed 360 and use MAME 0.72. It's free, and there are no bugs...and there are plenty of video filters to make the games looks a lot nicer. I will say this though - the "bezels" on the MKAK are pretty fucking rad though.

No... We've had post-release patches and shareware addons since before Doom. ;)

NetherRealm really should have put together their own HD remix of Mortal Kombat Trilogy instead.

LOL, that just says that PC developer have been lazy for 20+ years since they think it's OK to release a game full of bugs and glitches since they can release patches after.

No one is perfect. Problems can arise, and it's much better to be able to to fix them afterwards than leave everyone will an infinitely defective product. Besides, PC developers have a long history of actually adding more content to games in updates, not just big fixes. It's pretty common place to get new maps, new game modes, etc... all for free. :)

Yeah, so MKAK can't even hold a candle to MAME on Xbox 360. It's not even as good as the individual ports of UMK3 on XBLA and MK2 on PSN...it's really not even as good as Midway Arcade Treasures 2 (or Extended Play on PSP). If you don't own any of the other versions, and don't have a JTAG'ed Xbox (holler at me), then I recommend it of course. It is nice to have all three games together, but some of the issues are just plain silly. The sound is off in all of the games, the graphics filters suck, and the online issues (haven't played online though) are just inexcusable. If I had some fancy recording equipment I'd do a video comparison between MKAK and MAME running any of the games. It's just crazy that some people who spent a little bit of time, and got paid absolutely nothing, can pull off a better job than paid developers who WORKED WITH THE PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY MADE THE GAMES. I still maintain that the virtual bezels (and the game's icon) in MKAK are fucking awesome though. I wonder if I can get those in MAME. I need to finish my arcade controller...
