Street Fighter IV
« on: February 12, 2009, 11:29:51 AM »
I'm surprised there isn't already an SFIV thread.

Anyways, I've got this pre-ordered via Goozex, should be shipping to me next Tuesday.

Really looking forward to it, and I haven't been any good at a SF game since SF2 Turbo.

I have mine pre-ordered too. I can't wait to start ripping into it. I'm really excited about the revival of my favorite fighting game series.

DrewMg, Just curious, who are your characters you look forward to play as, and what do you think of the 4 new characters?

Honestly, I haven't been following the coverage, so I haven't even seen a full roster yet.

Ken is my go-to character, but I'm also partial to Chun-Li & M. Bison.

There's a trainer in the game that I plan on spending some time in, because things got very complicated somewhere around SF Alpha, and I was never able to keep up.

Yeah, I can't lose with Ken. I also really like to use Cammy in most games. I am looking forward to that trainer. Alpha was a weird game, cause I feel that while it was fun, a lot of the mechanics(juggling and timing) made it a bit broken.

This game looks like it will be more balanced. Characters who I considered chumps before have gotten better. So far, I don't have one nitpick about what I have seen or played..which is very rare for me.  :P

I can actually pull off hadokens with ease on the standard 360 controller, though I plan on getting that 6 button MadCatz one.

I don't know if I'll invest in a new controller for the game or not.  Probably not right away.

I'm very capable of losing, even with Ken.

Looking forward to it, definitely.

How are the female characters and balance in the game.

I go straight for them.  I love Cammy and Sakari.  I used to love Chun-Li from Super Street Fighter 2, but didn't like her Alpha series.

She was pretty playable in Street Fighter 3.  Which are there the characters from Street Fighter 3 in the game?

Yup, it's 6 buttons that you can map. As for the balance, I only played with Ken, Ryu, Cammy, and Chun-Li. Chun-Li's moves have shortened lag time, so enemies can't punish you as much...she is weaker though.

As for Cammy, many of her moves push her away from the enemy when blocked and a few moves have invincibility for a brief time so she won't get punished. Like for example if someone blocks your Cannon Spike, you have a little period when you come back down that you can't be touched...but that could be a bad thing.

Also, Cammy has been returned to a "power" character, her moves do a lot of damage. She got stronger while Chun-Li got weaker punches. :-\

I'm about to explode with anticipation for this game.  Day one purchase and I'm getting the TE Arcade Stick to boot.  Are you guys going with the PS3 or 360 version?  I'm getting it on the 360 and my gamertag is:

How much is that TE stick going to cost?  I saw a video where the guy from MadCatz demoed all the features, and it looks really, really slick.

I'm partial to pads rather than sticks, so I pre-ordered the SF IV FightPad from MadCatz on Amazon yesterday.

I'm getting the 360 version, and my gamertag is PlusDrew.

Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

This is probably a stupid question, but the SFIV FightPad works with non-fighting games, right? It seems like it should but all the ads and preview/reviews I've read only talk about fighting games. That D-Pad would be perfect for some of my old arcade game XBLA ports and I can't justify the $40 price tag without knowing for sure.

I'm sure it works fine.  I've read that there's even a switch for the d-pad to emulate the analog stick, so you can navigate menus that weren't made with the d-pad in mind.

I'm waiting for the PC release. I already have my wireless gamepads and an HDMI cable that stretches into the living room. :P

It's really too bad that this probably won't be hitting the Wii.

You guys are gonna have to tell me how it is. I could never get into SFII or its endless iterations because I'm more of a Soul Calibur kind of guy. There's a precision required by 2D fighters that I suck at. But this one looks really cool, and the tutorials give me hope that even I can learn the ropes.

And the arcade feel of the online mode makes me salivate...

The community at Shoryuken.com started a Mentor/Student thread which allows people to volunteer to help "newbies" learn the ropes of SF4.  I'd be more than willing to help out anyone here learn the game.  I'm not a tourney level player, but I have been playing the game since it released, so that should count for something.  :)

Most USB controllers can be used on PS3, the best advice is to try it out.
