That's not the only piece of arrogance regarding MW2. They hiked the price with Kotick saying he'd like to raise it even more.

Why not?  It's has the highest pre-orders I even seen--there's 340 copies reserved just from one Local Gamestop which beat out the last record holder which was Halo 3.  If people are WILLING to pay then more power to Activision--me personally--I'll rent it and buy it when it hits greatest hits price.

Finally, Kotick talked about focusing his company on "profit and nothing else"; instilling a culture of "thrift" by employing staff that will "take all the fun out of making videogames".

For Kotick, an atmosphere of "scepticism, pessimism and fear" represents "mission accomplished".

Well, now, to add to the air around the game, Microsoft is releasing a special 360 with a 250GB HDD and two wireless controllers. Call me a consumer whore but I would love to have that.

Be prepared to shell out $399 US Dollars!!
But on the bright side, it might come packaged with the night vision goggles.

I think Kotick's words were taken completely out of context. He's saying what would happen if they focused on profit and nothing else.

No, I don't think so. I've seen him quoted slightly differently in another place and it's clear that he was talking in part about changes that have already taken place.

Hate on Activision and Bobby Kotick; don't hate on Infinity Ward.  They just make an amazing FPS; they have little to no input on how their game is packaged or marketed.  That's all Activision.

I can continue to hate on their aversion to working on Nintendo platforms themselves. I have yet to see a solid reason (such as we dont want to!) why they haven't.

Okay, this may sound far-fetched, but is there a photo of Bobby Kotick and Jack Thompson together? I've just come up with a theory that Bobby Kotick is Jack Thompson in disguise trying to destroy the video game industry from the inside. It's the most logical explanation I can think of for the things he's saying.

I just dropped $50 on a pre-order today. That extra $100 gets you a lot over the Elite.

http://games.on.net/article/7188/Modern_Warfare_2_shock_No_servers_or_mods_for_PC_version

Basically the PC version of MW2 will be a console port with shitty matchmaking and no mods.  Which means wonderful improvements like $15 map packs, no custom rotations, no server-based community, higher ping, waiting forever for a match, more dropped connections, and worst of all no multiplayer at all once IW says so since no independent servers will be around to keep it alive.  Look how long that sentence was! Disgraceful.

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Irrelevance, PC gaming! It's been waiting for you for quite some time now, especially with all the pirating on that platform.

*says that knowing full well that StarCraft 2 and Command & Conquer 4 are still on his docket of interesting PC games, and he really wants a PC that can run the upcoming Mechwarrior game.*

I can't blame Activision and IW wanting more control over the PC version's multiplayer. It sucks for those used to running and using user-run dedicated servers though. Also, Battle.Net seems to do okay with allowing player mods for the games it services. I don't see why that has to go with IWnet. Oh wait, Activision would rather charge you for those maps and mods.

Anyway, it looks like that terrorist attack at an airport that was teased in the teaser, E3, and Infamy trailers will be a fully player controllable sequence (as an undercover CIA operative). This is a surprise as I thought it would be another cut scene like The Coup.

"Mechwarrior game"  Saddly you saw that trailer for the offical MW5 which is now on the backburner.

Freaking sucks, I wet my pants for nothing just like I did with Beyond Good and Evil 2.  Should be a law against showing teaser trailers and not delievering.

Yeah, but Starcraft and Diablo aren't twitch-based action shooters. No dedicated servers is a terrible idea, as consoles have been proving handily for quite some time now. (I'm looking at you, Gears of War)

Considering how fast Starcraft can be played and how some micromanaging maneuvers are impossible with internet lag, I don't think there is too much of a difference in the need of a good connection between Starcraft and a FPS. Then again, maybe all those APM junkies are on IC Cup or something.

RTSes are P2P anyway and cannot really use dedicated servers (or at least don't benefit from it because the workload of the server and client don't differ).

$301million dollars worth of MW2 in 1 day.

The reason for this here is because, even though the RRP is £54.99, retailers and supermarkets went on a massive price war. It was available for £20 in some places.
