Modern Warfare 2: Activision is full of itself
« on: August 23, 2009, 03:39:55 AM »
The amount of arrogance Activision is spewing over MW2 is ridiculous. First they raise the price and brag about how they want to raise it even higher, now they're claiming it'll be the best selling game ever. If they're serious about that I'll expect a landfill because there's just no way they're going to sell more than 47 million copies (the current record) when the userbase is 50 million HD consoles (minus overlap) and the PC market. Hell, even 20 million looks questionable.

They claimed that it was gonna be the best selling game ever before they said they wanted to raise the price higher. But without a Wii & DS version, it won't even come close to the best selling game this generation, unless MW2 is gonna become a subtitled franchise(kinda like SFII)

If Activision thinks they're going to outsell Wii Sports they're sadly mistaken.

Activision's the biggest 3rd party company this generation and they know it, so it's not surprising in the least that they're more than a little arrogant right now.
There was a Signature here. It's gone now.

No core market exit plan, they'll get swallowed by the implosion.

The way how Activision have evolved into this arrogant blatantly-money-grabbing monster from last generation is amazing.

They might as well say "We're going to make lots of money because you will give it to us! COMPLY".

Best selling game ever Activision?  lulz.  The reason people went nuts for Modern Warfare was it looked completely different than the 30 million WW2 shooters before it.  MW2 looks like more of the same now.  Simply history repeating itself.

MW2 isn't even going to be the best-selling game of the year, let alone all time. It does have a decent shot at being the best selling game of 2009 that doesn't have the word Wii in the title, but I'd still probably give the edge to Beatles Rock Band. Probably at least one of those two will be in the overall top 5.

You can't compare any game's sales to Wii Sports. As far as best selling 3rd party game - quite possible. It'll do better than Beatles Rock Band - here's an example, I'm going to get MW2, and not the Beatles.

Actually, Blur will outsell them both.   I'm picking that up instead of Beatles RB or MW2.

I'm just saying Beatles Rock Band caters to a very, very specific audience, MW2 has much broader appeal. I'm a Rock Band/Guitar Hero whore myself, I just don't really like the Beatles that much.

Where did you grow up?  I'm the only one I've ever met who likes the Beatles but isn't crazy over them.  The game will definitely sell very well, but I don't see too many 18 and under customers going for it.

I don't see too many in the younger than 30 crowd buying it, unless they were buying it for someone older than 30, like a parent or something.

"Now, would you kindly buy our overhyped, overpriced game?"

Actually, it hurts to say this, but I kind of want the "Prestige" Edition. Those NVG's will come in handy for me. Up in the winter in Alaska, it gets pitch black. I often get up in the middle of the night to pee, and there are two problems:

1) I might trip over one of two dogs; and
2) Turning on the light in the 'loo is like blinding myself; so

NVG's could help me navigate my way to the toilet in the black of night. No, I'm not kidding.
This would be my PSN Trophy Card, but I guess I can't post HTML in my Signature. I'm the pixel spaceship, and I have nine Gold trophies.

Just get a catheter, attach the drainage bag to your sweat pants and be done with it.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

I hear they are likely Fisher Price quality, only not as durable.
